Rescue teams recovered her body on Saturday. Her body was still in the mortuary of the Combined Military Hospital in Skardu on Sunday. Contact has been made with Chinese authorities in Islamabad, and "now it is up to them to make further decisions in this regard,' said Faraq. Jing's death occurred several weeks after German mountaineer and Olympic gold medalist Laura Dahlmeier died while attempting Laila Peak in the Karakoram mountain range. Bodies of foreign climbers who die attempting to summit mountains in Pakistan are typically recovered at the request of their families. But if the family declines a rescue, the remains are left at the spot where the climber died. Faraq said authorities were trying to provide climbers with better infrastructure, rescue facilities, security and a friendly environment. Mountaineering expeditions are the backbone of the local economy, bringing in millions of dollars in direct revenue. A large number of people work on these expeditions from May to September, feeding their families for the whole year with these earnings, he added. Hundreds of climbers try to scale mountains in northern Pakistan every year. Accidents are common because of avalanches and sudden weather changes. Last August, two Russians spent six days stranded on a remote peak before they were rescued. Gilgit-Baltistan, in Kashmir, has been battered by higher-than-normal monsoon rains this year, triggering flash floods and landslides.

Kazma and Burgan begin overseas camps
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 16: Kazma and Burgan handball teams have launched their overseas training camps in preparation for the new season. Kazma will compete in the Arab Club Championship, hosted by Kuwait Club from September 12–22 alongside Al-Sulaibikhat, while Burgan is set to participate in the Asian Club Championship, with dates to be announced, in addition to domestic competitions. Kazma's camp in Izmit, Turkey, runs until August 28. The delegation is led by team director Salem Abdul Salam and includes Serbian coach Bozo, technical analyst Waleed Al-Anzi, fitness coach Abdullah Maseer, goalkeeper coach Omar Al-Malih, physiotherapist Nader Qasim, and a full squad of 19 players. Burgan's camp is taking place in Bosnia until August 26. Both teams are focusing on physical conditioning, tactical drills, and friendly matches. Meanwhile, Kuwait's junior handball team finished 26th at the 11th Junior World Championship in Cairo. In its final match, the 'Blue' lost 26–29 to South Korea in the 25th–26th place playoff. A total of 32 national teams participated in the tournament.

Mahuchikh pips Olyslagers in Silesia Diamond League high jump
Grand Slam Track won't happen in 2026 until athletes paid for 2025 CHORZOW: Ukraine's Olympic and world champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh notched up her 22nd Diamond League victory in a high jump shoot-out with Australian Nicola Olyslagers in Katowice on Friday. The women's high jump was one of three disciplines along with the women's shot put and women's pole vault that were held in the main square of the southwestern Polish city. The main Silesia Diamond League meet will be held in neighboring Chorzow on Saturday, when Olympic champion Noah Lyles goes head-to-head with Jamaica's Kishane Thompson in a much-anticipated re-match of last year's Paris Games 100m final. The high jump predictably turned into a battle between the two clear favorites. Mahuchikh cleared 2.00 meters at her second attempt to heap the pressure on her Australian rival, the two-time defending indoor champion who won silver medals at the last two Olympics. But it proved to be too much and Olyslagers had to be content with second place in 1.97m behind the world record holder who has now bagged three wins on the circuit this season.
