Isolated Showers for Sunday, Better Chances Rest of the Week!
We started a little wet here in the Chattahoochee Valley as showers developed early this morning bringing wet roadways to the area. Those showers have since moved off to the East. Temperatures this morning are pretty mild with upper 60s and low 70s under mostly cloudy skies. Today, we'll see partly to mostly cloudy skies with an isolated shower or storms possible. A few storms could be strong to severe, but widespread severe weather is not expected. Main hazards from those storms will be damaging wind gusts and some small hail. THIS WEEK:Memorial Day through Thursday will be very similar in that skies will be mostly cloudy much of the time with scattered showers and storms as shortwaves continue to ride along a stalled out front. Highs each day will be in mid to upper the 80s and overnight lows in the upper 60s to around 70. A few storms each day could be strong to severe as we remain under a 'Marginal' risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather, but widespread severe weather is not expected. Main hazards will be damaging wind gusts and some small hail. A second front arrives on Thursday and that looks to help suppress the majority of the rain south of us on Friday as showers become more isolated. UPCOMING WEEKEND:The upcoming weekend is looking dry and a bit cooler with that front from Thursday pushing the rain further south, leaving us with partly cloudy skies and afternoon highs in the low 80s. We will see some increased cloudiness tonight with showers and storms possible. Sunday will feature a mix of sun and clouds with some isolated showers and storms possible. Highs again will be near 90°. A few storms could be strong to severe, but widespread severe weather is not expected. NEXT WEEK:Memorial Day is looking mostly cloudy with a good chance for a few showers and storms. It's not looking like a washout, but you may need the umbrella at times. Highs will be in the upper 80s. The rest of the workweek is also looking wet at times with more clouds than sun as a stalled out front lingers in the area helping yo kick up showers and storms each day. WEATHER AWARE for Mother's Day!
MOTHER'S DAY:We are Weather Aware for Mother's Day as we could see a few storms reach severe limits, but we don't expect widespread severe weather, and overall, the main issue is going to be the rain as we could see several inches today. Much of it depends on where those bands of showers and storms setup. Highs today will be in the low to mid 70s. THIS WEEK:Rain chances continue into Monday, but the showers and storms will be more of the scattered variety. Highs on Monday will near 80. Tuesday, much of the same with showers and storms becoming isolated and highs near 80 once again. Wednesday, we start to crank up the heat as we get into the mid 80s with just a stray shower possible. UPCOMING WEEKEND:Thursday into the weekend, the heat really cranks up as we'll see low 90s Thursday, mid 90s Friday, and low to mid 90s on Saturday. Skies will be partly cloudy Thursday through the weekend with isolated showers possible Saturday and Sunday. Local Flower Shops Face Higher Costs Ahead of Mother's Day Due to Tariffs
WRBL News 3 COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)— With Mother's Day just days away, local flower shops are feeling the pressure — not just from demand, but from rising costs driven by international tariffs. Hazel's Flowers & Gifts, a longtime staple in Midtown Columbus, says this year's floral shipments have been delayed, and prices are higher than usual. 'Between the shipping issues and increased tariffs, it's been a challenge,' said owner Hazel Thomas, who has been in business for nearly 37 years. 'But we're doing everything we can to keep our arrangements beautiful and affordable.' Many flowers are imported from countries like Colombia and Ecuador, where tariffs and international supply chain slowdowns are raising the price of roses, lilies, and popular spring blooms. Still, customers aren't holding back. Hazel says demand remains strong as families look to celebrate the moms and mother figures in their lives. 'It's always a meaningful holiday,' she added. 'And we'll be here making sure everyone has something special to give.' Hazel's Flowers & Gifts is still accepting Mother's Day orders and offers delivery across the Columbus area. Dry for Easter Sunday, Rain Chances Return by Tuesday!
Easter Sunday is looking mostly cloudy at times, but dry, with afternoon highs in the mid 80s. We've got high pressure to our East and a ridge over the top of us preventing any system really making any headway into our area. A sagging front will stall out over the area on Tuesday, but even then, rain chances will remain pretty slim locally, with the higher chances west and north of us. Overnight lows will be in the low 60s, and afternoon highs in the mid 80s to start the week, with upper 80s and maybe a few 90s to end the week. Bottom line, rain chances do return by Tuesday and stay with us for the rest of the week, but they will be rather slim. There is some uncertainty toward the end of the week as to how much that ridge breaks down, and whether or not we see a slight increase in rain chances, so stay tuned.
