Lorde Asks ‘Who's Gonna Love Me Like This?' in Bare ‘Man of the Year' Music Video Teaser
Lorde is getting ready to ask some tough questions on her new single 'Man of the Year,' which the singer announced is coming out Wednesday (May 28) while dropping a music video teaser on Instagram. In a clip from the visual posted one day prior to the track's release, a topless Lorde spins around in a swivel chair and looks down at her bare chest. 'Who's gonna love me like this?' she sings in a snippet of the song. 'Who could get me like this, when he flow down through me?' More from Billboard Everything We Know About Lorde's 'Virgin' So Far Morgan Wallen's 'I'm the Problem' & 'What I Want' With Tate McRae Launch Atop Billboard's Country Charts Post Malone Brings Out NBA Legend Allen Iverson for 'White Iverson' Performance in Philadelphia 'M.O.T.Y. Tomorrow late New York time,' the New Zealand native captioned the post. 'Written in blood.' The teaser comes more than a week after Lorde first announced that 'Man of the Year' would serve as the second single from June-slated album Virgin, following lead track 'What Was That,' which dropped in April. In her recent Rolling Stone cover story, the Grammy winner shared that she wrote 'Man of the Year' about her own broadening gender identity, which she says fell into place after she stopped taking oral contraceptives. 'I felt like stopping taking my birth control, I had cut some sort of cord between myself and this regulated femininity,' she told the publication. 'It sounds crazy, but I felt that all of a sudden, I was off the map of femininity. And I totally believed that that allowed things to open up.' Just before writing 'Man of the Year' — which Lorde has also said is her 'favorite' track on Virgin — the star taped her chest down with duct tape in an effort to realize a vision of herself 'that was fully representative of how [her] gender felt in that moment,' she told Rolling Stone. She appears that way on the cover art for 'Man of the Year,' wearing nothing but the silver tape and a pair of jeans. Elsewhere in the interview, Lorde confirmed that she still uses 'she' and 'her' pronouns, but some days feels more like a man than a woman. '[Chappell Roan] asked me this … She was like, 'So, are you nonbinary now?'' she recalled to the publciation. 'I was like, 'I'm a woman except for the days when I'm a man.' I know that's not a very satisfying answer, but there's a part of me that is really resistant to boxing it up.' See Lorde's 'Man of the Year' teaser below. Zak Starkey Clarifies That He Was Not Fired From The Who (Twice) But Rather ‘Retired'
The see-saw story of The Who's drummer chair continued to tilt over the weekend when former, then current and then former again time keeper Zak Starkey clarified that he had not been fired from the band but rather 'retired.' The 59-year-old son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and in-demand session player wrote in an Instagram post on Monday (May 26) that he'd had a nice chat with singer Roger Daltrey clarifying what appeared to be his recent second sacking in as many months. 'NOISE&CONFUSION!!!! I had a great phone chat with Roger at the end of last week which truly confused both of us!!! Rog said I hadn't been 'fired'…I had been 'retired' to work n my own projects,' Starkey wrote. 'Rog said 'Oh!' and we kind of left it there- On good terms and great friends as we have always been . Gotta love these guys. As my mum used to say 'The mind boggles!!!'' It's been a wild ride lately for Starkey, who has worked with everyone from Oasis to Johnny Marr, the Icicle Works and his dad's All-Starr Band over years in addition to recording sessions with dozens of other rock and reggae acts. Ahead of their upcoming farewell tour, guitarist Pete Townshend announced last month that 'After many years of great work on drums from Zak the time has come for a change. A poignant time. Zak has lots of new projects in hand and I wish him the best. Scott Devours who has worked with Roger's solo band will join The Who for our Final shows. Please welcome him.' The firing after a nearly 30-year run appeared to surprise Starkey, after reports that Daltrey was not happy with the drummer's performance at a March Royal Albert Hall gig, complaining from stage that Starkey's loud playing was throwing him off. Starkey was then seemingly re-hired just days after Townshend's original announcement, after what the guitarist and songwriter described as 'communication issues,' only to be re-fired on May 18. 'I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit the who to pursue my other musical endevours this would be a lie. I love the who and would never had quit. So I didn't make the statement,' Starkey wrote after the second firing. 'Quitting the who would also have let down the countless amazing people who stood up for me (thank you all a million times over and more) thru the weeks of mayhem of me going 'in an out an in an out an in an out like a bleedin squeezebox x.' The Who will kick off the U.S. leg of their farewell tour on August 16 at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, FL. Post Malone Brings Out NBA Legend Allen Iverson for ‘White Iverson' Performance in Philadelphia
At the turn of the century, it was Allen Iverson who served as the bridge between hip-hop and basketball while also boasting a massive amount of pop culture influence. Part of the influence came after he retired, when the Philadelphia 76ers icon inspired Post Malone's breakout hit 'White Iverson' in 2015. A decade later, Posty returned the favor and invited Iverson to join him on stage Saturday night (May 24) while performing a countrified version of 'White Iverson' in Philly. Malone invaded Citizens Bank Park over the weekend as part of his The Big Ass Stadium Tour with Jelly Roll, and gave the Philly faithful a fun surprise when Iverson hit the stage with Posty. 'ALLEN IVERSON LADIES & GENTLEMEN!!!,' Post captioned footage from the performance on Instagram, while Iverson wrote, 'Being a inspiration is golden! Shout out to @postmalone and shout out to Philadelphia! Ain't nothing like Philly love!' Fans agreed it was a beautiful sight to see Iverson get his flowers while he can still smell them from his second home. 'Gave us some of the best years Philly has ever seen,' one fan wrote. Another added, 'I'm so glad you're getting your flowers while you're still here. The media always tried to portray you as a bad guy but we the people has and will always the love you!' Of course, it's not the first time A.I. and Post Malone have linked up, as the superstar duo initially met back in 2017. 'I met the legend last night and there'd be no 'White Iverson' without him,' Malone told Billboard at the time. 'I'm still tripping at how sick it was, and as A.I. says, 'The culture has no boundaries.'' 'White Iverson' arrived in 2015 and peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track is now certified Diamond — giving Post eight Diamond plaques — by the RIAA. As for Iverson, The Answer spent 12 seasons with the 76ers after being drafted out of Georgetown in 1996. He led the Sixers to the NBA Finals in 2001, the same season he won his first MVP trophy. The Big Ass Stadium Tour remains in Pennsylvania this week with shows slated for Hershey and Pittsburgh before heading to Massachusetts.
