Vivo's Vision Pro-Like Headset Confirmed To Launch, Product Design Teased

Vivo is bringing its own mixed reality headset like Vision Pro to the market this month and here's a quick look at the design. Vivo is going to be one of the first phone brands to bring its own Vision Pro-like mixed reality headset to the market. The company has teased its product along with the launch details for the new category and the visuals of the device look really similar to the profile of Apple's headset. Vivo is going to unveil the new product in China next week which will also include an imaging festival, as the teasers have hinted. The visor-like design has encapsulated the market thanks to Vision Pro and it seems more brands are happy to carry the baton. The product teaser from Vivo clearly shows a durable device with metal build quality and the displays sitting under the visor. The company is calling it the Vivo Vision headset and the unveiling is on Thursday, August 21 in China. Vivo even has a crown dial added into the mix that should probably help you control the settings of the headset's transparency through the visor based on the content you are watching. It is likely to have a band that rests on the head to hold the device and let you enjoy the content handsfree. The company is promising a lightweight design which should aid comfort something that the Vision Pro doesn't offer a lot. But the brand has clearly noted Apple's formula for its headset and will have three-dimensional controls along with gesture support mostly tipped. However, Vivo might be following Apple's trick in some of the not-so-appealing aspects well. The headset is unlikely to come at a mass market pricing, and like Apple, the company is expected to focus on making it an experiential product in China and giving people the chance to reserve and test it (for a blocking charge) before paying the full sum. We are eager to see if Vivo can fix the ailing battery issues of this form factor and also deliver a premium OS experience that can make or break this platform. Do we expect this headset to launch in markets like India, that is quite unlikely at this stage and Vivo would probably look at more accessible AR smart glasses for other regions in the near future. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. This year's Vision Pro contender is giving us what we needed from Apple's VR headset

*Image credit — Ice Universe For a while, there have been reports of an Apple Vision Pro contender being made by Chinese manufacturer Vivo. Now, there is further confirmation that the company understands where Apple went wrong, and is making sure that its upcoming headset doesn't fumble where it matters most. One of the biggest complaints for the Vision Pro — aside from the exorbitant price tag of $3,499 — was its comfort. Naturally, if an XR ( Extended Reality ) headset isn't pleasant to wear, it's not going to be a hit with the masses. The Vivo Vision, as it's being called, aims to tackle both comfort and price this year. A reliable insider has reported ( translated source ) that the Vivo Vision is going to be a much more comfortable headset to use for long periods of time. The headset has had its weight balanced to a degree that the user won't be feeling like one side of their head is heavier than the other. It will also likely be lighter, as Vivo will probably not use nearly as much glass as Apple did. Furthermore, the headset takes aim at the Vision Pro directly in other ways. The Vivo Vision looks very similar to Apple's premium MR ( Mixed Reality ) headset. It also reportedly lets the user navigate the UI in the same way as well: via hand gestures and eye tracking. Lastly, the content that users will get access to will apparently mirror that which is found on the Vision Pro . The Apple Vision Pro got uncomfortable to wear around the 30-minute mark. | Image credit — PhoneArena Of course, the Vivo Vision wouldn't be a real alternative if it didn't offer the same quality of experiences that the Vision Pro does. To that end, Vivo's headset will be powered by an excellent Qualcomm Snapdragon chip to directly challenge Apple's M2 processor. Additionally, the company has gone all out for the display, and it will be one of the best across the entire industry. And, perhaps most importantly of all, the Vivo Vision will almost certainly be more affordable than the Apple Vision Pro . Now all that remains to be seen is whether Samsung's upcoming Project Moohan, which also looks very much like Apple's headset, will be priced similarly or not.

Vivo VR Headset Takes Inspiration From Apple Vision Pro

Vivo Vision headset Apple's Vision Pro has famously not been as big a hit as Apple initially hoped, but that has not stopped rivals including Vivo from taking cues from Apple's headset. China's Vivo has just announced its Vision headset, which has several elements in common with the Vision Pro, announced in June 2023. It shares the Vision Pro's dark-but-shiny front panel, its cable-tethered battery pack, similar use of colour and a corrugated look to the rear head strap design. To those familiar with VR headsets, the likeness is unmistakeable. There are some signs the Vivo Vision may bear some of improvements made possible by arriving two years later, though. The main body of the headset appears a little less bulky than Apple's, and there's no sign of a front-mounted screen. That was one of the less well-received elements of Apple's headset. Vivo's unveiling of the Vision headset served as just that, though, an unveiling. It has not yet announced technical specs for the device, like its processor, screen panel tech or resolution. A pair of downward-facing cameras suggest the headset may use advanced hand tracking gestures, though, as seen in Apple's Vision Pro. The use of an external battery pack also implies it will have its own fairly powerful processor and baked-in interface. A headset that needs to be plugged in at all times might as well be plugged in for power too. Vivo is expected to give the headset a full introduction in mid-2025. In its statement, Vivo suggested the mixed reality headset will be positioned as both a consumer device and to develop 'the "brain" and "eyes" of robots.' The headset was announced as part of a Boao Forum event, held in Hainan. It's easy to underestimate the importance of Vivo from a western perspective. According to Counterpoint Research data for Q4 2024, Vivo commands 8% of global market share for smartphones, positioning it behind only Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi. Vivo is part of BBK Electronics, the umbrella company that owns OPPO, OnePlus, Realme and IQOO.
