Cameroonian talent Christian Kofane passes Bayer Leverkusen medical
Sport Bild reports that 18-year-old Cameroonian striker Christian Kofane has passed his Bayer 04 Leverkusen medical. One of the Bundesliga outfit's summer transfer targets is thus set to be unveiled shortly. The teenage talent will sign five-year-contract, per the tabloid. Whereas previous reports suggested that Kofane will be immediately be loaned back out to his Spanish Segunda division club, new developments in newly appointed head coach Erik ten Hag's squad planning render it likelier that the player will remain in Germany. Advertisement The recent decision to retain the services of Czech striker Patrik Schick and shop Nigerian forward Victor Boniface for a sale leaves room for Kofane in the squad. A loan deal could nevertheless still be in the cards given that Kofane doesn't have a great deal of experience at a higher level. Germany's red company team appear set to acquire Kofane via a €5m release clause in his current contract. Leverkusen fended off several other suitors for the teenage prospect's services. Boniface was thought to be moving to Saudi in January before his move collapsed. Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Bayer Leverkusen could part ways with the forward if a good proposal arrives. Arsenal could make a move for Boniface as an alternative option to the likes of Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko.

Bild reports that Patrik Schick is set to stay at Bayer Leverkusen this summer, which opens the door for a Victor Boniface departure. New Leverkusen head coach Erik ten Hag has decided to make Schick his number one striker next season and has vetoed any departure this summer. The 29-year-old was unhappy with his playing time at the backend of last season and was looking to leave this summer, with Bayern Munich interested. Advertisement Now, Schick will be Leverkusen's main striker, and his backup will be Christian Kofane, who is set to join from Spanish side Albacete for €5m. The Czechia international scored 21 goals this season, five behind top scorer Harry Kane, despite Schick only scoring one penalty the whole season, on the final day of the season against Mainz. The 29-year-old had a strong partnership with Florian Wirtz last season, with the pair combining a total of eight times, the most in the league. This opens the door for the departure of Victor Boniface in the summer. The 24-year-old was close to leaving in the winter for Saudi Arabia, but the deal collapsed.
