Sophie Turner says playing 'lovers' with 'Game of Thrones' brother Kit Harington was 'really weird' in new movie

Yahoo18-07-2025
The reunion we've all been waiting for — but with a very different dynamic.
Sophie Turner is issuing a warning about her onscreen reunion with Kit Harington.
After starring as half-siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow across eight seasons of Game of Thrones, the duo are next teaming up for The Dreadful, a gothic horror film set against the 15th-century War of the Roses. Fans will no doubt be thrilled to see the actors share the screen once more — but Turner wants everyone to be prepared for a dynamic that's a tad different.
"I did a movie last year which I'm really excited about with my old but very good friend Kit Harington, who played my brother on Game of Thrones," Turner, 29, told Vogue in a Wednesday video. "We're doing a gothic horror… but we play lovers."
With a grimace, Turner offered her apologies to those who watched them star as siblings on the HBO drama, adding, "Sorry, guys. It's really weird for all of us."
To be fair, Thrones fans are more than accustomed to uncomfortable undertones of incest. In fact, fans were abuzz about the romantic potential between Sansa and Jon throughout the show's final seasons, especially after — — they were revealed to be cousins rather than siblings.
In a 2016 chat with Access Hollywood, Turner joked, "Things could happen, things couldn't happen. They are cousins and it is Game of Thrones."
But at the time, she added that sharing romantic scenes with Harington would be impossible: "I could not do that with Kit," she said. "There's no way I could do those kind of scenes with Kit— I'd laugh way too much."
Less than a decade later, The Dreadful will see Turner play Anne, an outsider who lives with her mother-in-law on the fringes of society when her harsh and solitary life is suddenly upended by the presence of a man (Harington) from their past, who sets off a sequence of events that become a turning point for Anne.
Despite the awkwardness of playing a love interest to her former onscreen brother/cousin, Turner previously admitted that she encouraged producers to consider Harington for the part.
"They were trying to find someone for that role, and I was like, 'You can't not have Kit,'" she told the Sunday Times last year. "It's set around the time of the Wars of the Roses, so we'll probably be floating about in robes on clifftops again."
The story also has another Thrones connection — the 15th century conflict that served as its backdrop was also a primary inspiration for George R.R. Martin while writing the Song of Ice and Fire series on which Game of Thrones is based. The film, which wrapped production last year, is also set to star Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O'Fuarain, and Jonathan Howard. The Dreadful hails from Lucky and Abraham's Boys director Natasha Kermani, who also penned the script.

Comedian Bobby Lee theorizes he was one of the 'woke elements' cut from 'Sex and the City' spinoff

Stand-up comedian Bobby Lee said over the weekend that he believes he was cut from the "Sex and the City" spin-off to remove wokeness from the series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW) at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Lee theorized that he wasn't brought back for the third season of "And Just Like That…" because producers were looking to get rid of the show's more "woke elements." "Some of the woke elements of the show, they got rid of, and I think I was a part of that. I think Sara [Ramirez] didn't come back and some other people," he said, mentioning his series co-star, who played actress Cynthia Nixon's non-binary love interest in the show. "They tried to put minorities in, and — I don't know. I never saw the show," he added. Lee played Jackie Nee, the co-host of Carrie Bradshaw's podcast, for the first two seasons of the HBO Max series. At the end of the second season, Bradshaw – played by Sarah Jessica Parker – left her podcast to focus on writing her novel. Her team of coworkers did not return for the follow-up season. HBO director of media relations, Erin Tresco, disputed Lee's theory that he was a victim of woke cuts. She told Fox News Digital that the reason Lee left the show was that "Carrie is no longer hosting a podcast, and instead focused on her novel, the storyline of characters involved in the podcast came to a conclusion." The comedian had only good things to say about Parker and his former cast mates, telling EW, "Sarah Jessica Parker is the nicest person I've ever met. She made me feel so at ease. I like everyone on there. It was fun. I never have bad blood with anybody. You know what I mean? I am nice. I show up on time." Lee, a former star of MADtv, stand-up comedian, and popular podcaster, told EW he's not quite sure why he got the "And Just Like That…" role in the first place. "Number one, I don't even know why they asked," he said. "And I was super scared to do it. Because it wasn't my brand, really. You know what I mean? But I did it. I walked through the fear." Critics pointed out the woke elements of the "Sex and the City" follow-up when it debuted on the HBO streaming platform in 2021. At the time, The Guardian critic Lucy Mangan wrote that the show's "onslaught of 'woke' teachings lends the show a smugly self-congratulatory rather than ironically self-aware air. This does nothing to make it sing like the original, which – even if it was narrow and elite – knew its world inside out and could allow the comedy and the drama to arise in ways that felt effortless." The New York Times also skewered the show's woke themes, suggesting they were pandering. The outlet's TV critic, James Poniewozik, wrote in 2021 that the series' diverse newcomers "don't pass the racial Bechdel test; they exist only in relation to the central trio, serving to challenge or affirm them while reassuring them and us that they're trying hard and mean well." Representatives for Lee did not immediately reply to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

