Protests Demanding Dbeibeh's Resignation Tighten Pressure on Libya's Unity Government
Widespread protests in Tripoli have escalated pressure on Libya's interim Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh to resign, following renewed unrest and clashes in the capital earlier this month. Demonstrators, mostly young people, blocked major roads and intersections leading to the government's headquarters on Al-Sikka Road, including areas such as Furnaj, Bifi, Zanata, Fashloum, and Yarmouk-Ganzour. The protesters lit car tires on fire, shut down key thoroughfares, and chanted slogans calling for Dbeibeh's removal, denouncing the worsening economic and living conditions. Security forces were deployed to prevent the crowds from advancing toward the prime minister's office. These nightly protests have become increasingly frequent, forming a mounting challenge to the Government of National Unity. Organizers have called for a major demonstration in Martyrs' Square this Friday, dubbing it a 'Friday of Rage.' However, several human rights organizations and civil society figures condemned the use of vandalism during the protests, warning that damaging infrastructure undermines the legitimacy of the movement. The 'Sooq al-Jumaa Movement,' a key group behind the mobilization, denied involvement in acts of sabotage, saying: 'We oppose corruption and this government, but we are not in favor of destruction.' The group reiterated its support for peaceful protest and called for large-scale demonstrations focused on accountability, not chaos. Public frustration has grown sharply over the presence and influence of armed militias in Tripoli, accused of turning the capital into a lawless zone. Citizens, including academics, lawyers, and doctors, issued a statement condemning the violence and accusing militias of forcing business closures, halting university classes, and intimidating civilians under the guise of civil disobedience. They urged Dbeibeh and his interior minister to stop allowing Tripoli to become a 'ghost city,' calling on the government to dismantle the Special Deterrence Force and rein in militia groups led by internationally wanted figures such as Osama Njeim. Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry announced continued security operations in coordination with military units as part of the ceasefire implementation process. In light of the fragile security situation, the Russian Embassy said Ambassador Aydar Aganin met with Mohamed al-Haddad, Chief of Staff of Dbeibeh-aligned forces, to discuss the need to maintain calm and prevent renewed conflict in the capital.

Yarmouk volleyball teams celebrate strong season across all age groups
KUWAIT CITY, May 24: Khaled Al-Fulaikawi, Board Member of Yarmouk Club and Head of the Volleyball Division, praised the impressive performances delivered by the club's volleyball teams during the recently concluded season. Highlighting the achievements, Al-Fulaikawi noted that the Under-10 team secured third place in the league, while both the Under-12 and Under-16 squads finished as league runners-up. The Under-16 team also claimed second place in the Cup competition, and the Under-19 youth team earned second place in the Cup as well. Al-Fulaikawi emphasized that these results were the outcome of consistent hard work and dedication by the technical staff, referring to them as the backbone of the "Sons of Mishref" volleyball program. He expressed optimism for even greater success in the upcoming season, reaffirming the club's commitment to nurturing talent and competing at a high level. Osama Madkour, head coach of Yarmouk's Under-19 team and technical director, extended heartfelt thanks to the club's management for their continued support. He credited club officials, including President Ahmed Al-Jarki, Secretary General Fouad Al-Filakawi, and Volleyball Head Khaled Al-Filakawi, for their constant presence and encouragement throughout the season. 'The supportive environment created by the management allowed us to focus on building the teams and achieving strong results,' Madkour said. 'With our recent success, the technical staff's mandate has been renewed, and we are committed to further developing player performance and producing future champions.' The Yarmouk Club's volleyball operations are overseen by Head of the Volleyball Apparatus, Khaled Al-Filakawi, and his deputy, Othman Haji. Al-Qurain clinches Squash Federation Cup, secures historic double
