Karnataka tops country in PM Vishwakarma registrations; over 5.7 lakh artisans benefitted
As per a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises confirmed that 2.71 crore applications were received under the scheme as of June 30, 2025, with 29.94 lakh registrations successfully completed—achieving a staggering 99.80% of the national target of 30 lakh registrations.
Among all states, Karnataka has emerged as a frontrunner, receiving the highest number of applications (32,22,576) and recording 5,71,637 successful registrations, which is 17.7% of its total applications. This places Karnataka among the top contributors in terms of absolute numbers, alongside states like Madhya Pradesh (8.8 %) and Maharashtra (10.4%). The national average of successful registrations is 11%.

NEW DELHI: Cabinet on Tuesday approved a bill that seeks to ban "online money game", where users pay a fee or deposit money, proposing a maximum three years in jail or fine of up to Rs 1 crore for those involved in offering, encouraging or inducing players to participate, which also extends to banks facilitating these transactions. A regulator body is planned to oversee the functioning of the sector, sources told TOI. Moreover, offshore entities are seen to be circumventing tax and legal obligations. The proposed legislation also assumes significance as online money gaming poses serious concerns, including addiction among children and youth, mental health issues, financial losses leading to suicides and lack of uniform regulation across states. Law enforcing agencies face problems in tracking and regulating these platforms, particularly those hosted or operated from outside India. For those offering online money games and banks engaged in transactions face violations of the proposed law will be "cognisable and non-bailable" offences. Every subsequent violation after conviction would attract penalties of at least three years' jail and fine of Rs 10-20 lakh. In the case of advertisers, such penalties would be 2-3 years in jail and fine of Rs 5-10 lakh. The bill proposes to hold senior executives of the companies liable, if it's established that the offences have been committed with the consent or connivance or due to their neglect. It also proposes blocking of platforms and money gaming services, if the entities or individuals fail to comply with the law. According to the proposal, the bill seeks to encourage Indian startups to build culturally relevant content, reduce dependence on foreign platforms and promote self-reliance in the digital gaming ecosystem.

RS passes Bill to boost exploration and supply of critical and deep-seated minerals
Rajya Sabha Tuesday passed The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025 which seeks to boost the supply of critical and deep-seated minerals, and relax the regime for mineral conservation, zero waste management and extraction of strategic minerals. The Bill was passed through voice vote as almost all Opposition members had walked out early over their demand for a discussion on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. No Opposition member participated in the two-hour discussion during which 19 MPs spoke in support of the Bill. Lok Sabha passed the Bill on August 12. One of the key provisions of the Bill amending the original 1957 Act is to enable inclusion of new minerals in a mining lease. Minister of Mines G Kishan Reddy said about the government's work on critical minerals: 'Today in each sector, from automobile to defence, we need critical minerals such as beryllium, cobalt, gallium. We have identified 24 critical minerals and `32,000 crore set aside for the critical mineral mission.' He said critical mineral exploration will happen outside India in Zambia, Australia and Argentina. 'India's public sector company KABIL has begun exploration in five blocks in Argentina and production on lithium will start from next year,' he said. The government launched the National Critical Mineral Mission in January. Critical minerals are used in solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles and in energy storage. Earlier, CPI (M) John Brittas raised a point of order under Rule 67 and said that the Bill trampled on the rights of states, usurping powers of state governments. He said that the Bill should be sent to the select committee as it has far-reaching impacts. However, Ghanshyam Tiwari, who was in the chair, did not accept his demand.

Kota, Bundi celebrate Union govt's approval to new Greenfield Airport
Kota: Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla Tuesday thanked PM Narendra Modi for the cabinet nod to Greenfield Airport coming up close to Kota and Bundi. Birla wrote on X, "This airport will give new impetus to the connectivity not only of the entire Hadauti region (Kota-Bundi) but also of Rajasthan and North India. This will open up countless opportunities for tourism, trade, investment and employment. This will make the state a new hub of air traffic and economic activities." Paliwal, along with supporters, had initiated the 'Kota Airport Sangarh Samiti' in 2016, advocating for the airport through online petitions. Kota district BJP president Rakesh Jain, along with party workers, celebrated the project's approval with festivities, extending gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