What Will Happen When Everyone Returns to Genoa City on Young and the Restless?

The Genoa City crew has been in Nice for many weeks. So much has happened, but the GC residents have no idea. Everyone in Nice has no access to cell or internet service. Cane made sure they were sufficiently cut off from the world. But eventually, they will have to return at some point. The Young and the Restless head writer Josh Griffith gave a look at what's next. Change Man? Cane (Billy Flynn) claims that he's changed. He's no longer the scheming guy who's up to no good. But everyone else would beg to differ, especially his ex-wife Lily (Christel Khalil). Griffith told Soap Opera Digest that Cane has some work to do when everyone returns to Genoa City. READ THIS: Cane pleaded innocence on Y&R. He will have to prove that he's a good guy. Lily isn't the only one who can't trust him. No one is sure what to make of him. 'Not only is Cane having to contend with everyone's reaction to his deception, but the party guests are now accusing him of murder,' Griffith said. It's not a good look. Damian (Jermaine Rivers) was found dying in Cane's arms. The same Damian who was romancing Lily. Even Amanda (Mishael Morgan) doesn't want to help Cane. Explaining To Do Cane believes that someone has it out for him. Now, he's not the only one who's in danger. He put all of his guests in danger, too. We're still convinced that Cane entrapped his guests at the French estate. Griffith teased that the killer is out for more than one person. 'It's safe to say that danger continues to loom in a big way, putting our core characters in serious jeopardy,' he added. READ NEXT: Cane faces scrutiny over Damian's death on Y&R. Even if the killer is found, Cane still has to make amends. He's been snapping up properties, and he has eyes on everyone's companies. He will have to prove that he's a changed man. And making matters worse is that several of his opponents may team up to take him down,' Griffith shared. Solve the daily Crossword

Fans Predict Heartbroken Lily Finds Love and Comfort with This Y&R Hunk

Heartache has once again hit Lily on The Young and the Restless. Her beau Damian was killed during their trip to France. Lily is grief-stricken now, but she'll eventually find love again, and fans think it'll be with this man. Taking a Chance on Love Lily's (Christel Khalil) life has been turned upside down since arriving in France. She was stunned to discover Aristotle Dumas was her ex-husband, Cane (Billy Flynn). Cane made it clear he still loves Lily, but she put the kibosh on a reunion. Lily was ready to move on with Damian (Jermaine Rivers) until tragedy struck. Damian was killed by a knife to the back, launching a murder mystery. As Chance (Conner Floyd) begins his investigation, Lily is someone who'll provide assistance. Lily is certain Cane is responsible for Damian's death and wants him to pay. Right now, romance is the last thing on Lily's mind. However, that could change with her and Chance working on the case. On X, fans believe that Lily and Chance have potential as a couple. 'Chance and Lily have a little spark? Right?' asked one user. Another fan was on board with the idea. 'Lily and Chance would be an interesting pairing. But probably won't be happening since he's leaving.' Although a Lane reunion is being foreshadowed, Lily moving on to someone like Chance would be refreshing. Chance has been single for a while and needs a love interest. Having him date Lily would bring some family awkwardness. Lily's brother Devon (Bryton James) is married to Chance's ex-wife, Abby (Melissa Ordway), so Dabby will probably feel uncomfortable with the relationship. Plus, let's not forget Cane, who'll be upset with the romance. He enlisted the detective to protect him, but Chance stealing Lily will create tension between the two men. Got a juicy soap forecast?
