Hundreds form human chains protesting against Waqf Act
Hyderabad: Hundreds of people formed human chains at various locations across the city on Sunday to oppose the Waqf Amendment Act-2025. The demonstrations organised under the banner 'Save Waqf' witnessed participation from community leaders, activists and concerned citizens. The protest was organised by the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and All-India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM). Protesters were seen wearing black armbands as a mark of dissent. AIMIM floor leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi joined the protest outside Owaisi Hospital in Santoshnagar, lending his voice gainst the Act and raised slogans like 'Waqf Bachao', 'Dastoor Bachao' and 'Hindustan Zindabad'. Speaking to the gathering, he called the Act 'unconstitutional and unjust', urging the government to withdraw it immediately. A massive human chain was formed at Charminar, attracting attention across the city. Many shop-owners and traders gathered to protest. Charminar MLA Mir Zulfiqar Ali participated. The protesters emphasised that the amendment Act threatens the sanctity and autonomy of Waqf properties, which are meant for community welfare. Protesters gathered in large numbers at Pillar No 212 in Rajendranagar and several other areas. The protests saw political backing from local representatives, with MLAs Majid Hussain (Nampally), Mohd Mubeen (Bahadurpura), Ahmed Balala (Malakpet), Kausar Mohiuddin (Karwan) and Jaffer Hussain Meraj (Yakutpura) protested in their respective constituencies and expressed solidarity with the demonstrators. They criticised the amendments, claiming they infringe on minority rights and Waqf autonomy. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and several other residents and shop-owners in the city on April 30 switched off lights of their homes and establishments to join the silent protest against the Act.

Waqf: Muslim JAC to organise march on May 31
Hyderabad: The Muslim Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Telangana and AP, under the banner of Tahreek Muslim Shabban, has informed a massive protest march in Hyderabad against the Centre's recently approved Wakf Amendment Bill. The 'Telangana March to Rollback Waqf Amendment Act-2025' will take place on May 31 at Dharna Chowk. The venue for the Telangana March was finalised during the core committee meeting of the JAC held recently at the head office of Tahreek Muslim Shabban in Azampura, Hyderabad. The announcement was made by JAC convenor and Tahreek Muslim Shabban president Mohammed Mushtaq Malik. He stated that people from all districts of Telangana would participate in the march, which aims to pressurise the central government to withdraw the controversial legislation. Mushtaq Malik said the march would be bigger than the anti-CAA and NRC protests held in 2019, which were among the largest peaceful agitations in the country. 'All political parties except the BJP, including the Congress, BRS, CPI, CPM, as well as leaders from religious institutions, educational bodies, and social organizations, are expected to join the march,' he said. The main objectives of the Telangana March are to ensure the protection of mosques, dargahs, khanqahs, Ashoorkhanas, graveyards, Waqf properties, religious schools (madrasas), and Eidgahs, which protesters believe are under threat due to the amendment. The protest is shaping up to be one of the largest demonstrations in recent times, with strong participation expected from both Muslims and non-Muslims who believe in preserving constitutional and minority rights.

Saini urges Punjab CM to depoliticise water sharing
Haryana chief minister Nayab Saini has strongly appealed to Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, urging him to cease the politicisation of the sensitive water-sharing issue between the two states. Emphasising the importance of compassion and hospitality, Saini referenced Punjab's rich history rooted in the teachings of great Gurus. He addressed the media at the BJP State Headquarters in Panchkula on Thursday. Saini criticised the Punjab government's recent actions as 'low-level politics' timed to coincide with upcoming elections, accusing them of using the dispute to divert attention from their lack of substantive public service. Directly addressing Mann, Saini advised him to utilise his remaining term in office constructively and avoid inciting farmers for political gain. He contrasted the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) current stance with their previous promises in Delhi, where he alleged, they were ultimately rejected by the electorate. The chief minister also highlighted the contradiction in the Punjab government's treatment of farmers, citing instances of both support and forceful suppression. He clarified that the water dispute centers on drinking water, a fundamental human need, rather than irrigation, and invoked the cultural tradition of providing water to all who seek it. Saini further emphasised the fraternal relationship between Haryana and Punjab, urging the AAP government not to create unnecessary divisions for political gain. He expressed concern over the potential waste of rainwater flowing towards Pakistan, suggesting that a collaborative approach would be more beneficial. He also addressed the recent changes within the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), dismissing them as routine administrative transfers. Saini concluded by reiterating the critical nature of drinking water access, stressing that it transcends political maneuvering and should be prioritised for the well-being of all citizens. Waqf reforms to benefit poor, says CM Saini Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini stated that the 'Waqf Amendment Act-2025' will play a crucial role in realising Prime Minister Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas, and Sabka Vishwas.' Speaking at the 'Waqf reform public awareness campaign conference' held at the BJP office in Panchkula on Thursday. He said that this law will benefit the poor, marginalised, and women of the Muslim community. Saini asserted that previously, the Waqf law was exploited by influential individuals, but now its benefits will reach the needy. He alleged that during the Congress regime, the benefits of Waqf properties were distributed among corrupt individuals, whereas now widows, divorced women, and orphans will also receive them. He accused the Congress of engaging in appeasement politics and turning the Waqf Board into a hub of scams. The chief minister hailed the Modi government's decision on caste-based census as historic and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister. He pointed out that the Congress had opposed the inclusion of caste in the 2011 census, but the Modi government has rectified their mistakes. BJP State President Pandit Mohan Lal Badoli said that the reforms in the Waqf law will secure the rights of the poor and curb corruption. He accused the opposition of misleading the public.
