Minecraft's Chase The Skies Update Launches Tomorrow
Minecraft's newest update is dropping tomorrow, bringing a slew of new features and visual upgrades. Minecraft fans should be stoked to hear about the latest update! Minecraft's newest Chase the Skies update is dropping tomorrow on PC, consoles, and mobile, bringing a slew of new features. In addition to the new update, the new Vibrant Visuals is also releasing tomorrow—offering its first official visual boost. Mojang has been cooking up the upcoming visual overhaul in the labs for a while. They also dropped a new video showcasing the Chase the Skies features and Vibrant Visuals improvements. The Chase the Skies update was originally announced earlier this year in March. One of the new standout features that players will enjoy is getting a pet ghast. First up, players will be able to obtain their first flying mount by locating a 'dried ghast' block in the Nether. You'll be able to craft one too, and per the latest Minecraft blog post, all you'll need is 'ghast tears and a soul sand block.' Once you have your block, leave it in water to see it transform into your pet Ghastling. Other new features include a player location bar to help keep an eye on where other players are, even showing their elevation level. It will be seen in the same place as the XP bar. The developers also added leads, so players can leash mobs together, as well as mounts or even boats together, and saddles. This does not allow players to leash each other to each other though! Saddles are now craftable with 3 leather and 1 iron ingot at a crafting table. Also, shears can now release specific leads from a knot of leads, keeping the rest of the knot intact. The Vibrant Visuals update is the first big graphical overhaul for Minecraft since the cancelled Super Duper Graphics Pack was announced. Mojang's latest blog post outlined: 'Vibrant Visuals is initially only releasing on compatible Minecraft: Bedrock Edition devices. This is just the first step, and we plan to bring Vibrant Visuals to Minecraft: Java Edition in the future. For those who like to dive into Marketplace content, please be aware that Marketplace Add-Ons, Skins, and Persona items will work with Vibrant Visuals. However, Worlds and Texture Packs won't be compatible with the new mode at the time of launch.' Another unfortunate drawback with turning on Vibrant Visuals is that splitscreen multiplayer is not supported. The blog noted that the game 'will switch to Fancy or Simple rendering if multiple players are joined locally. ' The visual improvement update allows players to experience a new side to Minecraft with rebalanced light and shadow enhancements. This means seeing water reflections, shaded forests, fog drifts, and waterfalls glimmering from the beautiful sun's rays. So far, the supported devices for these two updates include Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC.

Minecraft is finally getting its long-awaited visual update
Minecraft gets its next update on June 17, bringing the Chase the Skies update and the Vibrant Visuals overhaul to all Bedrock players. Minecraft fans have requested a visual update for years, and while some rumors suggested one might arrive on the Xbox One, it never came to fruition. Vibrant Visuals is more than just a graphical update. It overhauls lighting, allowing sunlight to stream through the leaves of trees and reflect off the water's surface. The update gives each biome a distinct atmosphere, and it also makes enemies that much more intimidating. Spiders were creepy enough without their eyes glowing in the dark. It's important to note that Vibrant Visuals doesn't change how the game functions, however; it's strictly cosmetic, even if it does create a more tense atmosphere in certain areas. Recommended Videos Unfortunately, Vibrant Visuals only applies to Bedrock players. Anyone playing Minecraft Java will have to wait, but at least you'll still get access to the Chase the Skies update. Chase the Skies introduces craftable saddles, something that has been sorely missing from the game. Until now, the only way to obtain saddles was through loot chests in temples and mineshafts. That made faster travel options limited until players stumbled across one. That said, the most exciting part of the update is the Happy Ghast. Ghasts are mobs that inhabit the Nether and fling fireballs at you, often when you least expect it. With Chase the Skies, players can find dehydrated ghasts that can then be rehydrated in the overworld, saddled, and used as flying transport. Chase the Skies brings loads of new features and gameplay changes that make Minecraft even more approachable, like easier-to-craft leads and the ability to lease multiple entities together at once. You'll now be able to create your own caravan of llamas, just like the wandering traders.

