Polestar 3 EV recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records

A professional driving team has managed to drive a Polestar 3 SUV for a record distance of 935 kilometres on a single charge in a recent test, which has now been recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records. The record was achieved by three drivers over a period of 23 hours and covered a loop around Southern England in mixed conditions, both in terms of weather and traffic. Before we conclude that this finally means the end of range anxiety, however, it should be noted that the three drivers are employed by Webfleet, a company that advises fleet vehicle operators on reducing fuel consumption. The drivers are known as "professional efficiency drivers." Unlike most drivers, these professionals are trained to employ several techniques to boost fuel efficiency. I've driven in such tests before, and they're not easy to adapt to. They involve avoiding harsh acceleration and braking, coasting without acceleration when possible, anticipating traffic conditions, using cruise control when possible and generally trying to coax the car to be as energy efficient as possible. One of the drivers, Sam Clarke, told Auto Express magazine that this journey record is more relevant than an outright range record because "it's the closest thing to the real world, on proper roads at proper speeds". He admitted, however, that achieving this range is not easy. "We're not suggesting for a second that everybody can achieve the same ranges that we did, but we did exceed the WLTP figures by some margin, so it just shows what's possible. Driving a little bit more efficiently – which ultimately equates to just moving your right foot a few less millimetres each time – can actually generate significant amounts of range", he told Autocar. The attempt took 22 hours and 57 minutes to complete in mixed weather conditions, including rain, and the Polestar 3 achieved an efficiency of 12.1 kWh/100 km. The three drivers took three-hour shifts behind the wheel. The overall consumption was 12.1 kWh per 100 kilometres, which is what you might expect from something much smaller and lighter than the 2.4 tonnes of weight the Polestar 3 has to carry. It ran for a further 12.8 kilometres after the range indicator reached zero. The car had the extended range battery and was unmodified in any way. It also ran on standard 20" wheels with Michelin 4 EV tyres. The record was adjudicated by a Guinness World Records judge. Webfleet provided "meticulously documented and independently verified video footage, odometer readings, GPS readings, and battery level data."

'We drove nearly 600 miles on a single charge in standard EV - here's how'

A team of drivers beat the car's published range by a stretch A team of drivers have smashed the world record for the longest distance travelled by an electric SUV on a single charge. The Polestar 3, a large electric SUV from Polestar, clocked up an impressive 581.3 miles (935.44km), easily surpassing its advertised range. ‌ The recently launched Long Range Single Motor model was put through its paces and exceeded the stated figure of 438 miles (706 km) by professional efficiency drivers Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker and Richard Parker in a gruelling test of endurance. The SUV achieved an efficiency of 19.5 kWh /100 miles (5.13 m/kWh) (12.1 kWh/100 km). ‌ Guinness World Records' own adjudicator, Paulina Sapinska, oversaw the event, with Webfleet, Bridgestone's fleet management solution, providing meticulously documented and independently verified video footage, odometer readings, GPS readings and battery level data. ‌ The car underwent no modifications for the attempt and was equipped with standard 20-inch wheels fitted with standard Michelin Sport 4 EV tyres. The attempt took 22 hours and 57 minutes to complete in mixed weather conditions, including rain, and the drivers rotated every three hours to maintain alertness. The Polestar 3 managed to achieve its WLTP figure of 438 miles with 20% of its battery capacity still intact, and even delivered an additional eight miles after indicating a 0% battery level - but it made it to a charger before ultimately coming to a halt. The AA was on hand to ensure safety and provide assistance if the vehicle wasn't near a charger when the battery finally depleted. Polestar UK's managing director, Matt Galvin, said: "While Kevin, Sam and Richard pushed the Polestar 3 to the boundaries of its range capability, it goes to show how battery range has improved exponentially over the past few years. For a large luxury SUV to go way beyond a London to Edinburgh distance is truly impressive. ‌ "When this achievement is coupled together with real-world independent tests such as Norway's El Prix winter range test earlier in the year where the Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor won against 23 other electric vehicles, it goes to show: long distances are perfectly achievable with minimal fuss. "Add to this rapid charging with up to 250kW allowing a 10-80% charge in 30 minutes, the adage that 'EVs can't go far' has been very much consigned to the history books." ‌ Sam Clarke said: "Since we first started setting records, we have noticed how much more driving it is taking to achieve them! While we aim to push the car to the limits the car is also pushing us to our limits. I am pleased to be setting the first electric SUV journey record, and to do it in such a capable EV like the Polestar 3 has been a real pleasure." Kevin Booker said: "Setting this record alongside Sam and Richard is a great achievement – especially in a large SUV such as the Polestar 3. There's always jeopardy, and our attempt could have been hampered by the adverse weather conditions and traffic we experienced – there was a lot of standing water during part of the day, meaning more resistance from the tyres and lower efficiency. "But, finishing up on 0% at nearly one o'clock in the morning knowing we'd beaten previous records was a fantastic feeling!" Richard Parker said: "After the rain subsided, we had a few more challenges on our hands, including some interest from the local constabulary. When they realised our official attempt was ultra-efficiency, and they had wished us good luck - we were back on track and getting into our routine of driving shifts until a last-minute road closure near Melton Mowbray was an additional test for us to face. "It was another proof point that the record isn't just down to the driver, but also the passenger – quick-thinking co-pilot navigation was just as vital as battery management for this attempt."

