SSB foils human trafficking bid in Madhubani
Madhubani: The 48th Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Jaynagar, foiled a human trafficking attempt near the Betouna Check Post in Madhubani on Sunday. According to a press release issued by SSB on Monday, acting on a credible intelligence provided by deputy commandant (operations) Vivek Ojha, the border interaction team (BIT) of 'G' company, Kamala border outpost, apprehended a 26-year-old man and rescued a 13-year-old minor girl, a resident of Kolkata (West Bengal). The operation was conducted around 4pm near border pillar no. 269/6, approximately 800 meters inside Indian territory. During routine checks, the SSB team observed suspicious activity involving the man and the minor. Preliminary investigations revealed a potential case of human trafficking, prompting immediate action. The girl was safely rescued, and the suspect was taken into custody. The 13-year-old girl, a resident of Kolkata, was handed over to Childline, an NGO, for further care and legal proceedings. She was subsequently transferred to Jaynagar police station for additional action. The man, a resident of Madhubani, was found in possession of an Aadhaar card. He has been handed over to Jaynagar police for legal action under the relevant provisions of the Child Protection Act and the Anti-Human Trafficking Act. Initial inquiries revealed that the man and the minor girl had been in contact for several months, and had traveled together to cities including Kolkata, Howrah, Pune, and Darbhanga. They were reportedly planning to settle in Ramaul village in Siraha district of Nepal. A missing persons report had been filed by the families of both persons at Topsia police station in Kolkata.

Kargil Vijay Diwas: SSB takes out cycle rally to promote fitness in Madhubani
Madhubani: On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas , the 48th Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Jaynagar, in collaboration with nearby border outposts, took out a grand cycle rally on Sunday under the aegis of 'Fit India Movement' to promote fitness, discipline, and environmental awareness. The rally was flagged off from the Battalion Headquarters and covered key landmarks, including Jaynagar Railway Station, Shaheed Chowk, Jaynagar Market, Kamla Bridge, and Bypass Highway, before concluding back at the headquarters after reaching Devdha. Over 100 SSB personnel participated with great enthusiasm, showcasing their commitment to fitness and national pride. During the event, heartfelt tributes were paid to the brave martyrs of the Kargil War, honouring their sacrifice and heroism. Kargil Vijay Diwas, a symbol of India's courage and determination, was commemorated with deep respect and gratitude. The event was graced by the presence of key officials, including Shri Harendra Singh, Second-in-Command (Acting Commandant); Shri Vivek Ojha, Deputy Commandant, and Shri Narendra Kumar Singh, Assistant Commandant (Communication). In his address, Shri Harendra Singh emphasised the significance of the 'Fit India Movement,' stating, "Through this initiative, we not only promote physical fitness but also strengthen the role of a healthy body and mind in nation-building. The cycle rally symbolizes environmental conservation, physical fitness, and discipline." Aligned with the theme of "Healthy India, Empowered India," the rally aimed to inspire the public to embrace health, discipline, and environmental consciousness.

SSB seizes ganja near India-Nepal border
Madhubani: The 48th battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Jaynagar, conducted an operation near the India-Nepal border on Tuesday and seized a large quantity of drug. The operation, conducted under the leadership of battalion's deputy commandant Hari Narain Jat, led to the confiscation of approximately 344.3 kg of ganja (marijuana) from an abandoned car and a motorcycle. The seizure occurred on the Indian side, approximately 2.1 km from border post no. 277/01. According to a release issued by the SSB, the illicit substance were being transported via a remote route often used by smugglers to evade detection. The operation was initiated based on intelligence input provided by deputy commandant Vivek Ojha. Commandant Govind Singh Bhandari commended the efforts of the battalion in seizure of the drug. The seized ganja was handed over to the Basopatti police for further legal action.

High alert in Bihar after 15 to 20 drones spotted entering from Nepal, hovering for 40 minutes
PATNA: A high alert was sounded by Bihar police in districts along the India-Nepal border on Tuesday, after 15 to 20 drones were sighted entering Indian airspace from Nepal on Monday night. The drones hovered for about 40 minutes in areas under the Kamla Border Outpost (BoP) in Madhubani district before returning to Nepal. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Deputy Commandant Vivek Ojha confirmed that '15–20 drone-like equipment were sighted moving in the sky in areas falling under Kamla border police outpost at around 7.30 pm on Monday. They returned to Nepal after moving from west-east direction. The equipment entered Indian airspace and returned towards northern Nepal.' Ojha further added that SSB personnel deployed at the Janki Nagar BoP spotted the equipment as they returned to Nepal. 'The SSB officials immediately alerted their seniors, who, in turn, passed on the message to officials at Darbhanga Air Force and Delhi Air Force stations,' he said. Following this, the authorities declared a high alert along the international border.

Banned drugs seized in Madhubani raids
Madhubani: Large quantities of banned medicines and narcotics were seized in two separate raids in Madhubani district, pointing to a growing illegal trade in contraband on a tip-off, a joint operation was carried out on May 7 by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Jaynagar police, led by Vivek Ojha, deputy commandant (operations), 48 battalion, SSB, Jaynagar. One Indian smuggler, Ritesh Kumar Singh (28) of Chhatouni village under Basopatti police station, was arrested near Patna Gaddi Chowk. Altogether 2,764 bottles (100ml each) of cough syrup, 88,615 narcotic tablets along with Rs 1.64 lakh in Indian currency were recovered from the crackdown, Madhepur police raided the premises of a medicine store near the new bus stand on May 9. The raid led to the seizure of 1,261 bottles of banned cough syrup, 12,297 narcotic capsules and tablets, Rs 11,000 in cash and three cellphones. Police arrested three people – Madhukar Yadav (21), Sumindar Kumar (33), both from Bhandaria village in Darbhanga and Ahmad Raza (60) of Mahisam village, liquor ban in Bihar has fuelled a rise in illicit activities with Madhubani's porous border with Nepal turning it into a hub for smuggled liquor, narcotics and prescription drugs.
