For religious and specialized tourism, the vision underscores Jordan's potential to become a preferred destination for pilgrimages and niche segments such as conferences, exhibitions, and events. 'Jordan: A Global Destination' Growth Driver This pillar includes two sectors and encompasses 25 initiatives aimed at transforming Jordan into a premier destination for international tourists, especially in cultural, natural, medical, wellness, and religious tourism, as well as for film producers through a globally integrated system. The tourism sector specifically includes 16 initiatives focused on developing marketable, world-class experiences in heritage, nature-based, religious, medical, wellness, and adventure tourism. Tourism Growth in Early 2025 Jordan's tourism sector witnessed notable growth in the first third of 2025, with increases in tourism revenues and international visitor numbers compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the Central Bank and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. Tourism revenue from January to April 2025 reached approximately 1.721 billion JOD, marking a 15.3% increase from the same period in 2024, which recorded 1.493 billion JOD. International visitor numbers during the same period totaled 2.125 million, a 19% increase from 1.785 million in the first third of 2024. This positive trend in tourism revenue and visitor arrivals reflects a notable improvement in sector performance, attributed largely to targeted global promotional campaigns and the resumption of direct, low-cost flights, which have made access to Jordan's tourist destinations more convenient. — (Petra News Agency)

VTC, Canadian delegation launch vocational training alliance
Director General of the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) Ahmad Gharaibeh on Sunday receives a Canadian delegation (Petra photo) AMMAN — Director General of the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) Ahmad Gharaibeh on Sunday received a Canadian delegation led by Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour of New Brunswick Jean-Claude D'Amours and Deputy Minister of Labour of Nova Scotia Dana MacKenzie, along with several representatives from the public and private sectors. According to a VTC statement, the strategic partnership is part of ongoing efforts to implement the Economic Modernisation Vision (2025–2028) and boost international cooperation in vocational training. The visit follows the third round of meetings between Jordanian public-private stakeholders and their counterparts in the two Canadian provinces. Participating Jordanian institutions included the VTC, Jadara University, and the Middle East Aviation Academy. During the meeting, discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation between the VTC and Canadian partners. The Canadian side expressed strong interest in formalising the partnership through official agreements aimed at launching joint vocational training programs. These programs would target Jordanian university graduates, enhancing their technical and professional skills, improving their English language proficiency, and preparing them to enter the Canadian labour market, the statement said. The two sides identified a range of high-priority sectors facing significant labour shortages in Canada. These include healthcare, renewable energy, electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance, tourism, hospitality, information technology, digital skills, construction, aircraft and home maintenance, and aviation sciences. Minister D'Amours highlighted that New Brunswick anticipates over 133,000 job openings, while Nova Scotia projects more than 90,000 available positions by 2025, underscoring the urgency of expanding vocational cooperation. Both sides also emphasised the importance of twinning select VTC institutes with Canadian counterparts to align training curricula and standards. The partnership aims to provide advanced training opportunities in Canada, enabling Jordanian students to gain a competitive edge in the international job market.

Bakkar said that the agreement comes in response to the labour market's "growing" need for specialised technical workers in the contracting sector, a "vital" industry that contributes to economic growth and creation of "sustainable" job opportunities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday. Bakkar stressed the importance of partnerships with the private sector to achieve "sustainable" development and reduce unemployment rates. The minister noted that the empowerment of Jordanian youth to receive the required skills is a "fundamental" pillar of the Economic Modernisation Vision and a national priority. VTC Director General Ahmad Gharaibeh said that the corporation continues to develop its partnerships with "leading" companies in various sectors, aimed to providing training programmes that keep pace with modern technological and professional developments. Gharaibeh noted that this agreement represents a "practical model" of the VTC's endeavours to make a "true" cooperation in linking training to direct employment opportunities. Masri said that the company views this partnership as a "true" investment in national human capital, aimed to train Jordanian youth, in accordance with "high" standards, which would contribute to raising projects' quality and enhancing "competitiveness" of the construction sector locally and regionally. Under the agreement, specialised vocational training programmes are outlined and designed to cover a "wide" range of skills required in the contracting sector, including public safety and work site management. The training will be implemented over two phases, as the theoretical stage lasts six to eight weeks, followed by training at the work sites of Mid Contracting Company, which would enhance trainees' readiness to enter the job market upon graduation. The VTC will also provide equipped training centres in Balqa and Zarqa governorates and "qualified" trainers and logistical services. VTC graduates 12,000 vocational trainees last year —director
The VTC seeks to accommodate the "largest" possible number of trainees by providing some specialisations in two morning and evening shifts in 17 institutes (File photo) AMMAN — Director-General of the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) Ahmad Gharaibeh said that the corporation's mission aims to create job opportunities and employ alumni, regardless of their ages or academic backgrounds. Gharaibeh noted that 2024 was "exceptional" in the VTC's success story, as the number of its graduates exceeded 12,000 trainees, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He added that this achievement came despite the fact that the capacity of the VTC-affiliated institutes stands at 8,000 trainees. The VTC seeks to accommodate the "largest" possible number of trainees by providing some specialisations in two morning and evening shifts in 17 institutes, Gharaibeh said. The director-general noted that the number of trainees currently enrolled in the VTC's training activities is 9,500 people in vocational training programmes and 1,500 others in vocational education activities. Referring to last year's VTC expansion, he said that the current number of institutes now reach 30 across the Kingdom. Gharaibeh said that 62 per cent of the VTC's graduates obtained job opportunities and have social security subscriptions, 53 per cent of whom work in their specialisations and 9 per cent joined other fields. He said that 19 per cent of graduates work in the informal economy, indicating that some 80 per cent of the VTC's graduates have sources of income. Gharaibeh stressed that the VTC works in line with the strategic axis in the Economic Modernisation Vision, which includes six priorities for the vocational and technical training and education sector.
