Ballito Dolphins juniors cap excellent year at season-ending prizegiving
The Ballito Dolphins Junior Rugby Club wrapped up a sensational 2025 season with a vibrant recent prizegiving ceremony at Simbithi. The event drew a large crowd of proud families and friends who came together to celebrate the emergence of the Dolphins as a real force in KZN rugby. 'I want to wish a huge congratulations to all our young Dolphins on an outstanding season,' said club chairman, Quinton Nagel. The Dolphins' U10 and U11 teams continued their dominant form, both finishing the season undefeated – a streak they've maintained for two and three consecutive years, respectively. Across 11 match-day weekends, the Junior Dolphins never lost more than three games in any age group, underscoring the depth and consistency of the club's talent. A standout moment of the season came when the U9 mini-Dolphins secured their first-ever win over long-time rivals Crusaders Rugby Club from Durban North. The historic victory took place at Umhlali Preparatory School on the final day of the season. 'The boys have been incredible and it's fantastic to see their hard work and dedication recognised,' said Nagel. During the prizegiving, every player received a participation certificate and a medal. Individual accolades for U5, U7 and U8 teams were for most improved and most valuable players of the year, while the U9s, U10s and U11s were awarded best forward and backline and most improved players of the year. 'We're already looking forward to the next one and can't wait to see what the future holds for these talented youngsters,' added Nagel. 'I want to thank the coaches, parents, and the players. Let's keep the Dolphins spirit alive and come back stronger next year.' Stay in the loop with The North Coast Courier on Facebook, X, Instagram & YouTube for the latest news. #TrafficAlert: Parts of N2 and M13 to close for King Cetshwayo bridge demolition The N2 between Springfield Park (Umgeni Interchange) and Spaghetti Junction (EB Cloete Interchange) will close in both directions from Saturday night until Monday morning. A further closure will be in place on the M13 between 45th Cutting and Westwood Mall (Essex Terrace Interchange) to accommodate the partial demolition of the King Cetshwayo Bridge, which carries the M13 over the N2. Both closures will be in place simultaneously from 6pm on Saturday, June 21, until 4am on Monday, June 23. 'Construction continues on the upgraded King Cetshwayo Bridge, following its partial demolition in October 2023,' said SANRAL's Provincial Specialist Geometrics Engineer, Jason Lowe. 'This closure is part of the ongoing upgrade process for the N2 and the EB Cloete Interchange, aimed at relieving congestion and improving road safety along this critical national route.' Motorists are urged to plan for alternative routes during the closure. Full Closure Locations N2 Closure Locations (at EB Cloete Interchange): N3 West Bound (Durban to Pinetown): Ramp to N2 North closed (towards Umhlanga/King Shaka International Airport). N3 East Bound (Pinetown to Durban): Ramp to N2 North closed. N2 Northbound: Closed between EB Cloete Interchange and Umgeni Road Interchange. N2 Closure Locations (at Umgeni Road Interchange): N2 Southbound: Closed between Umgeni Road Interchange and EB Cloete Interchange. Detour onto M19/Umgeni Road. M13 West Bound: Closed at 45th Avenue (also known as 45th Cutting). 'We understand that these road closures cause major travel disruption so we have minimised the length of the closures and planned them to take place at times when the traffic disruption will be at its least,' said Lowe. 'Trucks and heavy vehicles are advised to try and delay trips over this period, find suitable staging areas or reroute via the M4, M7 or M19 to avoid congestion. Public transport operators are asked to ensure their drivers are aware of route closures and alternatives affecting their commuter routes.' Find a full list of alternative routes here. N3 to close for three days at Ashburton, near Pietermaritzburg, next month
N3 to close for three days at Ashburton, near Pietermaritzburg, next month The N3 highway will be completely closed to traffic in both directions at Ashburton over the weekend of May 9-11. The 9.2km stretch of national highway between the Lynnfield (Lion Park) and Market Road interchanges will be closed from May 9 at 8pm until May 11 at 5am. Closures are being done to allow for the demolition of the Ashburton (Pope Ellis Drive) bridge. Pope Ellis Drive will remain open during the demolition process with a stop-and-go system in place. An alternative route for the highway closure is available via the R103, which runs parallel to the N3 and also connects the Lynnfield and Market Road interchanges. 'Significant delays are likely to be experienced as the R103 cannot handle the same traffic volumes as the N3,' said SANRAL KZN provincial specialist geometrics engineer, Jason Lowe. 'Motorists, especially heavy goods vehicles, are urged to reschedule their trips to avoid travelling during the closure.' 'If travel is unavoidable, please allow enough extra time to account for the delays. SANRAL wishes to apologise to the motoring public for any inconvenience caused.' The closure may need to be adjusted depending on weather conditions and SANRAL will keep the public advised of any changes via their social media platforms. Full road closure schedule May 9 2025, 8pm-Midnight – Close N3 and proceed to demolish the Ashburton bridge. May 10 2025, Midnight-Midnight (full 24 hours) – Complete N3 road closure for continued demolition of the bridge. May 11 2025, Midnight-5am – Complete demolition, clean and reopen the N3 to all traffic. Stay in the loop with The North Coast Courier on Facebook, X, Instagram & YouTube for the latest news.
