Whataburger brings back fan favorite not seen in 4 years. When can you get it?

A Whataburger fan-favorite is staging a comeback after more than four years. The pico de gallo burger returns for a limited time Tuesday, June 3, at participating Whataburger restaurants nationwide, according to the Texas-based burger chain. The sandwich — featuring a beef patty topped with pico de gallo, pepper jack cheese and a creamy cilantro lime sauce — will head back to menus as part of the brand's 75th anniversary celebration, Whataburger said in a news release. It was last offered in late June 2020. Customers can swap the beef for a crispy chicken patty, if they prefer, the chain said. Pricing information wasn't immediately available. The pico de gallo burger is the latest item to come out of the 'WhataVault' in recent months. The Monterey Melt and chicken fajita taco returned for a limited-time run in January, followed by other menu favorites including the mushroom Swiss burger and banana pudding milkshake, McClatchy News reported. It marked the shake's first comeback since it was last offered in 2023, Whataburger said at the time. Customers can find the pico de gallo burger in-restaurant and online for a limited time, though Whataburger did not say for how long. Find your nearest Whataburger here.

Texas-based Whataburger opens first NC location in Gastonia

Big news for burger fans -- the Texas-based fast food chain Whataburger is opening Thursday in North Carolina. Whataburger's first location in Gastonia is just off of E. Franklin Boulevard, and they told our partners at the Charlotte Observer that they're expecting a big crowd for their 9 a.m. opening. The restaurant will be open 24 hours a day. The chain plans to open a total of 10 locations in North Carolina by the end of the year. While it's the first Whataburger in North Carolina, it's not to be confused with What-A-Burger No. 13 -- that's a local restaurant with locations in Locust and Mount Pleasant. Whataburger is suing the local chain over alleged trademark infringement, but What-A-Burger says its name and branding are different from the national restaurant. Whataburger first opened in 1950 in Texas and has since expanded to 16 states, including North Carolina and South Carolina. The third Whataburger coming to Knoxville will be in Turkey Creek at 310 Wild Geese Road. The restaurant also will replace a Steak n' Shake, which closed in 2024.
