Nur Izzuddin said their main focus was simply to give their best in today's match.
'We just focused on our preparation, enjoyed the game, and did our best,' he told Bernama, adding that they now aim to carry the momentum into the next round.
Meanwhile, Wan Arif and Roy King said they would focus on improving ahead of the Indonesia Open 2025 next week.
Wan Arif-Roy King will open their Indonesia Open 2025 campaign against French duo Eloi Adam-Leo Rossi.
'Although our performance today was better, we were still inconsistent and made too many mistakes. Next, we'll try to enjoy the game in the Indonesia Open and hope for a better result,' said Wan Arif.
In the mixed doubles event, Malaysia's top-seeded duo Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie also marched into the quarterfinals after a solid straight-game win over China's newly formed pair Feng Yan Zhe and Wei Ya Xin, triumphing 21-11, 21-19 in 34 minutes.

Mitsuki's racquet switch begins to pay dividends

KUALA LUMPUR: Tennis player Mitsuki Leong is now back to his best, says his father-cum-coach Jeff Leong. Jeff said Mitsuki, who claimed his maiden ITF doubles title (M15) in Kazakhstan on Saturday (Aug 9), had taken time to adjust to some equipment changes he made at the start of the year. "We decided to change racquet model at the start of the year because we felt it would benefit his game in the long run," said Jeff when contacted yesterday. "He likes the new racquet a lot and it gives his game a boost in certain areas. It has, however, taken him a little time to fully adapt but he is very comfortable with it now. "We came back to Malaysia for a couple of weeks last month to work on his game and he is now playing very well. "He won the doubles and also reached the singles quarterfinals in Astana but was unlucky to face the second seed there. "He will next compete in a few challengers in Greece (starting this week) and hopefully he can make good progress. "Challengers are much tougher, you even get top-200 and top-300 players competing in the lowest tier Challenger 50 events so nothing is guaranteed." Mitsuki partnered Czech player Dominik Palan in Astana. It was the first time a Malaysian player had won an ITF doubles title since Christian Didier Chin, partnering Ng Hao Yuan (Singapore), won in Singapore (M15) in 2019. The winner of Challenger 50 events bags 50 ATP points. Challengers can offer as high as 175 points. Mitsuki, who recently turned 21, achieved a career-high ATP ranking of 605 in late June but has since dropped to 640. It is nevertheless the highest a Malaysian player has been ranked in decades.

Photo credit: Facebook/Majlis Sukan Negara Malaysia KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 11): National wushu queen Tan Cheong Min has dedicated her World Games gold medal to the country as a National Day gift. She said her achievement last Saturday was also an important recognition for the sport, as it was contested as an official event at the World Games for the first time. 'This gold medal is not just for me. It is for Malaysia and a gift for this year's National Day. 'Previously, wushu was not an official event in the World Games. So the Asian Games and World Championships were regarded as the highest platforms for us. I am very proud and happy,' she said when contacted today. The former world champion hoped her success would inspire other athletes to keep striving for excellence and continue to elevate the sport's status. Cheong Min's gold boosted Malaysia's overall medal haul at the Chengdu Games to three, with the other two being a silver and a bronze. The Melaka-born athlete said the victory has boosted her motivation as she now turns her focus to several upcoming competitions this year. 'I'm targeting gold at the World Wushu Championships in Brazil in September. 'After that, I will try to focus on the SEA Games in Thailand in December,' she said. Cheong Min won her first world title in 2017 in Kazan in the duilian event, before claiming her second in 2019 in Shanghai in the nandao event. – Bernama gold medal Tan Cheong Min Wushu

#SHOWBIZ: Jefri Nichol trounced by Ahmad Dhani's son in 38-second boxing match

JAKARTA: Indonesian actor Jefri Nichol accepted his defeat in a boxing match 'Superstar Knockout' held here last Saturday. Although he lost, Jefri expressed satisfaction for being able to return to action even though the match against the son of rock singer Ahmad Dhani, Ahmad El Jalaluddin Rumi, ended in just 38 seconds. The boyfriend of Malaysian model and influencer Ameera Khan said in Threads that the referee had to stop the match after he dislocated his shoulder during the fight. "I accept my defeat, and sometimes what we plan doesn't happen," said Jefri. "My shoulder was dislocated, and the organisers decided to stop the match immediately. "Anyway, I am happy to be back in the ring even though El Rumi and I couldn't fight for long." Jefri expressed his gratitude to everyone who offered words of encouragement and support throughout his participation in the competition, especially Ameera.
