'Technical issue' forces Cebu Pacific flight to Tawi-Tawi to return to Zamboanga

A Cebu Pacific flight headed to Tawi-Tawi on Sunday morning was forced to return to the Zamboanga International Airport due to an 'aircraft technical issue', according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). Flight 5J4965, carrying 157 passengers, was scheduled to leave Zamboanga at 11:35 a.m. and arrive in Tawi-Tawi at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29. 'CAAP confirms that a Cebu Pacific flight bound for Tawi-Tawi safely returned to Zamboanga International Airport this morning due to an aircraft technical issue,' the CAAP advisory said. 'A recovery flight with a changed aircraft has been scheduled, with an estimated departure time of 3 p.m. today,' it added. Further details were not immediately available. For its part, Cebu Pacific said the flight returned to Zamboanga at 12:12 p.m., with passengers provided meals and assistance while awaiting the recovery flight which left at 4:09 p.m. using an upgraded A320neo aircraft. The carrier did not elaborate on the technical issue. "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused and thank our passengers for their patience and understanding," the airline said. —RF, GMA Integrated News

Bomb threat written on toilet paper found in plane in Zamboanga City

A bomb threat written on a toilet paper was discovered inside a Cebu Pacific plane at Zamboanga International Airport on Saturday. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said at 8:20 a.m. a cabin crew member performing a routine inspection after passenger disembarkation saw a tissue note inside one of the aircraft's lavatories bearing the message 'may bomba' (there is a bomb). The flight attendant immediately reported the matter to ground security personnel, who then conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft. No explosives were found. ''By 8:59 a.m., the situation was declared under control, and normal operations at Zamboanga International Airport resumed. All passengers were cleared for boarding, and flight activities continued without further disruption,'' CAAP said. Presidential Decree 1727 criminalizes the malicious dissemination of false information concerning bombs or explosives. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
