Collectors exhort people to adopt lifestyle sans plastic
Plantation drives were conducted on Thursday to mark the World Environment Day celebrations across Anantapur, Nandyal, Kurnool, and Chittoor districts. The District Collectors and officials planted saplings with a call to the people to plant more trees and avoid usage of plastic. In Anantapur district, the drive was led by District Collector Dr Vinod Kumar V., Raptadu MLA Paritala Sunitha and others at Nagaravanam in Pampanuru village of Atmakuru mandal. At the occasion, the Collector and MLA urged the people to plant saplings in a big way and urged them to adopt a lifestyle sans plastic. Mr. Kumar said the ban on single use plastic would also be implemented in rural areas of the district and steps would be taken to control usage of plastic. The Collector asked the officials to not give bouquets at government functions but instead give saplings. He also said that officials should stop using plastic water bottles during meetings and bring their own steel water bottles. In Nandyal district, Collector Rajakumari Gania said an action plan has been drawn to plant four lakh saplings across the district and the focus was to protect the planted saplings. She said efforts are being made to take up avenue, block and bund plantation and saplings are available at forest and NREGA nurseries in the district. Ms. Gania said that burning plastic along with waste releases harmful chemicals into the air leading to health issues and urged the people to avoid usage of plastic. She was speaking at the plantation drive held at Municipal High School in Nandyal town along with Minister for Minority Welfare N. Md. Farooq. In Kurnool, a plantation drive was taken up in Nagaravanam at Gargeyapuram on the outskirts of the district. Collector P. Ranjith Basha planted saplings and asked the people to avoid plastic. In Chittoor, plantation drive was taken up in Neeva Nagaravanam on the outskirts of the town in which Chittoor MLA G. Jagan Mohan took part. Saplings were also planted by the Sri Sathya Sai and Nandyal district police.

Accelerate AMRUT 2.0 works in Anantapur: Collector
Anantapur: Collector Dr. Vinod Kumar V., IAS, directed officials to expedite the ongoing works under AMRUT 2.0 during the District Advisory Monitoring Committee (DAMC) meeting held on Tuesday at the Mini Conference Hall of the Anantapur Collectorate. The Collector emphasized the need for swift implementation of projects in Anantapur, Guntakal, and Tadipatri municipalities under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. He instructed Public Health Engineering officials to take a proactive approach to complete works under the Hybrid Annuity Model and to install display boards in line with the Collectorate setup across all municipalities, with designated in-charge officers for supervision. He also urged officials to focus on Yoga Andhra registrations and land surveys, recommending a drive-mode operation with regular monitoring. The meeting was attended by Public Health Executive Engineer Adinarayana, APSPDCL SE Seshadri Shekhar, Urban Development SE Chandrasekhar, Horticulture AD Firoz Khan, Public Health DEs Ketan Kumar Reddy and Jyothi, and several Municipal Commissioners.

Naidu likely to visit Uravakonda soon
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is likely to visit Uravakonda in Anantapur district soon. He would be inaugurating the modernised canals of Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project, officials said. District Collector Vinod Kumar V., Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh and other officials on Monday visited Uravakonda and inspected the extension works from HNSS canal near Uravakonda town till Ragulapadu pump house. The Collector and SP inspected the ongoing works at Uravakonda town, HNSS main canal bridge at Chinnamustur to Lattavaram Bridge, PC Pyapili, and also at Ragulapadu pump house in Vajrakarur mandal. They later inspected the government upper primary high school ground and also Lattavaram village, where the Chief Minister might address the public. The Collector enquired about the progress of works, the number of tanks to which water is being supplied from the canal, and other details. They also visited the proposed place for helipad at Ragulapadu. The NDA government had put focus on the completion of HNSS modernisation works after coming to power. Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, who represents the Uravakonda Assembly constituency, has been constantly reviewing the completion of works and had earlier announced that the works would be completed by June 10.

Anantapur Collector receives award for successful implementation of Swachh Andhra Rural programme
Anantapur Collector Vinod Kumar V. on Thursday received an award for outstanding performance in the successful implementation of Swachh Andhra Rural programme on the occasion of National Panchayat Raj Day-2025. The Collector received the award from Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, and Rural Water Supply Konidela Pawan Kalyan at a function held in Mangalagiri. According to officials, Swacch Andhra programme was taken out in all the panchayats as part of Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus and all the villages were made as ODF Plus model villages. The government announced the award for the Collector on Wednesday.