Minecraft Is Getting A Major Visual Upgrade, Flying Mounts, And My Favorite Quality Of Life Feature In Years
2025 is going to be a neat year for Minecraft. Not only is the survival crafting game moving to more frequent feature drops, it's also getting flying mounts and a big boost to its more than decade-old graphics. Revealed during a special Minecraft Live, Vibrant Visuals will make every pixelated world full of new life and possibilities thanks to the power of better lighting and reflections. The additions to Mojang's 3D sandbox that first officially debuted back in 2011 were on display at March 2025's edition of Minecraft Live, a presentation that will now take place two times a year to match the faster cadence of smaller but more impactful feature drops arriving alongside them. The first of these is Vibrant Visuals, a visual overhaul coming the the Bedrock edition of Minecraft this year on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The developers say the update adds 'thousands of individually crafted elements while preserving what makes Minecraft unique.' Alongside the tweaked appearance, volumetric lighting is the other key feature of Vibrant Visuals. Instead of the world looking flat, the new lighting will bring more depth and also improve reflections. Water shimmers and cast shadows look more stark. It all makes Minecraft look a lot more appealing, especially at sunset. Happy Ghasts are another big deal. They'll be able to carry small groups of players through the world, making survival mode more accessible. Players will find dried ghasts in the netherworld, bring them back to the overworld, re-hydrate them, and then poof: a cute, cloud-like chariot awaits. My kids are going to love it, until they start fighting over them. What they won't be fighting over is the new Player Locator bar that Mojang also briefly touched on during the event. Announced earlier this month, the new UI feature will make it easier for players to find one another across the map. No more looking around for striking landscape features and going, 'I'm kinda, sorta, maybe 100 yards Northeast of the oak tree by the beach.' Instead, players will appear as color-coded blips on a horizontal bar near the bottom of the screen. This one is gonna save me a ton of time. As with all of the other features, there no specific release date for this, but all of them should be coming in the next few months. Maybe by then we'll also hear about any upgrades coming to a Switch 2 version of Minecraft. The Minecraft Movie is also out April 4, just two days after the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct. . Minecraft Live March 2025: Minecraft Gets an Overhaul with Vibrant Visuals & We Went Hands-On
At today's Minecraft Live, Mojang Studios announced that Minecraft will be getting a major graphics mode update called Vibrant Visuals. Have you ever wondered what it would look like to see a Minecraft world in high resolution? Mojang Studios looked at the 15-year-old game and thought that it could use an update, but they were faced with an important question: How do you upgrade Minecraft without losing what makes it 'Minecrafty.' I was able to visit Mojang in Stockholm, Sweden, to go hands-on with the new Minecraft flying mount and Vibrant Visuals, and I have to say, Vibrant Visuals changes the landscape of Minecraft without the need for mods or shaders. First thing first, this isn't a mandatory graphic upgrade for Minecraft players. Vibrant Visuals will eventually be made available for all platforms with a simple toggle in your game's menu. It was important to the team at Mojang Studios to make Minecraft and the new Vibrant Visuals mode available to as many people as possible without alienating their current player base. The new mode will be completely optional, and you can turn it off at any time. I was able to speak to the team at Mojang Studios, who worked on Vibrant Visuals directly. Vibrant Visuals Producer Dejan Dimic described the update for players who haven't seen it yet, 'It's a visual refresh for the core Minecraft game. So, it is our first step in our vision of what a modern look and feel of the game could look like. We've tried to balance modern rendering technologies with staying true to Minecraft and the art style. So, creating this cool balance while also trying to enable this to as many, many players as possible.' What is exciting, especially for a console player like myself, is that this will bring a brand-new visual style to the Bedrock Edition. That means those who don't have access to shaders or mods will be able to do this for the first time. Senior Product Manager on Vibrant Visuals Maddie Psenka noted that this is something players really seem to want, 'We want to get it out to as many players as possible. Right now, especially on consoles, it's hard to mod and update your game. A lot of players like to play with visual mods, and we see it in the community a lot, so doing this will allow us to bring it easily to those players. It'll be a toggle in the menu so players will be able to access Vibrant Visuals.' She went on to explain how easy it will be to use, too, 'This is a built-in new graphics mode, so it'll include a bunch of new textures that work with this new mode to highlight a lot of the interesting physical properties of blocks and items and entities in the game. So there's no need to sideload anything or download anything. It'll just be on the simple toggle.' One thing that the Vibrant Visuals team was adamant about was that Minecraft's new mode was available to as many people as possible. Psenka ensured us that it would be across multiple platforms, thanks to being available on Minecraft's Bedrock edition, 'We want it to be available to as many devices as possible. We don't have a full spec for devices yet, but we are targeting mobile devices, consoles and PC, of course, so we want to make it as available to as many players as possible.' During my playthrough, I was able to check out Vibrant Visuals on a couple of different maps at varying times of day. The team had set up a simple one-button toggle so I could turn Minecraft's Vibrant Visuals on and off, really amplifying the subtle yet somehow significant graphic differences. It's odd how little, yet how much, Vibrant Visuals changes things. Occasionally, I would leave it on or off and be unsure what mode I was in, only to press the toggle and see just how obvious it was. During sunrise, I was able to spot my pixelated shadow cast over the ladder I was climbing. Mobs cast shadows now, too, and it wasn't anything I had ever noticed was missing until I saw it turned off. Reflections on the water are absolutely beautiful, but still keep that pixelated style Minecraft is known for. Underwater is also more realistic. Now, water feels murky and hard to spot creatures clearly, where as before, it was like it wasn't there at all. Of course, Vibrant Visuals wouldn't be going live without testing, and Art Director Jasper Boerstra gave us some insight on what players have said so far, and it sort of reiterates what I saw, too, 'I felt like we got a lot of validation of our goals. They were like, 'Oh, it's not too overpowering,' 'Oh, it still looks so much like Minecraft.' You know, all of these kind of things that we set out to do. They were reacting that way. They were like, 'Wow, this just looks like Minecraft, but enhanced,' that stuff. So, I'm very, very confident that players will like this.' Walking away from my visit to Sweden, I couldn't help but just feel good about what Mojang Studios is creating. This team has been working on Vibrant Visuals for ages, but when asked what they thought the ratio would be for users who toggle it on versus 'Vanilla Minecraft' or if it would be a letdown if everyone didn't swap over, the consensus was the same. 'We want people to experience Minecraft the way they want to,' said Executive Producer Ingela Garneji. I had one last question for the Minecraft Vibrant Visuals team, 'What is your favourite part of Vibrant Visuals?' I thought I knew the answer because, for me, it is the absolutely stunning reflections on the water. However, the team fought for who would get to say Pixelated Shadows. 'I have to explain why I say Pixelated Shadows, but it's because it's so Minecraft. I mean, shadows in Minecraft, of course they're pixelated!' said Garneji. Vibrant Visuals is really something you have to toggle on in Minecraft to truly understand what it is. High-rez Minecraft is the best way I can't describe it, but it still holds onto its boxy, pixelated style. Though I don't have an exact date yet, Minecraft's Vibrant Visuals mode will first release on the Bedrock Edition, with plans to bring it to the Java Edition in the future. With the A Minecraft Movie releasing soon, we are sure to talk more about Minecraft soon!
