Union minister stresses on skill develpt for women

Guntur: Union minister of state for rural development and communications Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, emphasised that economic self-reliance among women is a crucial foundation for India's development. He noted that skill development — particularly professional training such as tailoring — not only generates employment but also serves as a platform for creativity. Dr Chandrasekhar inaugurated a tailoring training programme for women at Lal Jan Basha Shadi Khana in the Guntur East Assembly constituency on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, he said, 'With Central schemes like Vishwakarma Yojana and Mudra loans, supplemented by free machines and training provided by the state, women should utilise self-help groups to launch ventures such as creating special dresses for weddings, festivals, and cultural events. They should connect with fashion design firms, produce eco-friendly products, and offer home-based tailoring services.' He added, 'Leaders like Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are treating skill development as a mission on a war footing. Providing jobs for everyone is challenging; therefore, fostering creativity and entrepreneurship is vital. We must study global best practices, such as those in the USA, and enhance our own creative capabilities.' Dr Chandrasekhar encouraged women to offer door-to-door tailoring services, create sample products, solicit feedback, target export markets, and leverage digital apps for measuring and maintaining quality. MLA Md Naseer Ahmed, deputy mayor Sk Sajeela, and TDP leader Dasaru Raja Master were among those present at the event. Skill development vital for women's empowerment: Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar

Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar on Saturday (August 9) emphasised that women's economic self-reliance is a key driver of national development, and skill development, particularly in trades like tailoring, not only provides employment but also nurtures creativity. Speaking at the inauguration of a women's tailoring training programme in Guntur, Mr. Chandra Sekhar said the integration of Central schemes such as the Vishwakarma Yojana and Mudra loans with the State government's free sewing machines and training programmes is creating new avenues for women entrepreneurs. He stressed that mastering modern designs, marketing techniques, and digital tools would enable women to compete in global markets. He urged women's self-help groups to explore opportunities in customised wedding and festive wear, tie-ups with fashion design firms, eco-friendly product manufacturing, and home-based tailoring services. Collaborations with local fashion influencers, seasonal and culture-based designs, use of organic fabrics, and partnerships with fashion colleges for design and marketing knowledge were among his recommendations. Highlighting the need for financial literacy, digital skills, and business management, the Minister encouraged the use of digital apps for measurements and quality control, while also promoting export-focused production. He said perseverance and innovation could transform Guntur into a hub for creative industries, adding that MPs could facilitate bank loans if needed. Guntur East MLA Mohammad Naseer and Deputy Mayor Shaik Sajeela were among those present at the event.

India ranks among top world's most equal societies: World Bank report

New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): India has emerged as one of the most equal societies globally, with a Gini Index of 25.5, according to the latest data from the World Bank. Ranking fourth worldwide in income equality, India now stands just behind the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Belarus. 'It reflects how India's economic progress is being shared more evenly across its population. Behind this success is a consistent policy focus on reducing poverty, expanding financial access, and delivering welfare support directly to those who need it most,' a release from the Social Welfare said. The Gini Index, a key measure of income distribution where 0 represents perfect equality and 100 denotes maximum inequality, places India ahead of advanced economies, including China (35.7), the United States (41.8), and all G7 and G20 countries. India's score has improved from 28.8 in 2011, reflecting steady progress in equitable growth. The country's strong performance in reducing poverty has played a central role in achieving greater equality. The World Bank's Spring 2025 Poverty and Equity Brief reports that 171 million Indians were lifted out of extreme poverty between 2011 and 2023. The poverty rate fell sharply from 16.2 per cent to just 2.3 per cent during this period, based on the USD 2.15 per day global poverty threshold. The release also highlights upon, government initiatives have underpinned this transformation. Flagship programs like PM Jan Dhan Yojana have expanded financial inclusion, with over 55 crore bank accounts. Aadhaar, India's digital ID system, now covers more than 142 crore individuals, streamlining welfare delivery through Direct Benefit Transfers, which saved Rs 3.48 lakh crore by March 2023. Healthcare equity has also improved through Ayushman Bharat, which provides Rs 5 lakh health coverage to families and has issued over 41 crore cards. The Stand-Up India scheme supports SC/ST and women entrepreneurs, while the PM Vishwakarma Yojana backs artisans with loans and training. PMGKAY, India's food security scheme, has benefited over 80 crore citizens, it added. (ANI)
