Kurnool police urge students to install Shakthi App

The Kurnool district police have been conducting intensive and sustained awareness campaigns on Shakthi App and WhatsApp number, introduced for the safety of women, at schools and other places. They are also sensitising students about 'Good Touch, Bad Touch'. Speaking about the campaigns, Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel on Thursday said that Shakthi Teams have been interacting and encouraging the students to download and register on the App for their safety and protection. 'There is no need of going to a police station in times of emergency. By downloading the App, one can Dial 112 or press SOS button to lodge a complaint and police will respond promptly,' he said. Women and girls should also save Shakthi WhatsApp number 7993485111 and lodge a complaint in dire situations, he said. 'Once a message is sent or call made to the Shakthi WhatsApp number, the command control room will be alerted and the nearest Shakthi Teams will respond to the complaint. The WhatsApp number will work round-the-clock,' he added. Shakthi Teams visiting educational institutions are creating awareness on Dial 112, 181, 1098 and 1930 numbers and also the bad impact of social media, the need to concentrate on academics, how to respond to eve-teasing, traffic rules, cyber crimes and crimes against women and children, the SP said.

Police officials asked to curb drug menace

Kurnool Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Koya Praveen asked the police officials to curb the drug menace in the district. Mr. Praveen, along with Kurnool Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patel released the 'Drugs Vaddu Bro' poster and attended the half-yearly crime review meeting, here on Thursday. Addressing the police officials, the DIG said that Kurnool has remained peaceful post-bifurcation of the district. He asked the police officials to counsel the people in village to leave out old rivalries so that the district remains peaceful. The DIG asked officials to give priority to visible policing and also to intensify surveillance through drone cameras to keep a tab on alcohol consumption in open places and other law and order problems. Meanwhile, Mr. Vikrant Patel asked the officials to use technology to prevent crime and invoke PD Act, bind over anti-social elements and counsel rowdy-sheeters wherever and whenever necessary. The SP also wanted immediate recovery of stolen properties and the conduct of trial in cases pending in courts. While releasing the posters, the DIG and SP gave a call to the general public to inform about illegal transportation, sale or consumption of drugs to tollfree number 1972.

Police have been conducting Palle Nidra in villages to boost confidence among the people and to spread awareness among the people about cybercrimes and the ill-effects of drugs in Kurnool and Nandyal districts. On the instructions of Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel, police officials stayed overnight in six problematic villages as part of the programme. The personnel interacted with the villagers, learnt about their problems and counselled them. The villagers were also made aware of cybercrimes. The personnel told them not to click on unknown links, not to reveal OTPs to others and be wary of calls from unknown individuals. The police also publicised the helpline number 1930 to report cybercrime. The personnel also appealed to the villagers to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers. In Nandyal, Palle Nidra was held in Chintalayapalle village in Kolimigundla mandal on Friday night. The Kolimigundla police interacted with the villagers and spread awareness on cybercrimes and road safety and also asked women to download Shakti App for their safety.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ake Ravikrishna, who is the head of Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), asserted that Kappatralla in Devanakonda mandal of Kurnool district would be the first village in the State to be a drug-free. Mr. Ravikrishna, along with Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patel, participated in the Mega Teachers-Parents Meet (PTM) 2.0 held in the Zilla Parishad school in Kappatralla on Thursday. Mr. Ravikrishna had adopted Kappatralla and has been taking up several initiatives for the development of the village that was once a hotbed of factionalism. The IG and SP released 'Drugs Vaddu Bro' (Say No to Drugs Brother) posters intended to create awareness on the ill-effects of drugs among students and youth. Posters on how students resort to crime under the influence of drugs and others were also released on the occasion. Mr. Ravikrishna said that the meeting was held considering the future of students and children. 'Youth should focus on education and not fall prey to drugs. They should inculcate the habit of reading books,' he said. He added that a society free of drugs should be the goal and every individual must join hands to achieve it. Meanwhile, Mr. Vikrant Patel urged the students and villagers to give information about illegal transportation, sale or cultivation of ganja and drugs on the tollfree number 1972. He said that the identity of the informant would be kept a secret. The SP also handed over cash incentives to students who secured first, second and third rank respectively in Class IX and X examinations. Later, the IG and SP had lunch with the students of the school. Before the meeting, Mr. Ravikrishna had distributed fruit-bearing plants to farmers in the mandal, which were provided by Say Trees and Nava Yuvatha Association. He also went around the fruit gardens in the village, distributed agriculture tools to the farmers, and inaugurated a biogas plant in the village.

Kurnool police conducts ‘Operation Campus Safe Zone'

The Kurnool Police on Tuesday conducted 'Operation Campus Safe Zone' to enforce the ban on sale of tobacco products within a radius of 100 yards of educational institutions. Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel said that sale of cigarette and any tobacco related products is banned within 100 yards of schools, colleges and other educational institutions. The police officials conducted searches at tea stalls, kirana (general) shops and other stores near the institutions for cigarettes, khaini or gutkha. The shopkeepers were made aware of the ban and warned against any sale of such products. Some shopkeepers who were found selling these products were penalised under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003. The shopkeepers were asked not to sell such products considering the ill-effects of tobacco and related products on youngsters. Meanwhile, the police also conducted searches at hotels on late Monday night and enquired about suspicious people who have checked into the hotel. Police asked the hotel managements to examine the details of those who check-in and also install CCTVs in the premises.
