Sophie Turner Says Playing ‘Lovers' with 'Game of Thrones' Brother Kit Harington in New Movie Was ‘Really Weird for All of Us'

Turner previously revealed that she was the one to recommend Harington for the roleNEED TO KNOW Sophie Turner and Kit Harington are reuniting on-screen for the first time since Game of Thrones The new gothic film The Dreadful sees the actors starring as romantic interests for each other, which Turner said is "really weird for all of us" Turner and Harington played siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow for all eight seasons of Game of ThronesSophie Turner and Kit Harington's on-screen reunion might be a bit weird for Game of Thrones fans. Turner and Harington starred as siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow, respectively, on the hit HBO series for eight seasons. They've teamed up again for a gothic horror film set against the 15th-century War of the Roses. The Dreadful sees Turner's character Anne's life changed when Harington, playing a figure from her past, returns. The catch is: Turner and Harington's characters are romantically involved in the new film. "I did a movie last year which I'm really excited about with my old but very good friend Kit Harington, who played my brother on Game of Thrones." Turner, 29, said in an interview with Vogue published on Wednesday, July 16, while discussing her new film. "We're doing a gothic horror," she said. "But we play lovers." Turner then apologized, likely to Game of Thrones fans, as she said, "It's really weird for all of us." Turner was the one responsible for Harington being cast alongside her in the upcoming horror film. Weird as it might be, Harington, 38, has the actress to thank for his role in the film. 'They were trying to find someone for that role, and I was like, 'You can't not have Kit,'' Turner told The Times in a story published in September 2024. 'It's set around the time of the Wars of the Roses, so we'll probably be floating about in robes on clifftops again,' she explained. The pair's casting was announced in February 2024, and Turner shared an Instagram post celebrating the news. "I mean we couldn't NOT hang out again ya know 🤷‍♀️ #thedreadful," she wrote. She recently said that "everything" she's "learned" is thanks to her time on During a recent appearance on the Dish podcast, the Joan star said that the series "informed my entire life in terms of like business decisions, just etiquette on set, how to act." 'I never had proper formal training, so I got to learn from the amazing actors around me, which I felt like I won a competition," she said of her costars, which included Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Maisie Williams. "But it was great. We all were a family.' Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. After nine years playing Sansa, Turner said of her character, "It felt like we kind of merged into one person by the end of it. But it was amazing." Sophie Turner says playing 'lovers' with 'Game of Thrones' brother Kit Harington was 'really weird' in new movie

The reunion we've all been waiting for — but with a very different dynamic. Sophie Turner is issuing a warning about her onscreen reunion with Kit Harington. After starring as half-siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow across eight seasons of Game of Thrones, the duo are next teaming up for The Dreadful, a gothic horror film set against the 15th-century War of the Roses. Fans will no doubt be thrilled to see the actors share the screen once more — but Turner wants everyone to be prepared for a dynamic that's a tad different. "I did a movie last year which I'm really excited about with my old but very good friend Kit Harington, who played my brother on Game of Thrones," Turner, 29, told Vogue in a Wednesday video. "We're doing a gothic horror… but we play lovers." With a grimace, Turner offered her apologies to those who watched them star as siblings on the HBO drama, adding, "Sorry, guys. It's really weird for all of us." To be fair, Thrones fans are more than accustomed to uncomfortable undertones of incest. In fact, fans were abuzz about the romantic potential between Sansa and Jon throughout the show's final seasons, especially after — — they were revealed to be cousins rather than siblings. In a 2016 chat with Access Hollywood, Turner joked, "Things could happen, things couldn't happen. They are cousins and it is Game of Thrones." But at the time, she added that sharing romantic scenes with Harington would be impossible: "I could not do that with Kit," she said. "There's no way I could do those kind of scenes with Kit— I'd laugh way too much." Less than a decade later, The Dreadful will see Turner play Anne, an outsider who lives with her mother-in-law on the fringes of society when her harsh and solitary life is suddenly upended by the presence of a man (Harington) from their past, who sets off a sequence of events that become a turning point for Anne. Despite the awkwardness of playing a love interest to her former onscreen brother/cousin, Turner previously admitted that she encouraged producers to consider Harington for the part. "They were trying to find someone for that role, and I was like, 'You can't not have Kit,'" she told the Sunday Times last year. "It's set around the time of the Wars of the Roses, so we'll probably be floating about in robes on clifftops again." The story also has another Thrones connection — the 15th century conflict that served as its backdrop was also a primary inspiration for George R.R. Martin while writing the Song of Ice and Fire series on which Game of Thrones is film, which wrapped production last year, is also set to star Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O'Fuarain, and Jonathan Howard. The Dreadful hails from Lucky and Abraham's Boys director Natasha Kermani, who also penned the script. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly Solve the daily Crossword