Polestar 3 sets Guinness World Record for longest electric SUV range

The Polestar 3 has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest journey by an electric SUV on a single charge, covering 935.44km in a single trip. The record attempt used the recently launched long-range single motor variant and took 22 hours and 57 minutes to complete in mixed weather conditions that included rain. The SUV achieved an efficiency of 12.1kWh/100km. Professional efficiency drivers Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker and Richard Parker rotated every three hours to maintain alertness. The Polestar 3 reached its WLTP-rated range of 706km with 20% battery remaining and was able to travel an additional 12.8km after the battery reached 0%, stopping only once it reached a charger. According to Polestar, the attempt was conducted using a standard production vehicle with no modifications, running on 20" wheels with Michelin Sport 4 EV tyres. Guinness World Records judge Paulina Sapinska oversaw the attempt, which was independently verified with video footage, GPS data, odometer readings and battery logs provided by Webfleet. 'We are proud to say we have a world record holder in the Polestar family,' said Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller. 'This official Guinness World Record for range is another proof point that Polestar 3 is setting new standards. We will continue to push the boundaries of technology and electric performance.'

Alcaline Transport in tie-up with Webfleet

Alcaline Transport, a Kent-based European haulage operator, has announced a major investment in Webfleet, Bridgestone's fleet management solution, to boost trailer visibility, improve compliance, and enhance operational efficiency across its 200-trailer network. The company, known for its time-critical logistics services for the automotive and aviation sectors, including clients such as Rolls-Royce, Jaguar Land Rover, and Aston Martin, chose Webfleet for its integrated platform capabilities and real-time vehicle tracking. According to a company press release, the adoption of Webfleet will allow Alcaline to better meet its just-in-time delivery commitments, especially when transporting urgent stock from across Europe to the UK. 'Time really is money when you're manufacturing cars,' said Andrew Jerome, Transport Manager at Alcaline. 'With Webfleet, we can now pinpoint exactly where our trailers are, making us far more agile and responsive to last-minute client demands.' The Webfleet solution includes truck and trailer tracking, tachograph management, vehicle safety checks, and camera integration, with plans to integrate it further into Alcaline's routing and scheduling systems. 'We wanted a fully integrated fleet management solution with a single login and interface,' Jerome added. 'Webfleet met this demand and much more.' Alcaline worked with Fleet Trak, a local fleet technology specialist and Webfleet premium partner, to install the system. Fleet Trak also provided training and ongoing support. 'This is an excellent example of how Webfleet's investment in technology is delivering value to fleet operators through a single, adaptable platform,' said Jonny Wiggins of Fleet Trak. Webfleet's multilingual features are proving vital for Alcaline's diverse driver base, which includes staff from Spain, Italy, Poland, and Romania. 'If a driver is stopped for a spot check in Italy, Webfleet can automatically provide an infringement letter translated into Italian, which can help avoid fines,' explained Jerome. The Webfleet driver app also supports digital vehicle safety checks, with alerts routed directly to the workshop team. Additional integrations include axle weighing to detect overloaded trailers and EPBMS to monitor brake performance, keeping Alcaline compliant with the UK's new DVSA quarterly brake test requirement. Weekly management information (MI) reports generated by Webfleet highlight anomalies such as above-average fuel usage, helping Jerome's team quickly address inefficiencies. 'Webfleet is like another team member running in the background, efficient, automated, and error-free,' Jerome noted. 'It's revolutionised the way we do things and helped us deliver even higher standards of customer service.'
