Liam Payne's family share what they think of new Netflix documentary
Liam Payne's final TV project is set to air this week, nine months after the former One Direction singer tragically died after falling from his hotel in Argentina Liam Payne's family have spoken out about his upcoming Netflix show – his final project before his death. The late One Direction singer tragically died aged 31 in October last year, after falling from the third floor of his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. But before his death, the Wolverhampton-born singer had been working alongside some huge names in the music industry on a new Netflix show, which is set to air this week. Liam teamed up with Nicole Scherzinger, who created One Direction, as well as Kelly Rowland and host, Backstreet Boys icon, AJ McLean, for Building The Band. While the show is to be released almost a year after Liam's death, his family have been very vocal about the programme and their views on it. In the series, Liam is at his happiest, helping artists discover their talent and assisting them on their journey of finding success. But it comes with a hint of sadness for his loved ones, with his sister Ruth admitting she was torn about discussing the show online. She said she was "heartbroken" that her little brother would never see how "brilliant" he is on the show. Ruth shared on her Instagram Stories: "I didn't know whether to share this, but it felt odd when I've raved about Liam's work and achievements for the past 15 years. "I'm heartbroken he never got the chance to see how brilliant he is in this show. He knew he had done a good job, we all told him this when we were at filming, but watching it back, wow!" She went on to add: "You're a star Liam, you always were and always will be. There are a range of emotions I felt watching this, but one of the main ones is immeasurable pride, always. Miss you more every day." The Payne family have also given their blessing for the show to air. A source said: "Netflix have gone out of their way to make sure his family are happy." They concluded by saying: "Producers sent them the footage so they are fully aware of what to expect and they have given it their blessing." Netflix have ensured that Liam's legacy will be cemented on the programme and he will remain a firm key feature on the show. A source said: "Even though Liam had filmed a substantial amount of material for the show, the decision was made shortly after his passing to continue the project, honour his legacy and amazing story as a One Direction member and bring this series to audiences." The streaming giant said: "Liam Payne's family reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion." Meanwhile, Simon Hay, the show's shooting producer-director has since praised Liam for his time on the programme, saying Payne was "chatty and approachable," and remembered contestants names. Another member of the crew said that Liam was "charming" while filming and "Really wanted to help" those taking part. At the start of the show, Liam will also be remembered in a very moving tribute. Host AJ says: "When we came together to film Building The Band, we never imagined we'd soon be saying goodbye to our friend, Liam Payne. "Liam is a guest judge in later episodes and through his presence we see his deep love for music and his unwavering commitment to helping others find their voice. It is through that spirit that we dedicate this series to Liam and his family." An official synopsis from Netflix describes the premise of Building The Band, saying: "Building The Band brings together talented singers for a truly unique competition show where building the perfect band is all about chemistry. "The singers are in complete control as they seek to form their very own bands in individual 'booths' without ever seeing each other. All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit. What will happen when the bands finally meet, and looks, choreography, and style come into play? "With incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal — to find the next great music band — the stage is set for an unforgettable experience." Building The Band is to be released on Wednesday, July 9.

Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy breaks down in tears in emotional ITV Lorraine scenes
Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy broke down in tears this morning and admitted she is "still working on accepting" his death during a conversation with Lorraine. Liam, 31, died last October after he fell three floors from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Kate has now shared her feelings five months on, along with the final moments she spent with the Wolverhampton-born singer-songwriter. Read more: Warning to drivers over common car battery problem that can cause breakdowns In the highly-emotional interview, Kate said she's "still working on accepting the fact that he's not here anymore," explaining: "It's hard for me to refer to him in the past tense, and when I do refer to him in the past tense it almost stings that little bit more because… it just … it's more official." Kate explained the significance of the necklace she was wearing, saying: "It actually is angel wings, I saw it in a little gift shop a couple of weeks ago and I feel like it spoke to me and matches my angel wing tattoos. I wear it quite often and it once again makes me feel closer to Liam." Liam had travelled to the Argentinian capital with Kate to attend a performance from his former bandmate Niall Horan, with the 25-year-old influencer flying back to the US just days before Payne's death. "I've never lost anybody close to me before," Kate said, "so this is my first time dealing with anything like this and going through this grief and healing journey. "He has impacted so many people in this world and I know I'm not alone in this, so many other people are grieving. It shows how much of an impact he had on people's lives. "He would light up any room he walked into and he had this sense of humour where he could make anything better and his presence was just comforting and warming and that is something I will never forget about him, ever." Kate is now part of the March4March campaign, designed to motivate people to take a stroll and boost their mental health. It was actually the number four that drew Kate to the organisation to begin with, saying: "For people that aren't familiar with the number four, it's mine and Liam's angel number which symbolises support and guidance from your angels, and I genuinely believe that Liam guided me to this campaign and wanted me to be involved in this to help other people. It's something that he wanted me to do."

Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy says death 'still doesn't feel real' - and reveals why she left him in Argentina
Liam Payne's girlfriend has said his death was a "tragic accident" and he was in "such a good headspace" when she left him in Argentina. Kate Cassidy was with Payne in Buenos Aires but flew back to the US days before the One Direction star was killed in a fall from a hotel balcony. She told The Sun: "Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out at the end. "Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina." The American influencer said she had to get back to look after the couple's dog, Nala. "I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur," she said. Cassidy added: "It was a tragic accident and no, I never did think [he might die young]. But, you know, we did have our own separate lives - this wasn't the first time we have travelled separately. "I just never thought this would have happened, that it would turn out the way it did." Payne died aged 31 on 16 October from multiple injuries after falling from the third floor of a hotel in the Argentine capital. Three people have been charged with manslaughter over his death, and two with supplying cocaine. Cassidy, 25, said she thinks about Payne "every second of every day" and that she'd had a "childhood crush" on him since she was 10. The pair got together in 2022 and she told The Sun it still doesn't seem "fully real for me that he's not here". "From the moment I met Liam, I genuinely believed we were soulmates," said Cassidy. "He was the most humble, charming, normal person you could ever hope to come across, and genuinely one of the best people I've ever met in my life." She said the Wolverhampton-born singer "was in such a good headspace" when she left Argentina. "We were in such a great place, just full of love; he was so happy and positive. And I just can't even believe the way things truly ended," she said. Cassidy said she was glad she didn't discover he'd died via social media, revealing one of Payne's friends had called her to break the news. "That moment, it's like blank; it's blacked out in my head," she added. "I didn't believe it at first. I thought it was just a rumour. Or something that somebody made up just to get views." Payne's funeral took place in November in Buckinghamshire, with his former bandmates and ex-partner Cheryl among the mourners.
