Fabrizio Romano Offers Latest on PSG Interest in £50M-Rated Newcastle, Man City Target
PSG are expected to be in the market for a center-back this summer, and one name on their radar is Bournemouth standout Illya Zabarnyi. But landing the Ukrainian defender won't be straightforward. Last year, PSG leaned into youth with the additions of Lucas Beraldo and Willian Pacho, and that strategy could carry over into this transfer window. While the summer window is still a couple of months away, rumors are already picking up speed. Advertisement In May, Sky Sport Switzerland linked PSG with Zabarnyi and Club Brugge's Joel Ordoñez as potential targets. However, bringing in Zabarnyi could depend on how things unfold elsewhere in the squad. One factor that could shape the club's transfer plans is the future of Matvey Safonov. With Gianluigi Donnarumma potentially solidifying his role as the long-term No. 1, Safonov might be on the move—either through a sale or a loan. If PSG can clear out some space in the goalkeeper hierarchy, it could strengthen their case to convince Zabarnyi. Could PSG secure Bournemouth ace Illya Zabarnyi? On Tuesday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided the latest regarding the Parisians' have already opened talks with Bournemouth over a potential move for Zabarnyi. Advertisement Luis Campos has been tracking the Ukrainian defender for years and is now pushing to bring him to Paris. PSG do have backup options, though. The club have two other center-backs on their shortlist in case Bournemouth decide not to sell. PSG face a challenge in securing the talented defender, as The iPaper reported that Zabarnyi, a serious target for Newcastle and admired by Manchester City, is believed to have a starting price tag of around £50 million.

PSG open talks with Bournemouth star as Liverpool close in on Cherries left-back Milos Kerkez
European champions Paris St Germain have opened talks with Bournemouth for their centre-back Ilya Zabarnyi. PSG are yet to make an offer, but the Cherries are reluctant to sell having lost Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid while Liverpool are closing on their left-back Milos Kerkez. The Champions League winners are starting to consider long-term replacements for captain Marquinhos, who turned 31 last month. Ukrainian defender Zabarnyi has caught the eye since joining the Cherries from Dynamo Kyiv in January 2023. The 22-year-old started all but three of Bournemouth's Premier League matches last season and he was suspended for two of those. Only five teams in the top flight conceded less goals than Andoni Iraola's side, who finished ninth in the standings. Bournemouth have discussed a bid for Rennes defender Adrien Truffert as a possible replacement for Kerkez. Kerkez could become Liverpool's second signing of the summer after Bayer Leverkusen right wing-back Jeremie Frimpong. Bournemouth have reportedly slapped a £45m price tag on Kerkez, one of their most prized assets. The club will be reluctant to lose a man who has been one of their top performers over the last two seasons and he still has three years remaining on his contract.

'More than a few defensive headaches going on for Iraola right now'
Bournemouth's backline has been at the forefront of Andoni Iraola's mind for a number of weeks now. On multiple occasions, he has highlighted not just the number of goals they've conceded, but perhaps more the manner in which they've been conceding them. That's why the clean sheet in the win over Fulham would have meant so much to made a big call in leaving out Ilia Zabarnyi on Monday night. It was the first time he'd ever chosen to drop the Ukrainian defender. Zabarnyi has set a very high bar for himself since his arrival at Bournemouth, and his performances in recent week haven't hit his usual Senesi stepped in against Fulham, but he had a difficult first-half, so much so that Iraola had to swallow his initial decision to drop Zabarnyi as he then brought him on at half-time in Senesi's was a perfect example of Iraola's decisiveness. He wasn't afraid to drop Zabarnyi initially, but then didn't leave Senesi on the pitch longer than he needed to just because of his principles. That's something Iraola should be praised then across the backline, there's the very real prospect of both Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez departing Bournemouth this summer. Kerkez in particular was excellent again last night. He's quickly emerged as one of the Premier League's best full-backs, and is going to be mightily hard to replace if he does leave Vitality more than a few defensive headaches going on for Iraola right now.

Hill's patience 'finally been rewarded'
"Be patient, and your time will come" is a common football aphorism. James Hill's career has likely featured variations on that phrase, but the Bournemouth defender's patience has now been rewarded with his longest run in the team, in which he has looked increasingly assured at Premier League is only 23, yet his career began when he became Fleetwood Town's youngest ever player aged 16. However, it was telling that last summer, with five central defenders on the books, it was Chris Mepham who was loaned out, with Hill squad's injury problems meant Hill's chance came in December, and he has not looked back. Cherries appeal over Zabarnyi red card rejected
THE Cherries' appeal over Illia Zabarnyi's red card against Wolves has been rejected by the FA. The Ukrainian was shown a red card after 31 minutes at the Vitality Stadium for a challenge on Rayan Ait-Nouri. Initially, he was shown a booking by referee Michael Salisbury, but he was sent to the pitch side monitor and upgraded his decision to a red.
