GAME #1 – Skyforge If you haven't heard of it, Skyforge is an massively multiplayer RPG set in a sci-fi fantasy world. It launched back in 2015, but is finally going offline after 10 years. "It is incredibly difficult for us to share the following news," the game creators said. Advertisement Read more on video games WIN-TENDO! Payments have already been disabled on the game, and it'll switch off for PC players on September 3. That'll be followed by a console closure across Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. The console closure date is set later, on October 29. Advertisement GAME #2 – WWE 2K24 Wrestling fans are also facing a closure: this time it's WWE 2K24. The wrestling title – published by 2K – came out on March 8, 2024. GAME #4 – Rust: Console Edition Multiplayer survival game Rust is also getting killed off – at least on certain consoles. WHY DO GAMES SHUT DOWN? By The Sun's tech editor Sean Keach... It's simple: money. When a game is entirely online – or has online features – then there's a cost associated with that. The game developer is having to pay to run servers so you can play. And they'll need developers working on fixing bugs, staff catching cheaters, customer support staff, and more. Over time, as player counts dwindle, it becomes less economically viable to offer these services. That's especially true for sports games where newer versions come out – drawing away players from the older titles. In those cases, it's usually just the online service that is pulled. But some games – like MMORPGs – are entirely online. There's no offline mode to fall back on. In those cases, the games are often shut down entirely. In some cases, players will set up their own private version of the game to let it live on. But dwindling players for an MMO is a bad sign – and usually means the game isn't far from its own doomsday. Other times, a game closes due to an overall studio shutdown. But generally, it's because the cost of supporting the game is too high versus the money coming in from players. GAME #5 – Fifa 23 It's not just American Football getting a closure – regular footie is also facing a chop. Fifa 23 will have its online servers shut down on December 12, 2025. Advertisement 5 Fifa 23 will soon lose access to online services Credit: Fifa / EA That'll affect players on PS4 and PS5, all Xbox models, PC, and the Nintendo Switch. It means the game's online features will be switched off, blocking all multiplayer. This was notably the last EA Fifa game, before the publisher switched to EA Sports FC – so it's an extra tragedy.

Brock Lesnar makes controversial WWE return after 2 years at SummerSlam
Brock Lesnar made a shock return at WWE SummerSlam almost two years to the day since his last appearance. The former world champion's faced Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2023, before being named in the Vince McMahon sex trafficking lawsuit, which was originally filed in January 2024. Despite being named several times in an amendment earlier this year, Lesnar is not a defendant in the lawsuit, while McMahon has denied all allegations made by former employee Janel Grant. The 48-year-old star made his return at the end of SummerSlam after John Cena lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes and was soaking up the applause of the fans. The live crowd went into a frenzy as Lesnar's music hit, and the so-called Beast Incarnate hit the ring and dropped his longtime on-screen rival with the F-5 move. It now appears Lesnar and Cena will face each other for one final match during the latter's ongoing retirement tour, which will conclude in December 2025. His return also coincides with WWE cancelling its usual post show press conferences this weekend, although a roundup after the event was broadcast without media in attendance. Paul 'Triple H' Levesque said: 'This is John Cena's wishlist. It's him writing the last chapter of his book.' H added: '[Cena's retirement tour is] about John being able to go out the way he wants to go out. To write his chapter. 'I know what that's like as a performer. I know what that's like for everybody to feel that, and I think for John to be able to do what he wants to do. One of the very first things I said to him is 'Who do you want? And how?' And we're working through that.' Fan reaction to his comeback has been heavily mixed, with many condemning the decision while others have defended the move. One viewer argued: 'If you're complaining about Brock Lesnar's return, stop watching. Stop watching. Stop posting. Stop buying merch. Stop going to shows. Otherwise, you're a hypocrite. Complain. Complain. Complain. Stop watching or shut up.' But a different fan insisted: 'We as a society have moved past the need for Brock Lesnar.' According to PWInsider, Lesnar was flown into New Jersey – the site of this weekend's shows – 'under the cover of darkness' and hid from people during the day. 'There was talk of a surprise for tonight that even the company writers were kept in the dark about,' the outlet added. In the amended complaint earlier this year, Lesnar was named by Grant as the wrestler McMahon allegedly offered her to as a 'sexual pawn' during contract negotiations in 2021. Lesnar was written off television and rarely mentioned on screen following the initial allegations, while he was removed from last year's WWE 2K24 video game. He is yet to comment on the lawsuit publicly. More Trending It's alleged that in 2021, McMahon shared explicit photos with Lesnar, telling Grant: 'He likes what he sees', while a proposed encounter between the two did not take place after the wrestler was allegedly intoxicated. The original lawsuit referenced an anonymous superstar, but did not name Lesnar, although the Wall Street Journal did identify him in its report. After the amendment earlier this year, an attorney for McMahon told the Daily Mail: 'As expected, the proposed amended complaint is nothing more than the latest publicity stunt in an ongoing smear campaign. Brock Lesnar makes shocking SummerSlam return in first WWE appearance since being named in bombshell Vince McMahon lawsuit
Brock Lesnar returned to WWE for the first time in two years after being named in the bombshell civil sexual lawsuit against Vince McMahon. Lesnar's music hit for his stunning return after Cody Rhodes defeated John Cena to win the Undisputed WWE championship in the main event of Night 2 at SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium on Sunday night. Lesnar, whose last appearance was at SummerSlam in 2023, delivered his F5 finisher to a stunned Cena to set up a match later this year during the 'Peacemaker' star's retirement run. 4 Brock Lesnar makes his first appearance at SummerSlam on Sunday night since his name was involved in a sexual lawsuit. X @WWE It's the former UFC heavyweight champion's first time on the company's programming since his name came up in allegations made against the former WWE boss, McMahon, made by ex-employee Janel Grant. She accuses him of sexual assault and sex trafficking. Grant filed the suit in January 2024. The original complaint did not include Lesnar's name, only referencing a 'world-famous athlete and former UFC Heavyweight Champion' whom McMahon was trying to sign at the time. Lesnar, who is not a defendant in the case, was officially named by Grant in federal court in an amended complaint in February. Grant accused McMahon of asking her to create 'personalized sexual content' for Lesnar in July 2021 during his contract negotiations. She also alleges McMahon flew Lesnar to Connecticut in 2021 for a sexual encounter that ended up not happening. 4 Brock Lesnar wrestles Omos during WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium on April 02, 2023 in Inglewood, California. 'As expected, the proposed amended complaint is nothing more than the latest publicity stunt in an ongoing smear campaign,' McMahon attorney Jessica Rosenberg said in a statement to ESPN at the time. 'It is filled with desperate falsehoods from a team that continues to disregard the law and the truth.' Lesnar has been persona non grata around WWE since then, with his merchandise being taken down from WWE Shop and his playable character, along with McMahon's, being removed from the WWE 2K24 video game. Lesnar was rumored to be returning at the 2024 Royal Rumble, but the appearance was scrapped after the news of the lawsuit broke 4 WWE champion Brock Lesnar is introduced at a WWE news conference at T-Mobile Arena on October 11, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also accused McMahon in the lawsuit of forcing her into sexual relationships to keep her job.
