‘Anyone could have been killed': Wanted teen leads Williamson County deputies on high-speed chase

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Deputies in Williamson County chased an 18-year-old wanted out of Georgia after he allegedly stalked and harassed a Spring Hill woman. According to officials, the incident began after the Spring Hill Police Department requested assistance from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office to find a young man, later identified as 18-year-old Baker Zahar of Atlanta, Georgia. Bodycam video obtained by News 2 shows the moments deputies chased Zahar along I-840 West on Friday, May 2 as he drove at speeds of up to 125 miles per hour in a Honda Civic. Suspected serial killer convicted of 1991 murder in Spring Hill At one point, video captured a deputy spike the vehicle's tires. Within minutes, the tires began to shred near the Goose Creek Bypass. Authorities reported that's when Zahar went off the roadway and crashed. As seen on video, Zahar got out of the vehicle and ran away as a deputy chased behind him. 'That is just insane, anyone could have been killed,' said WSCO Captain Becky Coyle. 'This is the kind of stuff we got to put a stop to.' A deputy reportedly tracked the 18-year-old to a wood line, where he was found hiding in a thorny thicket and claimed to have a bomb. When the deputy instructed Zahar to show his hands, the 18-year-old ran deeper into the darkness instead. Officials said the teen was found minutes later in a Goose Creek neighborhood. Zahar was then taken into custody at gunpoint. The 18-year-old allegedly told deputies that he lived in the area. While sitting in the back of the squad car, he then asked law enforcement why they were being so nice to him. ⏩ 'It's a clear example of how well Williamson County deputies work together,' added Coyle. 'If you are looking to do crime, don't come to Williamson County. Their training is excellent and they are going to find you.' Zahar was charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated stalking, evading arrest, theft of property, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and speeding. Booking records show he is being held in Williamson County Jail on a $750,000 bond. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Convicted felon arrested after leading Williamson County deputies on pursuit in stolen SUV

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Williamson County law enforcement credited a quick response and excellent communication for the successful apprehension of a man who was driving recklessly in a stolen car Tuesday morning. It all started on Tuesday, April 1 as an alert out of Nashville for law enforcement to look out for a convicted felon. Williamson County deputies picked up the pursuit on Interstate 65 South. The vehicle was allegedly being driven by Deterrius McClain, 30, who was in a Ford Explorer reported stolen out of Maury County. One of Metro's 'Most Wanted' fugitives sought for rape of a child According to the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, a helicopter kept eyes on the fleeing vehicle while ground units worked to contain the suspect. A deputy was able to lay out spike strips in the Thompson Station area and flatten all four of the vehicle's tires. The vehicle was forced to stop and the suspect ran into a field. Body camera footage from the end of the chase shows a deputy running through the field with his weapon drawn, barking out commands for McClain to lay down and not move. In the background, you can see the WCSO helicopter guiding units to the suspect. 'Our teams worked incredibly together. There were warrants units; Air 1, which is our aviation unit; and our patrol units and K9 unit working together meticulously to apprehend the suspect,' WCSO Capt. Becky Coyle told News 2. According to the Tennessee Department of Correction's website, McClain was arrested on cocaine charges and was out of prison on probation until 2040. ⏩ His Maury County record is also substantial, dating back some 10 years with many felonies, such as aggravated burglary, drug sales, and thefts. 'I am so incredibly proud of our dispatchers. I mean, the communication was excellent. Everybody knew where everyone was at,' Coyle added. McClain is in the Williamson County Jail facing multiple charges, including evading arrest and reckless endangerment. Not only is there a hold on him for other organizations, but he's also wanted on warrants out of Maury County. There's no word on how this may affect his probationary status with TDOC.
