Survey in progress to study feasibility of operating train service between Tindivanam- Cuddalore via Puducherry
The Southern Railway has launched a study to check the feasibility of operating train service between Tindivanam and Cuddalore via Puducherry.
The intent of the railways to construct a new rail line connecting Tindivanam, Cuddalore and Puducherry was made clear at a meeting of Southern Railway officials with Members of Parliament on Wednesday in Tiruchi.
To a written request made by Puducherry MP V. Vaithilingam on laying a rail line between Tindivanam and Cuddalore via Puducherry, the Southern Railway has stated that a feasibility study and final location survey for the project was currently under way. 'The feasibility study/final location survey is in progress for a new line from Tindivanam to Cuddalore via Puducherry. On completion of the survey, a detailed project report will be submitted to the Railway Board for further sanction,' the Southern Railway said in its written reply.
The Railways also informed the MP about its plan to construct a new station for Puducherry as part of laying the rail line between Tindivanam and Cuddalore. The new Railway Station in Puducherry when constructed will have facilities for maintenance of trains. To another request made by the MP, the Southern Railway agreed to consider extending Madurai-Punalur Express to Karaikal and extension of Yashwanthpur Express to Bikaner via Hubli, Solapur, Surat, Ahmedabad and Jodhpur.
