Accelerate AMRUT 2.0 works in Anantapur: Collector
The Collector emphasized the need for swift implementation of projects in Anantapur, Guntakal, and Tadipatri municipalities under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. He instructed Public Health Engineering officials to take a proactive approach to complete works under the Hybrid Annuity Model and to install display boards in line with the Collectorate setup across all municipalities, with designated in-charge officers for supervision.
He also urged officials to focus on Yoga Andhra registrations and land surveys, recommending a drive-mode operation with regular monitoring. The meeting was attended by Public Health Executive Engineer Adinarayana, APSPDCL SE Seshadri Shekhar, Urban Development SE Chandrasekhar, Horticulture AD Firoz Khan, Public Health DEs Ketan Kumar Reddy and Jyothi, and several Municipal Commissioners.

Collector urges use of clay idols for eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi
Anantapur: District Collector Dr Vinod Kumar V appealed to citizens to worship eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols and protect the environment during this year's Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations. He made these remarks while unveiling pamphlets promoting eco-friendly festivities at an awareness programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board at the Revenue Bhavan in Anantapur Collectorate on Monday. The Collector emphasised that everyone must work collectively to preserve the sanctity of the festival while ensuring environmental protection. He urged devotees to use clay idols made with natural colours instead of harmful materials. He specifically warned against single-use plastics and emphasised celebrating the festival sustainably. Dr Vinod Kumar stated that Plaster of Paris (POP) idols are banned, as POP contains harmful chemicals that cause severe water pollution during immersion. Instead, idols should be made with clay, natural dyes, cotton, jute, and other biodegradable materials. He also advised reducing or completely avoiding immersion materials that damage lakes and water resources. Highlighting the directives of the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Collector said that idol making and immersion must strictly follow environmental guidelines. He further directed that while granting permissions for Ganesh pandals and installations, departments including Revenue, Municipal Corporation, Panchayat, Fire Services, Electricity, and Police should strictly adhere to the revised guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board. The event was attended by Joint Collector Shiv Narayan Sharma, DRO A Malola, Forest Settlement Officer G Ramakrishna Reddy, Special Deputy Collectors Rammohan, Mallikarjun, Anand, APPCB Environmental Engineer P.V. Kishore Reddy, Agriculture Officer Umamaheswaramma, along with APPCB staff and other district officials.

Belagavi: The historic Fort Lake in Belagavi, is set for a major transformation, thanks to Rs 7.8 crore sanctioned under the Amrut 2.0 scheme. The comprehensive development plan aims not only to beautify the area but also to enhance its ecological value and make it a vibrant recreational space for the public. One of the key features include the installation of a floating trash barrier to prevent waste from entering the lake, a measure expected to substantially reduce pollution and improve water quality. To bolster the lake's green cover, extensive tree planting efforts will be taken up around its perimeter. Recreational amenities for residents and tourists are a central part of the initiative. The project includes the beautification of existing walkways, and installation of new benches and fitness equipment. To make the area more accessible and appealing, especially after sunset, an LED system with new electrical wiring will be installed. The plan also includes information boards and a dedicated play area for children. According to officials from the district administration, the development works will be carried out without disturbing the natural habitats of diverse bird and aquatic species. The goal is to create a safe and beautiful space for morning and evening walks, yoga, and family outings, while preserving the ecosystem.

Have not slept in 7 days: Locals seek relocation amid anti-terror operation in Kulgam
Srinagar: Amidst the ongoing anti-terror operation in Kulgam, which entered its seventh day on Thursday, locals from the Akhal village have called for their relocation from the area, citing severe hardships. The residents claimed they were unable to sleep due to the relentless firing and were now running out of food as well. 'We have been facing severe difficulties for the past seven days. Firing and bombs go on during the night. There is a shortage of ration in our homes now,' Mubarak Khanday, a villager living close to the encounter site, said. Emphasising that the women and children in the area are terrified, Khanday claimed that they have developed 'psychological problems' due to the continuous firing and explosions, he added. Appealing to the government to make arrangements for their relocation, Khanday said, 'We have not slept for seven days. Children are awake, and they cry. There is a shortage of medicine and rations.' He further noted that the nomadic population living in the area have also run out of food grains. 'The Gujjar people called have no ration,' Khanday said. However, locals were grateful to village officials like the numberdar and the chowkidar for taking care of the village. 'The numberdar was giving ration to people from his home, but now he too is facing a shortage,' Khanday mentioned. Sheikh Mehboob, a village official, urged the government to address the ration shortage and provide drinking water in the village. 'We are facing a shortage of water and medicines. We request that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department arrange water for us. While the security forces are doing their job, the ongoing firing is causing problems for the elderly and children,' Mehboob said. He thanked the deputy commissioner and the SSP for making arrangements for an ambulance for the locals. Sheeraza Akhtar, another local, appealed to the Kulgam deputy commissioner to extend help to the villagers. 'We appeal to the deputy commissioner. We are poor and are facing shortages. Please help us as we are facing so many problems. Many people have left and some houses are empty. Please relocate us from here,' Akhtar said. The counter-terror operations were launched in the forests of the Akhal area on August 1 following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area. So far, two terrorists have been killed while several security forces personnel have sustained injuries. Security forces are using technical surveillance gadgets, including drones and helicopters, to track down the terrorists hiding in the forest. This is the longest anti-terror operation in the Kashmir valley, so far, this year.
