Josh Jacobs Named to NFL's ‘Bad Luck' List Due to Team Penalties
Josh Jacobs Named to NFL's 'Bad Luck' List Due to Team Penalties originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Green Bay Packers saw great things with Josh Jacobs in just one season and are hoping for more in the upcoming campaign. Advertisement Jacobs became an integral part of the team's offense, playing all 17 games and helping Green Bay reach the postseason. The former Las Vegas Raiders back tallied an impressive 1,329 rushing yards on 301 attempts, achieving the second-best yards total in his career. He also scored 15 rushing touchdowns, the most he's ever had in six seasons, showing he is a valuable component on the field for quarterback Jordan Love to hand off to or throw to. An NFL report arrived on Friday the 13th, which some believe is an unlucky day on the calendar. Based on the NFL's data, Jacobs led the league in a "bad luck" stat last season. Advertisement The star running back had the most rushing yards negated by penalties, 94, although that isn't necessarily Jacobs' fault, as Packers teammates were also responsible. He also had three touchdowns taken away due to penalties, tied for the most in the NFL. It's also worth noting that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Johnson was right behind Jacobs with 87 rushing yards negated by penalties. Despite the unfortunate stat hindrance, Jacobs still had a healthy and significant season in his Packers debut, finishing fifth amongst running backs for total rushing yards last season. Let's not forget, he also caught 36 passes for 342 receiving yards and a touchdown. His skills after a catch were on full display in a highlight against the Dolphins on Sunday Night Football. The good news is there's a new season ahead, with the Packers ready to push beyond than the Wild Card Playoffs. Advertisement In his seventh NFL season, a talented and powerful back like Jacobs could perform better than he did in 2024. However, his teammates should really cut down on those penalties to help him progress in Green Bay. While many fans on X griped about the team ratings revealed in this beta leak, there weren't any complaints about the Packers yet. "They literally said the deep dive all the ratings are randomly generated," one X commenter said. Another wrote on X, "They aren't finalized they never are don't take this into account." That 81 may or may not be what Green Bay's rating is when the game drops. According to GamesRadar, the team had the same rating when Madden NFL 25 came out last year. It could also improve as the new season progresses. Madden NFL 26 releases on August 14 with additional details from the game forthcoming. As of this writing, player ratings have yet to arrive, so fans should have another debate when they see how Packers players compare with others in the league. Former UNC football star signs Rookie NFL Contract
Former UNC football star signs Rookie NFL Contract Will Omarion Hampton embark on a successful NFL career? Despite slippery finishes to end both their 2023 and 2024 football seasons, the North Carolina Tar Heels discovered a star at running back in Omarion Hampton. Originally starting his sophomore campaign in 2023 behind British Brooks on the depth chart, Hampton elevated his game to become a UNC all-time great. Hampton finished each of North Carolina's past two seasons with over 1,500 rushing yards, setting a career-high with 1,660 yards in 2024, while ending his collegiate career Top-4 in career and single-season rushing yards as a Tar Heel. Hampton's collegiate prowess earned him a first round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, with the Los Angeles Chargers taking Hampton 22nd overall. There's a strong chance Hampton sees starting action from Game One, but he'll compete with offseason signing Najee Harris for the RB1 spot. Speaking of signings, Hampton just took a major step forward in his NFL career on Monday afternoon, signing his first official contract. Hampton's rookie deal is for four years and $17.77 million, plus a $9.56 signing bonus. What better head coach for Hampton to play under during his first season than Jim Harbaugh, who won the 2024 CFP National Championship with Michigan? Harbaugh will enter his second season as head coach in Los Angeles, which made the Wild Card Playoffs last year after a brief, 1-year hiatus. Hampton's backfield mate, Harris, is coming off the fourth-straight 1,000-rushing yard campaign to start his NFL career. Harris, who played his college football for Nick Saban at Alabama, spent the first four seasons of his professional career as a Pittsburgh Steeler. Will Hampton and Harris become the NFL's next dreaded running back tandem? The running back by committee approach works, as it forces teams to gameplan for multiple guys.
