Man killed, body stored in ice-cream freezer in ‘love triangle murder' in Tripura

The couple was not talking to each other after a recent fight, and the cousin got an inkling, he said. The victim was in a relationship with a 20-year-old woman. On the other side, the woman's cousin wanted to be with her, West Tripura's SP Kiran Kumar said. Agartala, Jun 11 (PTI) A 26-year-old man was allegedly murdered and his body stored in an ice-cream freezer in Tripura in a love triangle gone wrong, police said on Wednesday. He plotted a well-designed plan to kill the boyfriend, and invited him to the house of a relative in South Indiranagar in West Tripura on June 8, police said. The cousin, who is an MBBS graduate from Bangladesh, strangulated him to death with the help of three other persons present there, they said. Then they stuffed the body in a trolley bag. The next day, the cousin called his parents, who live in Gandacherra, to come to Agartala and take the trolley bag with them, police said. 'Accordingly, his parents came to Agartala with a car and took the trolley bag to Gandacherra. They concealed the body in an ice-cream freezer in their shop,' the SP said. The cousin wanted to physically exploit the woman, who recently lost her father. He knew that he couldn't do that till the boyfriend was in the scene, so he conspired to kill him, he said. The accused was a frequent visitor to the woman's house in Bankumari in the East Agartala police station area, he added. Police began an investigation after the victim's family lodged a missing person's complaint, and the cousin was the first person to be arrested, the officer said. 'Based on his confession, the body of the victim was retrieved from the freezer on Wednesday. After a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the victim's family,' he said. A total of six persons, including the cousin's parents, were arrested, Kumar said. PTI PS SOM This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.

Over 17k challans pending against Hyd police vehicles; fine amount Rs 1.3cr

1 2 Hyderabad: At a time when citizens are turning traffic vigilantes, law keepers are found breaching regulations. As per a RTI filed by city-based traffic educator Lokendra Singh, a fleet of vehicles registered under the Director General of Police Telangana have accumulated 17,391 challans — some pending since 2017. Incidentally, though the total challan amount stands at around Rs 68 lakh, the department might have to cough up a penalty of Rs 1.36 crore. This, as Section 210B of the MV Act, 2019, states that if an authority empowered to enforce the Motor Vehicles Act commits an offence, they are liable to a penalty twice the amount corresponding to that offence. These challans, issued to police vehicles with registration series TS 09 PA XXXX and TS 09 PC XXXX, are in use by senior police officials including some of additional SP, additional DCP rank. Most of the violations are related to over-speeding. When TOI checked for details on the portal, it found that a majority of these police vehicles (Innova) had 10 to 15 challans each. Surprisingly, some vehicles had unpaid challans pending since 2018. For instance, one police vehicle TS 09 PA XX88 had 11 challans starting from Oct 2018 to April 2023. The total outstanding amount: Rs 11,385 "The majority of traffic fines against police vehicles are automatically generated by speed detection cameras that monitor vehicles exceeding speed limits. We will forward these fines to the respective officers and ask them to provide evidence justifying their speed violations," said Rahul Hegde BK, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Hyderabad commissionerate and public information officer, traffic branch. He added: "The fines will be withdrawn if we find that the vehicles were responding to emergency situations, conducting patrol duties, or were involved in VIP escorts." Lokendra Singh, a volunteer with Hyderabad City Security Council said such traffic violations set a bad example for the public. "When they see police personnel flouting regulations, it diminishes their trust in the system and leads them to question the necessity of following rules. I have also noticed that many police vehicle drivers often do not use seat belts while driving," said Singh. BOX: City police issues Over 50 lakh challans Hyderabad city police issued as many as 56.3 lakh challans in 2024, with most violations involving riding without helmets and driving on the wrong side. The authorities collected Rs 46.6 lakh against these challans — 82% of the total amount.
