Fans praise 'brave' Lucy Spraggan for talking on her X Factor sexual assault

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The former X Factor contestant Lucy Spraggan has been praised for her bravery by Celebrity SAS fans after she opened up about being sexual assaulted. Lucy told the Celebrity SAS staff about the attack, which happened in 2012 whilst she was taking part in the X Factor live shows. The assault happened after a night out celebrating fellow X Factor contestant Rylan Clark's 25th birthday, when the then 21-year-old Lucy headed back to her hotel. Lucy was then raped by a hotel porter who had used a traceable key card to get into her room – where she was passed out on the bed. The brave singer shared that the experience was part of the reason she wanted to come on the show. She started by saying: 'Where I, where I…I've been broken so many times.' The 34-year-old broke down as she shared the version of events that occurred that horrific night, 'The hotel porter said, 'Oh, I'll give her a hand' and I was paralytic. I passed out on the bed, so I can only tell you this stuff because of the information that I have been told.' 'When that hotel porter came up to my room to do what not-nice people do to vulnerable women,' Lucy added. The hotel porter was arrested, convicted of rape and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Holding back her tears, Lucy went on to say, 'I woke up and I didn't really know what…Well, I knew what had happened, but I didn't know what to do.' The artist then pointed out that the hotel porter had used a key card to get into her room, so police were able to track him down and arrest him for raping her. During the 2012 X Factor live shows, Lucy left unexpectedly, with viewers assuming it was down to a sudden illness. After her story had come to light, many fans took to X to share their support and how they felt that X-Factor producers failed her as a vulnerable young woman; they should have protected. 'This is heartbreaking to hear what Lucy went through at the X Factor!! That show big time let this young girl down!!' @triciautd said on X. 'Lucy, you brave lady. What a terrible experience. You are a queen,' @oohaoo added. @gemma_louise_58 shared: 'Lucy Spraggan, made of tough stuff – go all the way girl.' After trying her best to hold it together whilst re-telling her traumatic memories, Lucy burst into tears, stammering to the Celebrity SAS staff: 'It was seven years of, like, trying to destroy myself. The amount of times I was blackout drunk, again, after that. 'I know that that's what that was, I was just trying to shut everything out, but it felt like everything was snatched away from me in a really brutal way,' 'And I was like 'I haven't done anything wrong'. And so, I was angry about that, I was angry that other people had music careers that were better than mine.' 'Or sad that I felt like I'd missed the boat. It all just got so heavy. I realised, I was like, 'If I carry on doing this, I'm just going to die.' The celebrity SAS contestant has been pinpointed as a fan favourite to win due to her tough Yorkshire girl attitude. One fan, @eloquentparrot, took to X to spread the Lucy love: 'They may as well just pass Lucy now and end the series.' Things are looking up for Lucy as she married her wedding photographer wife, Emilia Smith, in June of last year at a beautiful venue in East Yorkshire – where X Factor's Simon Cowell walked her down the aisle. More Trending The popular artist has continued to make music since her X Factor stint 13 years ago – with her eighth studio album, Other Sides of the Moon, being released earlier this summer. Other Sides of the Moon features brand-new songs, Heaven and The Lesson – alongside reimagined classics like Tea and Toast and Butterflies. Dermot O'Leary back in Northern Ireland as filming begins on popular travel and food show

