Hotel del Coronado puts finishing touches on $550 million restoration
The Hotel del Coronado has wrapped up a refresh of its historic Victorian building, which marks the completion of the San Diego-area resort's $550 million, multiyear restoration. The Victorian building, which was built in 1888 and is the centerpiece of the National Historic Landmark property, has undergone a complete restoration of its front porch, lobby, main entry and guest accommodations. According to the hotel, the project "prioritized historical accuracy." The renovated Victorian Crown Room at Hotel del Coronado. Two new dining venues have been added to the Victorian building. They include the 156-seat Nobu Del Coronado, which is also home to an eight-seat sushi bar and the 12-seat Pagoda Bar, as well as the Veranda restaurant, which draws inspiration from the hotel's original 1,800-foot wraparound veranda and showcases locally sourced California ingredients. The building's event spaces have similarly received an update, with its Crown Room, Coronet Room and Ocean Ballroom getting updated lighting and sound systems. Additionally, the Ocean Ballroom restoration revealed a newly discovered and preserved 1888 fresco, while original wood floors and historic finishes have been rehabilitated across all three venues. Additionally, the property's central garden courtyard has been returned to its original design, complete with historic walkways and pergolas. A bronze fountain featuring a reproduction of a 19th-century statue has been reinstalled, recreating a feature that was removed from the space in 1912.
