Shein shares innovations to boost supplier manufacturing efficiency
The event, hosted at Shein's Centre for Innovation in Garment Manufacturing (CIGM), provided third-party suppliers with an opportunity to explore a range of technical tools designed to enhance manufacturing efficiency and garment quality. The Tools Day event featured live demonstrations and a virtual tour, allowing suppliers to engage with various innovations designed to address common challenges in fashion apparel production. Among the showcased tools were the 'Beaded Embroidery Seam Presser Foot' and the 'Bead Breaking Attachment'. The beaded embroidery seam presser foot is designed to delicately shift beads to the side, enabling the sewing needle to pass smoothly among them. Meanwhile, the bead breaking attachment incorporates an element that fractures the beads and a system that ejects the shattered bead pieces, facilitating automated bead detachment along the seams, explained Shein. These two complementary tools help automate the removal of beads along seam lines, thus preserving fabric integrity and reducing the need for manual skill in working with embellished fabrics. More than 900 units have been implemented across supplier factories within Shein's supply chain since their launch in 2024. Additionally, seven new tools launched in 2025 were highlighted at the event. These included devices aimed at simplifying the application of lace and webbing embellishments, such as the 'Adjustable Flatbed Webbing Puller' and the 'Four-Thread Overlock Lace Tape Presser Foot'. The use of these tools has reportedly enabled suppliers to cut down on manual labour by up to 80% in certain production stages. Since CIGM's inception in 2023, Shein has developed over 170 individual tools and supplied nearly 6,000 units to its suppliers for a fee. The implementation of these tools is estimated to decrease the amount of manual labour needed by as much as 80% during specific production phases where the tools are applied. Wang Feng, an evening gown supplier for Shein, said: "In the past, when we encountered styles with complex processes, we were often at a loss because there were no suitable solutions available on the market. Now, whenever we face a technical issue, Shein's professional team responds immediately. They tailor tools for us, provide step-by-step instructional videos, and even send engineers to our factory to ensure the problem is truly solved." Beyond tool development, Shein's CIGM has also focused on supplier capability-building through vocational training sessions and technical certification courses. In 2024 alone, the centre conducted 69 training sessions for over 1,200 participants from more than 1,000 suppliers. Additionally, 97 technical certification courses were offered, resulting in over 1,750 participants receiving certifications in areas such as quality inspection and assurance. The CIGM also provides strategic advice to suppliers on factory site selection, layout planning, and facility design to further enhance operational efficiency. In line with its commitment to industry collaboration for manufacturing transformation, Shein entered into strategic partnerships with Donghua University and Transfar Chemicals in the first half of 2025. In June this year, Shein set new objectives and initiatives for 2025 aimed at improving its product compliance and quality standards. Wang Feng denies split with influencer Li Qiao
24 Jun - Wang Feng has recently dismissed rumours that he and girlfriend, Li Qiao have called it quits on their relationship. The three-time married rock star, who started dating the influencer a year after his divorce from Zhang Ziyi, had everybody talking after he was seen holding hands with actress Ning Jing. It was reported that the team of "Wonderland" recently held a birthday party for the actress, who was escorted to the scene by Wang Feng. A photo of Wang holding Ning Jing's hand had since circulated online, sparking rumours that the relationship between Wang and Li Qiao has changed after one year. The "Wonderland" team had since addressed the rumours, saying that the event was planned by all the staff and hopes that people will be respectful. On the other hand, Wang took to social media on 22 June to post a photo of him and his girlfriend and reposted the statement released by "Wonderland" team, writing, "We are fine, stop speculating! Don't be misled by those marketing accounts that spread rumours. Sorry for occupying public resources for no reason." "Ning Jing, I'm sorry for causing you trouble. Zhang Ziyi shares photos with kids on Children's Day
4 Jun - It's been a while since Zhang Ziyi shared photos of her two kids, which made it a surprise to fans when she decided to post several images of her with her daughter and son on Weibo recently. On 1 June, the actress took to Weibo to commemorate the International Children's Day by sharing nine never-before-seen photos of her and her 9-year-old daughter Xingxing, and her 5-year-old son, whose name she never shared. She posted, "Every day spent with children is a gift from God... companionship is the best gift for children. Happy holidays my children, may your childhood be as colourful as a rainbow. Grow up healthy and happy." While Zhang happily shared photos of Xingxing with her face exposed, she seemed more protective of her son, whose photos she picked only revealed his back or the side of his face. Zhang tied the knot with rock singer Wang Feng back in 2015. The couple welcomed their first daughter together soon after, followed by their son in 2020. The couple ended their marriage in 2023. Jay Chou denies losing billions of yuan in gambling
13 Mar - Jay Chou's camp has dismissed speculations that the multihyphenate was the person previously named in a blind item about gambling debt. As reported on Mingpao, mainland China's rumour sites recently reported that a "top-tier male star" had gambled heavily in Macau for seven days straight, and even had to borrow an exorbitant amount of money for his gambling. The star, however, lost RMB 1.03 billion and had to mortgage his properties and private jets in Beijing and Shanghai to pay his debt. Netizens began to speculate the identity of the star, with Jay Chou and even Wang Feng being mentioned. However, some fans dismissed this, saying that Jay has been staying in Australia for the past month to work on his album and spend time with his family. On 11 March, his record company JVR Music finally released a statement denying the rumour, stating, "[There] was a trending search on Weibo about 'a top-tier male star gambling heavily in Macau' and other related news. Some netizens insinuated that the male star was our artiste, Jay Chou. The company hereby declares that all the content of the rumour has nothing to do with Jay Chou.
