Beiersdorf reports moderate growth amid market challenges
German consumer goods maker Beiersdorf on Wednesday reported a moderate rise in sales in the first half of 2025, despite slower market growth. The company's half-year sales rose 2.1% organically to 5.19 billion euros (6.01 billion dollars) from 5.18 billion a year earlier. It had cut its organic sales growth outlook for 2025 late on Tuesday due to the difficult market conditions. "The global skincare market experienced slower growth than expected, particularly in the second quarter and into July 2025," CEO Vincent Warnery said in a statement. The Hamburg-based firm lowered its outlook for organic sales growth to 3%, from a previous target of 4%-6%, with 3%-4% growth expected in the consumer segment from a previous target of 4%-6%. The group's consumer segment now expects EBIT margin growth of 20 basis points (bps) against the previous year, down from a previous target of a 50 bps rise. The group recorded a 0.4% decline in organic sales growth in Europe in the second quarter of this year. Consumer sentiment in its biggest market has suffered in recent months. Beiersdorf said in its half-year report that, as of July, there was no visible improvement in the global skin care market, but it expects an overall improvement in the second half of the year.

Nivea-maker Beiersdorf posts marginal first-quarter sales beat
April 15 (Reuters) - German consumer goods maker Beiersdorf ( opens new tab, the first European large-cap global health and personal care company to report first-quarter results, on Tuesday posted group sales marginally ahead of market expectations. Analysts at Bernstein said the results were "surprisingly robust," as the company's sales rose 3.6% organically to 2.69 billion euros ($3.05 billion), compared to analysts' expectations of 2.65 billion euros as per data compiled by LSEG. Sales of its derma division brands jumped 11.4%, led by emerging markets and North America. Of the group's products sold in the U.S., 65% are made outside the country, primarily in Mexico, which CEO Vincent Warnery in a call stressed was covered by free trade agreements, meaning only a small part of European imports would be subject to tariffs. Asked whether the company might consider moving more production to the U.S., finance chief Astrid Hermann said it was difficult to make decisions about production in an uncertain environment. "In the very short term, to make changes there, I don't think makes sense," Hermann said. Sales of Nivea, the company's flagship skin and body care brand, grew 2.5% organically, against a tough basis for comparison due to high sales in the first quarter of 2024 and the company's measures to clean up its portfolio in China. On the other hand, the company reported a 17.5% drop in sales of luxury brand La Prairie, due to a difficult market environment in China. Speaking about consumer sentiment in China, Warnery said he saw "no big evolution of the consumer feeling, which means it's not better, but it's not worse." ($1 = 0.8807 euros)

Beiersdorf expects organic growth to slow in 2025
(Reuters) - Nivea maker Beiersdorf on Thursday said it expected organic growth to slow in the current year, citing weaker demand in the global skin care market. Beauty firms are reeling from a growth slowdown from the second half of 2024 and into the new year, exacerbated by soft demand in key market China and inventory reductions at travel retailers and in the U.S. Competitors, such as French L'Oreal and U.S.-based rival Coty posted weaker-than-expected quarterly sales in their latest reports. The German company expects organic sales to grow between 4% and 6% in 2025, down from a 6.5% rise to 9.9 billion euros ($10.37 billion) it reported for the previous year. The company had forecast organic sales growth of between 6% to 8% in 2024. Beiersdorf core skincare brands, such as Nivea and Eucerin remained resilient but weakness in Chinese demand for luxury products and shifting consumer preferences in the region have weighed on the company's luxury brand revenue. While sales at its Nivea brand and skincare business increased 9.0% and 10.6% respectively in the past year, its premium brand La Prairie recorded a 6.2% drop in sales. The company also said it extended the contract of its CEO Vincent Warnery until the end of 2030. ($1 = 0.9551 euros) Sign in to access your portfolio
