By Nur Ashikin Abdul Aziz SINGAPORE, May 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's world number one men's doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, powered into the Singapore Open 2025 quarterfinals with a dominant win in an all-Malaysian second-round clash today. The world number one duo delivered a polished performance to overcome Wan Arif Wan Junaidi and Yap Roy King, ranked 23rd in the world, with a convincing 21-13, 21-11 victory in 33 minutes at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. bootstrap slideshow Nur Izzuddin said their main focus was simply to give their best in today's match. 'We just focused on our preparation, enjoyed the game, and did our best,' he told Bernama, adding that they now aim to carry the momentum into the next round. Meanwhile, Wan Arif and Roy King said they would focus on improving ahead of the Indonesia Open 2025 next week. Wan Arif-Roy King will open their Indonesia Open 2025 campaign against French duo Eloi Adam-Leo Rossi. 'Although our performance today was better, we were still inconsistent and made too many mistakes. Next, we'll try to enjoy the game in the Indonesia Open and hope for a better result,' said Wan Arif. In the mixed doubles event, Malaysia's top-seeded duo Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie also marched into the quarterfinals after a solid straight-game win over China's newly formed pair Feng Yan Zhe and Wei Ya Xin, triumphing 21-11, 21-19 in 34 minutes.

Aaron-Wooi Yik storm into semi-finals, eye first Thai Open title

BANGKOK: Malaysia's leading men's doubles pair and reigning Asian men's doubles champions, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, have set their sights on clinching the Thailand Open 2025 title after sweeping aside compatriots Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King in the quarter-finals today. Aaron-Wooi Yik, the tournament's second seeds, defeated their junior counterparts Wan Arif-Roy King 21-12, 21-13, to set up a semi-final clash with home favourites and tournament fifth seeds Kittinupong Kedren-Dechapol Puavaranukroh of Thailand tomorrow. Aaron said they are focused on taking it one game at a time but remain hopeful of securing the title this year. 'Of course, we hope to go all the way to win it, but at the moment, we just need to give our best in every match we play. 'For tomorrow, we just need to prepare ourselves to face the match and give it everything we have. Win or lose, it's secondary as long as we have given our best,' he told Bernama after the match. Aaron also noted that it is encouraging to see the rise of many junior pairs, such as Wan Arif-Roy King, Man Wei Chong-Kai Wun Tee, and Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal, participating in major tournaments. 'The juniors are improving, and we are getting more and more men's doubles pairs in major tournaments, which is a healthy sign for the country,' he said. Meanwhile, Wan Arif admitted they did not deliver their best performance against the senior pair Aaron-Soh and acknowledged the need for significant improvements to progress further in future tournaments. 'Unfortunately, we couldn't perform at our best today, which cost us the match. After the game, I think we need to work on receiving the shuttle better and improving our consistency in the game plan,' he said. For the record, the last Malaysian men's doubles pair to win the Thailand Open title were Chan Peng Soon-Lim Khim Wah in 2009. Aaron-Soh rally to secure second round spot in Thai Open 2025

BANGKOK: National men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik powered into the second round of the Thailand Open 2025 after defeating France's Julien Maio and William Villeger today. The reigning Asian men's doubles champions needed over an hour to secure a hard-fought 22-24, 21-19, 21-15 victory. Aaron acknowledged that playing after midnight had affected their performance, particularly in the opening game, but they managed to recover in the subsequent games. 'We are happy that we managed to make a comeback and advance to the next round,' he told Bernama at the Nimibutr Stadium today. Soh added that they are still adapting to their new coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi, and his tactical approach. 'This is only our second or third tournament under coach Herry, and we hope to perform well and deliver results,' he said. Aaron-Soh are expected to face the winners of the match between Taiwan's Lu Ming Che-Tang Kai Wei and Japan's Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita, scheduled later. Meanwhile, in an earlier match, Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King advanced to the second round after overcoming India's Pruthvi Krishnamurthy and Sai Pratheek in a gruelling encounter, winning 22-20, 17-21, 21-18 in over an hour. Wan Arif admitted that nerves affected their performance, leading to a subpar display. 'Our defence was poor, our shots lacked quality, and we committed too many unforced errors. If we can progress further, I hope we can play better in the upcoming matches,' he said. Wan Arif also revealed that he and his partner have set a target of reaching at least the quarter-finals in this tournament. Wan Arif and Yap will next face compatriots Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai, who defeated Thailand's Pharanyu Kaosamaang and Tanadon Punpanich 12-21, 21-13, 21-15 in 58 minutes.
