Navi Mumbai man killed as car gets trapped between 2 trucks on h'way
A 27-year-old Navi Mumbai resident was crushed to death after the car he was driving got trapped between two trucks on the Mumbra bypass highway early on Tuesday. A truck driver lost control while descending the bypass around 4am and rear-ended the car, sending it hurtling into a moving container truck, said senior Mumbra police inspector Anil Shinde. Both truck drivers fled the spot. A rescue team pulled the motorist, Vishnu Pal , out of the mangled car and rushed him to Kalwa hospital, where he was declared dead, said Thane regional disaster management cell in-charge Yasin Tadvi. A cousin said Pal worked as a supervisor with a private company and was returning home to Mahape from a wedding anniversary celebration that ran late. The car was owned by another family member. Police have lodged a case under relevant BNS sections. Traffic on the highway's Pune-bound lane was disrupted for some time owing to the accident. —Manoj Badgeri

27-year-old motorist killed after car crushed between two trucks on Mumbra bypass highway
THANE: A 27-year-old motorist was killed after his car was crushed between two trucks on the Mumbra bypass highway in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident was reported around 4.03 am when the driver of a Gujarat-bound truck (GJ 03 BW 8753) lost control of his vehicle while descending the bypass route and rear-ended the ill-fated sedan (MH 43 CE 7369) on its way from Kalwa to Mahape , pushing it further to crash into a Pune-bound moving container truck (KA 42 B 3120). The impact badly mangled the car, trapping it between the two heavy vehicles. The mishap left the driver trapped inside the mangled car, following which a team of rescue officials rushed to the spot. The drivers of both trucks could not be traced as they escaped from the scene. The driver, later identified as Vishnu Pal , 27, a resident of Mahape, was travelling alone in the car at the time of the mishap. A team of civic rescue officials managed to extricate the driver from the mangled car and rushed him to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital , Kalwa, where he was declared dead, informed Yasin Tadvi , in charge at the Thane regional disaster management cell. The mishap affected traffic movement on the Pune-bound lane of the highway, following which the authorities deployed a Hydra machine to remove the affected vehicles from the spot. Traffic movement was restored slowly on the stretch, officials informed.

Man killed after his car gets crushed between trucks in Thane
A 27-year-old man died after his four-wheeler was severely crushed between two heavy vehicles on Tuesday morning in near Mumbra Bypass Road, close to the toll naka, in Maharashtra's Thane district. According to Yasin Tadvi, head of the local disaster management team, the accident occurred at around 4:30 am on the Mumbra Bypass Road. The deceased, Vishnu Pal, was driving a his vehicle when a truck struck the rear of his car, forcing it into a heavy vehicle in front. Vishnu Pal's car got wedged between the two larger vehicles, PTI news agency reported. Rescue teams worked for almost two hours to pull out Pal from the wreckage, but by the time he was transferred to a local civic hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The collision caused disrupted traffic along the busy bypass road during the morning commute. The damaged vehicles were removed from the roadway with the assistance of a Hydra crane. Local police are investigating the crash, and Pal's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. In another unrelated case, three people including a 10-year-old girl — lost their lives, and 12 others were injured when a truck collided with five vehicles on the old Pune-Mumbai highway near the Amrutanjan Bridge on Monday. The incident occurred at around 11 pm on Sunday night at Battery Hill, just below Bor Ghat. A police official from Lonavla reported that the truck, which was travelling from Pune to Mumbai, suffered brake failure while descending the slope. The out-of-control vehicle then crashed into an Innova, an Ertiga, a rickshaw, a Tata Punch, and a highway patrol vehicle. Lonavla police station's senior inspector Suhas Jagtap said, 'Nilesh Lagad and his 10-year-old daughter Shravya Lagad, who were returning to Pune from Alibag in a car, died on the spot. Another person also lost his life in the accident.'