Former X-Factor presenter Dermot O'Leary is returning to Northern Ireland this week as filming begins on the second series of his popular food and travelling programme. The announcement comes a year after the successful first series of ITV's Dermot's Taste of Ireland aired, which saw the presenter visit Cork, Wexford and Belfast in a bid to rediscover his Irish roots. The first season saw over 3.3 million viewers tune in from across the country. This time round, O'Leary will kick off his tour of the island's food scene starting at the Causeway Coastal Route, before visiting Londonderry and continuing on to Donegal and Sligo along the famous Wild Atlantic Way. Throughout the journey, O'Leary will meet with the producers, chefs and restaurateurs of the local food scene, while also experiencing the tastes of the coastline. In the series, viewers will also see the This Morning presenter enjoy some of the best outdoor experiences, including boat tours around the coast and try his hand at surfing. The 10 part series will be produced by Rock Oyster Media, and supported by the Shared Island Tourism Brand Collaboration Project. It is set to be seen by millions of viewers when it airs on ITV1 and ITVX next spring. The radio and TV presenter explained he is looking forward to journeying the island once more. 'It's great to get back to the island of Ireland to discover more of its delights and tell more of its stories,' O'Leary said. 'It's somewhere I know so well, and call home, and yet, in some ways, I barely know it at all. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the island, meet our people, explore our heritage, swim in our seas, and of course eat our incredible food.' Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, Alice Mansergh, said the response to the first series was very positive for the sector. 'We're delighted to welcome Dermot back to Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland as he travels, films and shares his experiences with viewers in GB,' she said. 'The response to the first series of the show was extremely positive. 'Dermot grew up in Essex but spent summers with family in Ireland; with many second and third generation diaspora across Great Britain, Dermot's experiences will resonate with those discovering and rediscovering the island of Ireland, inspiring others to explore our iconic coastal routes for themselves.' The production is also a collaboration with Tourism Ireland, Tourism Northern Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

Celebrity SAS chaos as two stars quit during first episode of new series

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins has turned to chaos as two stars quit during the very first episode of the new series, following a gruelling challenge Chaos erupted on the opening episode of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins as two contestants quit during the first episode of the new series. The Channel 4 military reality show returned Sunday night but the high-stakes challenge quickly proved too much for some. ‌ This year's lineup features 14 famous faces including Love Island stars Chloe Burrows, Tasha Ghouri and Adam Collard, X-Factor singer Lucy Spraggan and ex-drug mule Michaella McCollum, among others. The group was pushed to their limits by instructors Mark 'Billy' Billingham, Jason 'Foxy' Fox, Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver. ‌ From the outset, the recruits were plunged into high-pressure situations. One of the first challenges saw them hooded and lined up on a breakwater, where chief instructor Billy demanded their identities - while he snapped at several contestants warning them not to 'grin' at him. ‌ What followed were two intense tasks: a 26-foot plunge into the sea followed by a swim to an intercepting boat and a simulated hostage rescue mission in an abandoned compound, described as one of the most dangerous tests on the course. Pop star Hannah Spearritt, 44, best known for her time in S Club 7, was visibly distressed during the rescue mission. She approached the directing staff and handed in her number tag, saying: "I'm done, I'm sorry, I've reached a point." ‌ In a pre-recorded interview played after her exit, Spearritt admitted: "I didn't think I'd go on the first day… I wouldn't forgive myself." ‌ Spearritt wasn't the only celeb to give up during the first task, as Louis Spence, best known for his appearance on Pineapple Dance Studio also chose to withdraw. During the same hostage task, Spence prematurely threw a grenade into the building while two "hostages" were still inside. After the mission, he told the staff he wished to leave, despite being offered the chance to stay. Spence said: "I want to do an immediate withdrawal, I just don't have the conviction, and I feel as though I'm not dedicated enough." ‌ He was told that he "hadn't even started", but Spence replied "that's what I mean." The episode also featured tense moments for other recruits. Former model Rebecca Loos was pulled in for interrogation after struggling in the water-based challenge. During the intense questioning, she was asked about her alleged affair with footballer David Beckham, whom she once worked for as a personal assistant. ‌ Before the first task, RuPaul's Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash claimed the experience would be "a piece of p**s" after growing up as a queer person in Norfolk. Later, ex-Watford striker Troy Deeney was questioned by directing staff after successfully completing the hostage task. In an emotional moment, he opened up about the physical abuse he and his mother suffered at the hands of his late father. Unlike other reality shows, Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins doesn't eliminate contestants through votes. Instead, participants either quit of their own accord or are removed by the directing staff. Those who endure to the end are declared the winners.
