Noida razes illegal shops to revive stalled road project after SC nod
Noida: Noida Authority has cleared the path for a long-stalled road link between Sectors 46/47 and Sectors 99/100 by demolishing illegal shops that had encroached on govt land in Hajipur village. The move comes after the Supreme Court recently upheld the Authority's claim to the disputed land, dismissing a decades-old legal challenge. Acting on the directions of its chief executive officer, the Authority's civil department, along with local police, carried out an anti-encroachment drive near the Voda Mahadev temple. Officials said that nearly 200 metres of the proposed road had been blocked by 15 to 20 shops. The Allahabad High Court dismissed the plea in Jan 2021, noting that the land parcel was already vested with the govt. After the petitioner's death, his legal heirs moved the Supreme Court, which dismissed the appeal on Nov 21, 2024. With legal and physical obstacles now removed, construction of the remaining stretch is expected to begin shortly. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Featuring Brigade Ebony™ at Brigade Showcase 2025 | Aug 8–10, Sheraton Grand, Brigade Gateway Brigade Group Learn More Undo The new road will offer direct access from sectors 46 and 47 to sectors 99 and 98, easing traffic on the existing route via sectors 100, 101, Hajipur and Sector 104. Commuters from Noida City Centre, sectors 12, 22 and nearby areas heading toward NRI Road (Sectors 99-100) are also set to benefit. Around 100 officials from the Authority, led by deputy general manager Vijay Kumar Rawal, oversaw the demolition. Backed by a large police presence, workers used five earthmovers to raze shops, permanent structures, and shanties. Debris removal is likely to continue until Saturday.

Walkways to lights, Noida's Transport Nagar Chowk set for a facelift
Noida: The Authority has sanctioned a Rs 4-crore beautification project for Transport Nagar Chowk in Sector 67, following the success of its first model road from Shashi Chowk to Noida City Centre. The space has been designed by Orionn Architects. The project will transform a 500-metre stretch along DS Road into a safe, accessible, and visually appealing public space. It will feature tree-lined pedestrian walkways, landscaped greenery, decorative lighting, sculptures, benches, bollards, and ramps for differently-abled access. A proper drainage system will be installed within the green belt, and kiosks will be set up near the roundabout. Rainwater harvesting will also be incorporated to divert water toward the ground rather than into sewage drains. She added that the design focuses on universal accessibility, featuring ramps, tactile flooring for the visually impaired, and smart road infrastructure such as energy-efficient lights and safe pedestrian crossings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo This initiative follows the Authority's pilot project, also designed by Orionn, where a 1.2km stretch from Shashi Chowk near Golf Course metro station to Noida City Centre was revamped into a model road. That project, costing Rs 4 crore, included walkways, sculptures, benches, smart poles with panic buttons, mobile charging points, bus bays, and WiFi zones. It drew inspiration from global cities like Singapore, London, and New York. Building on the positive response to the model road, the Authority decided to replicate the concept in other parts of the city, starting with Sector 67. "A tender was floated, and many companies have submitted their bids. The Authority is now in the process of finalising the agency that will be engaged in the project," said DGM (civil) Vijay Kumar Rawal, adding that this is the latest step in Noida Authority's ongoing efforts to make its public spaces greener, safer, and more accessible.
