REGION - NORTHERN > NEWS By Zarul Effendi Razali LANGKAWI, May 23 (Bernama) -- Russian Helicopters, a subsidiary of defence conglomerate Rostec, is aiming to expand its presence in the Southeast Asian (SEA) market by showcasing its latest aircraft at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2025. The company is promoting its newly upgraded Mi-171A3 offshore helicopter, the Ka-32A11M firefighting helicopter, and the Ansat lightweight multipurpose helicopter. Speaking on the sidelines of LIMA 2025 today, company spokesperson Puminova Valeria highlighted the Mi-171A3 as an ideal solution for many key countries participating in the exhibition. 'Malaysia, for example, is a major exporter of natural resources, with proven oil reserves exceeding 4 billion barrels. Many other Asian nations attending the event also have extensive coastlines or a developed network of offshore deposits. 'For these countries, it is critical to have a fleet capable of operations over both land and sea. The Mi-171A3 is perfectly suited to meet this need,' she told Bernama. Designed specifically for the oil and gas sector, the Mi-171A3 supports personnel and cargo transport to offshore drilling platforms and is also equipped for offshore search and rescue operations. The helicopter has a maximum take-off weight of 13 tonnes and can carry up to 4 tonnes of payload. With additional fuel tanks, it boasts a range of up to 1,000 kilometres.

Malaysia Has Capacity To Capture Rapidly Evolving Space Economy Industry -- MOSTI
By Zarul Effendi Razali LANGKAWI, May 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has the capacity to capture the rapidly evolving space economy industry, with the country's large local talent pool, ample resources, good infrastructure and technology. Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) deputy secretary-general (Technology Development) Datuk Dr Mohd Nor Azman Hassan said Malaysia's geography is very suitable for the country to play an important or significant portion of the space economy. 'If you want to launch a rocket launcher for satellites, Malaysia's equatorial location presents a huge advantage in terms of sustainable rocket launch, for example. 'Because when you launch it from the equatorial line of the globe, of the world, you essentially use less resources and fuel and also time that translates to more money and cost savings,' he told Bernama after delivering the opening speech at the Space Conference – Space Economy Revolution: Trends, Technologies And Strategies event today. The half-day conference was held on the sidelines of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) 2025 exhibition and successfully gathered 150 participants, including senior officers from Southeast Asian space agencies, industry players, academia, ministries, departments and agencies, and international organisations. During the event, Mohd Nor Azman also witnessed the exchange of letters of intent (LOIs) between UZMA Bhd and Global Systemes Asia Sdn Bhd; SpaceIn Sdn Bhd and Global Systemes Asia Sdn Bhd; International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Ocullospace Sdn Bhd; the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) and Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA); and MYSA and Ocullospace Sdn Bhd. The conference, organised by Global Exhibitions & Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC) and supported by MYSA, served as a strategic platform, bringing together experts from the space sector to address challenges at the national, regional, and international levels, among others. Also present at the event were GEC strategy advisor Datuk Nonee Ashirin Mohd Radzi and MYSA director-general Datuk Azlikamil Napiah.

Firms Must Remain Vigilant To Prevent Cyberattacks
25/04/2025 05:06 PM By Zarul Effendi Razali and Siti Noor Afera Abu KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 (Bernama) -- Businesses, including brokerage firms, must regularly conduct security assessments and cybersecurity penetration testing to detect potential vulnerabilities and prevent future cyberattacks, said LGMS Bhd executive chairman Fong Choong Fook. He stressed that organisations must consistently identify possible weaknesses in their systems, including those from applications and end-user access points. 'Businesses and brokerage firms need to change their mindset. Hackers no longer target specific industries—they will randomly attack all industries,' he said to Bernama. LGMS is a global technology research and advisory firm, specialising in Technical Security Services (TSS) and Strategic Security Services (SSS) in cybersecurity. Earlier in a joint statement, the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and Bursa Malaysia Bhd said they have received reports from a few brokers who identified failed client logins and unauthorised access or trading activities executed via limited clients' online trading accounts. 'Capital market regulators and brokers are on alert and remain vigilant while working closely to ascertain the root cause of the incident, and to implement any further necessary measures. 'We wish to assure all investors that the integrity of Malaysia's capital market remains intact,' the statement said. Commenting on this, Fong has urged the SC and Bursa to review the existing cyber risk management framework at a more granular level.
