PFF: Seahawks have top-5 backfield in NFL

The Seattle Seahawks struggled to run the football last season. The ground game finished 28th in the league, averaging 95.7 yards per contest. It wasn't due to a lack of talent in the backfield, with both Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet being effective in doses. Poor offensive line play and inexperienced play-calling didn't help the Seahawks establish the run. An injury to Walker also left the backfield occasionally shorthanded. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is hoping to implement a ground-and-pound approach. Pro Football Focus recently ranked every running back room in the NFL. Somewhat surprisingly given last season's results, the Seahawks' backfield placed fifth. "Seattle quietly possesses one of the NFL's deepest running back rooms," Dalton Wasserman wrote. "That unit includes Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, Kenny McIntosh and seventh-round rookie Damien Martinez. Walker tied for fourth in the NFL with a 91.3 PFF rushing grade last season, though he appeared in only 11 games. Charbonnet also placed among the top 20 with his 78.8 PFF rushing grade. Martinez could be an interesting addition to the unit after ranking third in the FBS with a 94.4 PFF rushing grade at Miami last season." Adding Damien Martinez to the room improved the overall standing. The Seahawks also have terrific depth, with Kenny McIntosh giving the Seahawks four NFL-caliber options. The Seahawks desperately need to improve their rushing attack in 2025.