KUWAIT CITY, May 21: Al-Qurain Club continued its dominance in squash by claiming the Men's Federation Cup title after defeating Yarmouk 2-1 in the final, marking a historic achievement as the club secured both the league and cup titles for the first time in its history. In the opening match, Al-Qurain's Khaled Al-Fawzan overcame Yarmouk's Jassim Al-Gharib with a 3-1 victory. This was followed by a strong performance from Saif Heikal, who defeated international player Ammar Al-Tamimi, also by a 3-1 margin, to seal the win for Al-Qurain. Yarmouk settled for second place, while Al-Nasr finished third. The trophy and medals were presented by Squash Federation President Walid Al-Sumaie and Al-Qurain Club President Abdulkarim Al-Shahoumi, alongside Federation Vice President Khaled Al-Habib, Secretary General Hamed Al-Omran, and Board Member Adel Al-Gharib. During the ceremony, Al-Shahoumi also awarded the General Excellence Cup to Al-Qurain's Director of Squash, Mohammed Al-Jamal. Al-Qurain topped the General Excellence standings with 44 points, followed by Khaitan with 30 points and Al-Arabi with 24 points. Other rankings included Yarmouk (9 points), Kuwait Club (8), and Al-Nasr (2). Al-Qurain clinches historic squash league title with a flawless record
KUWAIT CITY, April 26: Al-Qurain Club was crowned champion of the Kuwait Squash League for the first time in the tournament's history, achieving a flawless record without a single defeat across both divisions. Al-Yarmouk Club secured second place, while Al-Nasr Club finished third. The Squash League championships for all categories concluded last Thursday, in the presence of General Secretary of the Squash Federation Hamed Al-Omran, Board Member Ahmed Al-Adwani, Al-Qurain Club Secretary Khalifa Al-Shahoumi, and Al-Arabi Club Treasurer Fahad Al-Fahad. Al-Qurain's championship-winning squad featured players Saif Heikal, Abdulrahman Al-Maghribi, Khaled Al-Fawzan, Abdullah Hani, Shaheen Amir, Fahad Al-Ghais, and Badr Al-Maghribi. The team was coached by Tamer Raafat and managed by Mohammed Al-Jamal. In the age group competitions: Under-19: Al-Qurain claimed first place, with Khaitan second and Yarmouk third. Under-17: Khaitan secured the title, followed by Al-Qurain and Al-Arabi. Under-15: Al-Arabi emerged as champion, with Al-Qurain second and Yarmouk third. Under-13: Al-Qurain captured first place, with Khaitan second and Yarmouk third. Under-11: Khaitan took the top spot, Kuwait Club finished second, and Al-Qurain placed third.

Kuwait announces 23-player squad for the Arab Cup
KUWAIT CITY, April 23: Icelandic head coach Aron Kristjansson, along with his Danish assistant Ansen, has named a 23-player squad for Kuwait's national handball team ahead of the 10th Arab Cup for Men's National Teams, which will be hosted in Kuwait from May 4 to 12. The tournament coincides with the International Handball Federation Week and will feature the participation of nine Arab countries. The selected players are: Hassan Safar, Abdulaziz Al-Dhafiri, Mohammed Bouyabes, Abdulaziz Al-Shammari, Haidar Dashti, Fawaz Al-Mishari, Saif Al-Adwani, Fawaz Mubarak, Abdullah Al-Khamis, Abdulaziz Salmeen, Saleh Al-Raghib, Hamoud Al-Adwani, Mohammed Al-Hindal, Abdulaziz Dhaif, Abdulrahman Al-Enezi, Mishaal Al-Harbi, Hussein Al-Mutawa, Mohammed Al-Aryan, Ibrahim Dhaif, Youssef Dhaif, Mohammed Ghadanfar, Mohammed Al-Sanea, and Abdulrahman Al-Shammari. The national team, also known as the "Blue Handball Team," kicked off its training yesterday and will continue preparations through an internal training camp until the tournament begins. Meanwhile, in local handball action, Qadsia Club topped the First Division League standings after a dominant 32-21 win over Al-Sahel in the 14th round, held at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. In another match, Fahaheel defeated Yarmouk 35-28.
