Former Vulcan Iron Works site catches fire again

The burned-out remains of a Winnipeg industrial site have caught fire once again. Fire crews were seen spraying water on the massive Vulcan Iron Works warehouse on Sutherland Avenue, in the Point Douglas neighbourhood, on Saturday evening. Crews were called shortly to the warehouse before 8 p.m., the city said in a news release. Firefighters battled the blaze from outside of the building, using aerial ladder trucks and hand lines to spray water on the fire, the city said. A drone was also deployed to find hotspots. Fire crews were still at the site around 9 p.m. to ensure the fire will be put out completely, the city said. No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. The Vulcan Iron Works warehouse has suffered multiple fires since it was destroyed in a July 2023 blaze.
