Dangerous moment laser targets police helicopter flying over city
A police helicopter was targeted by a green laser while flying over Liverpool in the early hours of Friday, 18 July. The National Police Air Service (NPAS) aircraft, en route to an incident, reported that their aircraft was being targeted from an address in West Derby. Air traffic control at Liverpool John Lennon Airport reported that flights into Liverpool had also been targeted. The NPAS helicopter returned to the area and identified an address on Haydn Road. Two teenagers, aged 16 and 13, were arrested on suspicion of shining or directing a laser beam into an aircraft and have been taken into custody. Captain Paul Watts, Head of Flight Operations at NPAS, said: 'We cannot overstate just how reckless it is to distract a pilot and crew with a laser. 'It is a serious offence. Our crews can pinpoint where a laser strike comes from."

Police search for man after shots fired at front door of home
An investigation has begun after reports of a man firing a gun through the front door of a home in Liverpool. Merseyside Police said the house on Leyfield Road in West Derby was occupied but no one was hurt in the incident at about 20:10 BST on force said detectives were trying to track down a man wearing a balaclava and dark clothing, seen riding at Sur-Ron bike, who they suspect had fired at the home.A police spokesman said the "reckless act" could have had fatal consequences. Several roads in the area have been closed as police carry out inquiries into what Insp Chris Saidi said the occupier of the home had been left "badly shaken" by the incident, but nobody was injured. He said: "This is not acceptable behaviour and we will do everything within our powers to find who the person is and bring him to justice."The force has urged anyone with information or CCTV and doorbell footage of the shooting to get in have also asked taxi and delivery drivers who were in the area of Leyfield Road at the time to get in touch if they have any information about the suspect. UK man appears in court over Liverpool parade crash that injured 79
A British man appeared in court on Friday charged with causing grievous bodily harm after a car ploughed into a crowd of Liverpool soccer fans injuring almost 80 during this week's Premier League title victory parade. Advertisement Paul Doyle, from the West Derby area of Liverpool, is charged with seven offences including dangerous driving and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The 53-year-old appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Friday morning and confirmed his name, address and date of birth. Prosecutor Philip Astbury told the court: 'These charges arise from events around about 6pm on May 26 … in the city centre. 'As significant crowds left the waterfront after the parade for the local football team, this defendant, say the crown (prosecution), drove deliberately at people among the crowd as they tried to leave the area.' The 53-year-old appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Friday morning and confirmed his name, address and date of birth before the case was briefly adjourned. The incident took place in Liverpool's packed city centre on Monday evening, as around a million people had come out to celebrate Liverpool's Premier League win and watch an open-top bus parade the team and its staff with the trophy.
