What lies beneath this real-life horror story

The 2000 Hollywood thriller What Lies Beneath might not have been Robert Zemeckis' finest work — a few cheap jump scares, quickly forgotten. But the real horror playing out beneath South Australia's normally pristine waters is far from fiction. It's truly terrifying. Aside from the COVID-19 pandemic, it's hard to recall a crisis in our state of this scale and gravity. A kilometres-long stretch of coastline is blanketed in thick brown foam and sludge. Entire beaches — usually teeming with swimmers, walkers, frolicking dogs and kids building sandcastles — now sit empty (because, let's face it, most of us are avoiding them like the plague). But dive deeper and the true devastation emerges. Below the surface, marine life is suffocating. Choking. Dying. Our ocean has become an underwater graveyard. Marine ecosystems so devastated, any sign of recovery seems to be drifting further away by the day. The images pouring into the Channel 7 newsroom in Adelaide are nothing short of heartbreaking. Our cameras are documenting the carnage and South Australians are sending us more every single day. Photos and videos of fish, dolphins, rays, crabs, penguins and even sharks washed up lifeless on our shores. And don't get me started on that poor fur seal found slumped gasping for air on the footpath in Brighton. Was it was trying to flee rough seas or was it another casualty of the algal bloom? We're told it's a natural event. We know it's a disaster. But somehow, in this case, one plus one doesn't equal two. Canberra still refuses to formally declare this crisis a natural disaster. The mind boggles. The blood boils and what about the South Australians whose livelihoods depend on the ocean? Our tourism operators, commercial fishers, fishmongers. They're not just watching the environment collapse, they're feeling the financial impact. And they're hurting. Will it get worse? Will our beaches be off-limits this summer? Can we safely eat what's left of the catch? Will government inaction today haunt us tomorrow? Past mismanagement, present crisis and a community demanding answers. What lies beneath? The truth, still buried.

Got a Geeky Tattoo You Hate? Here's What The Laser Removal Process Looks Like

One of the best ways to show off your love for being part of a certain fandom is with a geeky tattoo. But what happens if your tattoo artist did a poor job, you've grown out of something you used to love, or you just don't like your tattoo anymore? Enter laser tattoo removal. Getting a tattoo removed is a process that typically takes years, so you'll need to be prepared to be in it for the long run. If you decide that this is the right option for you, we're breaking down exactly what's involved in the process in this guide. How Laser Tattoo Removal Works Let's start by looking at the science behind laser tattoo removal. During your sessions, your skin will be treated with a laser , which targets ink particles and breaks them down so the body can flush them out. There are a few different types of lasers, including Q-switched and picosecond lasers, with different ones being best for targeting different ink colors. Laser tattoo removal is a gradual process, and it usually takes 6–12 sessions, spaced several weeks or even months apart, for the ink to break down. What Happens During a Session When you arrive at a laser tattoo removal clinic, the laser technician will get you sitting or lying comfortably on the treatment bed, give you a pair of goggles (to protect your eyes from the laser beam), and count you down to the treatment. The laser feels a bit like the snap of a rubber band or stinging, like hot oil splashing on your skin. It can be quite an intense feeling, but when you're getting treatment at a reputable laser clinic like Lone Star Tattoo Removal , the process will be as quick and efficient as possible. The session length depends on your tattoo size, but for most people, it'll be over within just a couple of minutes. Aftercare and Recovery How you treat your tattoo post-treatment can affect the healing process and your likelihood of scarring, so make sure to follow your laser technician's advice carefully. You'll need to avoid direct sun exposure for five weeks after the session to prevent it from blistering. You'll probably also be advised to keep the area clean and dry and avoid showering in hot water for the first 24 hours. In terms of what the healing process looks like, you'll likely see some redness and swelling up to a week after treatment, possibly also bleeding after your later sessions when the laser intensity is increased. Final Word: Alternatives to Full Removal If getting a tattoo removed sounds a bit scary or like too much commitment for you, you might want to look at other options instead of a full removal. One option is to get a couple of laser sessions to partially fade your tattoo, so you can then book in a cover-up tattoo . Or, if you don't hate the design, see how you can incorporate new art to make it more suited to your current tastes. TV Review: NAUTILUS Episode 3, 'What Lies Beneath'

"What Lies Beneath" TV Series in Works

Yara Sameh Robert Zemeckis' 2000 supernatural horror thriller "What Lies Beneath," starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer, is heading to the small screen as the latest Hollywood blockbuster to be getting a TV adaptation. The synopsis for the movie reads: "It had been a year since Dr. Norman Spencer (Harrison Ford) betrayed his beautiful wife Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer). But with Claire oblivious to the truth, Norman's life and marriage seem so perfect that when Claire tells him of hearing mysterious voices and seeing a young woman's image in their home, he dismisses her terror as delusion. Claire moves closer to the truth and it becomes clear that this apparition will not be dismissed, and has come back for Dr. Spencer and his beautiful wife." Mark Johnson, who is well known for producing features like The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy, Rain Man, The Notebook and more, said the property as one of several projects being considered for TV adaptation. We're very excited about the idea of maybe doing a television show — I'm not sure I should say this but I'm going to — our movie What Lies Beneath, that could lend itself to a very good, perhaps limited, perhaps not, TV show," he told Deadline . Johnson has been part of the production team for some of AMC's biggest hits over the last two decades, and that doesn't seem about to change as he has recently penned a renewal of his first-look deal with AMC Studios. Currently, one of his biggest roles is overseeing the Anne Rice universe that has delivered "Interview With the Vampire" and "The Mayfair Witches", and even as he turns 80 this year, the producer has no plans to step away from making shows he loves. He added in his interview: 'Why wouldn't I be at AMC? They truly celebrate the story. You look at the success they've had, it is still very much the leader and the benchmark: good writing, good characters and good television.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan
