Ex-Rangers boss Philippe Clement ‘REJECTS manager job in major turn of events'
PHILIPPE CLEMENT has reportedly turned down an approach from a European club to be their new manager - despite reports suggesting his appointment was a done deal. We told you earlier how the axed Rangers gaffer was the leading contender to take over as the boss of Sparta Prague. Advertisement 2 Philippe Clement is still without a manager after four months Credit: Willie Vass 2 He looked set to make his return to the dugout Credit: Willie Vass Reports from Czechia claimed Clement, 51, had been identified as the board's number one choice to replace Lars Friis, who was shown the door on May 15 after their cup final defeat to Olomouc. Sparta chiefs had been working down a shortlist of potential managers, with the former Monaco and Club Brugge head coach leading the pack. It was suggested an official announcement on his appointment would be made imminently. However, latest reports coming out of the country now state that Clement will NOT be named their new manager at this stage. Advertisement It's being reported by iSport that Clement has in actual fact rejected an offer from the club in a bizarre turn of events. Sparta have now reportedly turned their attention to Danish manager Bo Svensson, who was most recently the boss of Union Berlin. Clement's future in the game remains up in the air as he is still without a team since he was sacked by Rangers in February. The Belgian has been linked with a couple of jobs since his Ibrox dismissal four months ago. Advertisement He was initially tipped to be the next manager of the Belgium national team before he was even given the boot in Scotland. That ship had sailed but it was then reported in Belgium this month that he could be heading back to his homeland after all - as the new manager of Anderlecht. Rangers fans react as 49ers takeover completed That was, however, when current boss Besnik Hasi was meant to be on his way out of the dugout after a disappointing season. As things stand though Anderlecht chiefs have decided to stick by him for another campaign. Advertisement Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Rangers to change name of owning company after American takeover as US consortium plan MAJOR behind the scenes shift
The new owners are getting to work straight away after taking control of the club earlier this week NAME GAME Rangers to change name of owning company after American takeover as US consortium plan MAJOR behind the scenes shift THE parent company of Rangers is planning to undergo a significant name change following the club's recent takeover. The Light Blues are looking to go from a public company to a private one. Advertisement 2 It was announced on Friday that Rangers' takeover deal had went through Credit: Willie Vass 2 And the new board now have some big plans in regard to the club's name Credit: The Sun The proposed change is subject to approval from shareholders at an upcoming meeting later this month. Since November 2012, the Ibrox-based club has operated under the name 'The Rangers International Football Club PLC'. However, under the new leadership of chairman Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, spearheaded by vice chairman Paraag Marathe, the company intends to adopt the name 'Rangers International Football Club Limited'. This proposed shift symbolises a new era for the club and its corporate structure, music to the ears of Gers fans. Advertisement The issue will be decided at the club's Extraordnary General Meeting (EGM), which is set to take place on 23 June at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel in Glasgow. This pivotal meeting will allow shareholders to deliberate and vote on the proposed changes. If approved, the move to a private company is expected to bring a fresh direction to the club, strengthening its foundations under the new ownership. This comes after the takeover was announced earlier this week, with £20million of fresh capital invested into Rangers. Advertisement Football finance expert Kieran Maguire spoke to SunSport when the confirmation of the takeover broke. He said: "FFP is less of an issue than the club losing money and they need to address that first. Rangers fans react as 49ers takeover completed "They have some big hitters and experienced people joining [the board] though." The new owners come into the Ibrox club with plenty of football and business experience. Advertisement New members of the Rangers board, including chairman Cavenagh, are successful businessmen from across the pond, with new vice-chair Marathe presiding over 49ers enterprises. He is also the chairman at Leeds United, but despite being under the same ownership structure, the Gers and the Whites are operating as two separate entities. The first action of the new board will be to appoint a new head coach, with the permanent position still vacant after Philippe Clement's departure in February. Ambitious non-league Scots club folds after just 11 years due to ‘a number of factors'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BROOMHILL FC have folded after just 11 years of existence in the Scottish non-league. The club was originally founded as a children's sports club in 2004, with BSC Glasgow FC launching in 2014 to give players a pathway into adult football. A year later the partnership ended and the club rebranded to Broomhill Football Club, and entered a deal allowing them to play at Dumbarton Football Stadium. But a statement on the club's account on X, formerly Twitter, has announced that the end of that deal and a 'number of factors' - including a first relegation out of the Lowland League - means that the board has decided to fold the club. The statement said: "We'd like to address the rumours that you may (or may not, depending on how 'online' you are) have been hearing over the last week or so. "Due to a number of factors, including the enforced termination of our ground sharing agreement with Dumbarton FC, the continued frustrations in securing support for our own facility, and the sustainability of running a club at this level, the board have decided to bring Broomhill FC's time to an end. "We have had an incredible ride over the last 11 years, from South Challenge Cup glory in our first season, to being runners-up in the Lowland League in 2018/19 and winning the Lowland League Cup in that season too (sorry about the dent!). Our Scottish Cup run in 2019/20, culminating in a televised match against Premiership side Hibernian, will live long in the memories of everyone associated with Broomhill. "As a club, we have never been afraid to try different things. "Some worked, some didn't but we've always tried to be innovative. "As a club we never shied away from anything, we've been bold every time we've made a decision, and we've backed them up even when they weren't popular. Mick Kennedy & Si Ferry in dreamland as play-off win sparks wild pitch invasion as East Kilbride plot rise through SPFL "Obviously this isn't a decision we've taken lightly and it comes as a blow to us, and to the committed volunteers and staff who have worked tirelessly to make the club a success over the last 11 years. "We would like to thank each and every person who has come into the club, offered their time, their spirit and their commitment to make Broomhill FC better. "To our supporters, though small in number, we appreciate your passion, your desire and your support for non-league football. "Non-league fitba is amazing, it brings us together in community, unites us in good-natured rivalries, and ultimately... it's great fun. "Through the highs and the lows, and all of the different badges, we've had so much fun for the last 11 seasons. "Thank you for having us." Robbie Neilson interested in THREE vacant SPFL manager jobs as ex-Hearts boss says ‘it's just about making sure it fits'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ROBBIE NEILSON wants a quick return to Scottish football after his American adventure was cut short. The former Hearts, Dundee United and MK Dons boss came home last month after being sacked following an 18-month spell with second-tier outfit Tampa Bay Rowdies. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Derek McGregor with Robbie Neilson Credit: Willie Vass 2 Neilson was last in Scottish football with Hearts Credit: Willie Vass Neilson, talking exclusively to SunSport's YouTube One-on-One podcast, is hungry for a new opportunity. And he's keeping a close eye on the vacancies at Dundee, Motherwell and Partick Thistle. Asked if they were positions of interest, the 44-year-old said: 'Yes, definitely. 'I really missed the intensity of the Scottish game. 'When you've been out of it for a while you want to get back into it. So all these clubs would be very interesting. 'It's just making sure it's a fit. Do they see something in me they want, and vice versa. 'I'll see how it goes in the next couple of weeks. At this time I'm open to anything. 'I've got plenty to offer my next job. I've had promotions, title wins, cup finals and European football. I took the Tampa Bay Rowdies job for a change. 'I'd obviously been in Scotland and England all of my career, so I wanted something different and it was a great opportunity. 'I thought I could go and experience a different culture, a different style of football, a different lifestyle. Legendary Hearts manager Jim Jefferies reveals he was dead for more than four minutes as he opens up on major health scare 'It was a great experience, cut short a bit as I was only there for 18 months. But all in all, it was something that I really valued and it's helped make me a better coach. 'What I really missed was the intensity of the game here. 'Everything there is more about the product you put on the pitch. Results weren't a massive thing. 'Whereas here, it's the No 1 sport. 'That intensity before the game, that's what I started to really miss. 'Getting back to that environment is something I'm looking forward to.' Neilson insisted he had no problems dealing with the sack from Hearts in 2023 which abruptly ended his second spell in charge. A 2006 Scottish Cup winner with the club as a player, he was axed after missing out on third spot to Aberdeen. But the three-time Championship title winner admits it was probably the right decision for both parties. He added: 'To be honest, it's part and parcel of the game. 'When I left MK Dons, that was the first time it had happened to me and it was really difficult. The second time, it's part of the game. 'I spoke to a lot of managers about it, like Alex Smith and Craig Levein, and you have to get used to it. 'If you can go somewhere for two or three years you've done really well. 'It had come to that point where we were both drifting, me as a coach and them as a club. It was probably the right thing to do. 'But you learn every time you come out of a job. 'You want to leave a club in a better place than when you took over and the majority of clubs I've been at I've managed to do that.' Rangers star Nedim Bajrami ‘likely to lead Ibrox US takeover exodus' as two destinations emerge for Albanian star
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RANGERS star Nedim Bajrami could form part of the exodus from Ibrox this summer, it's being claimed. The Albanian, who was signed last summer for £3.5million from Sassuolo, has shown only flashes of what he's capable of in his debut season at Ibrox. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 1 Nedim Bajrami, Rangers Credit: Willie Vass And with his first team spot no longer guaranteed, a report in his homeland claims that he's likely to continue his career AWAY from Glasgow. Citing the player's agent Fai Ramadani, a report in Albanian outlet Panorama Sport moots two potential destinations for the attacking midfielder, either a move back to Serie A or the Bundesliga. While the Ibrox side have yet to nail down a new manager, and are still concluding the transaction which will see Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises take control, the first summer transfer decisions were made yesterday. That's when it was announced that three top team stars were leaving after the expiry of their contracts - with another three going back to their parent clubs after loan spells. Leon Balogun, Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence all came off the payroll, while loan stars Vaclav Cerny, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Rafael Fernandes all returned to their parent clubs. Cerny in particular became a huge hero among Gers fans when he sprayed Celtic supporters with water as he celebrated a late winner from Hamza Igamane at Parkhead. In all, though, he enjoyed a fruitful season at Rangers on-loan from Wolfsburg with 18 goals and 10 assists in 52 appearances. The luckless Kasanwirjo sustained a serious injury when returning home to play for the Netherlands Under-21 side and never essentially recovered.
