Vikrant Massey And Vidhu Vinod Chopra Revisit The Struggles Of 12th Fail In Zero Se Restart

Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Zero Se Restart, a powerful behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of 12th Fail, is now streaming globally on Prime Video. In a rare and riveting behind-the-scenes revelation, Prime Video has announced the global premiere of Zero Se Restart—a documentary that intimately captures the making of filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra's critically acclaimed film 12th Fail. Now streaming in India and across 200+ countries and territories, the 85-minute documentary offers a raw, emotional, and surprisingly entertaining look at the creative chaos, persistence, and passion that went into shaping one of Indian cinema's most inspiring stories. Edited and directed by Jaskunwar Singh Kohli and produced under the Vinod Chopra Films banner, Zero Se Restart is more than a behind-the-scenes featurette—it's a full-fledged emotional journey into the heart of storytelling. Filmed over three years and distilled from over 18,000 minutes of footage, the documentary follows Chopra and his crew through every step of making 12th Fail—from script rewrites and unpredictable shoots to the moments of doubt, clarity, and sheer creative grit. 'Zero Se Restart may initially seem like a behind-the-scenes documentary—and it certainly is. But when viewed, I hope a more powerful story emerges," said Chopra. 'I had little idea how to film 12th Fail when I started—and yet, here it is. A celebration of courage embedded in all artistic processes. Zero Se Restart is a perfect example that grit, grace and growth all come when you allow yourself to restart." Kohli, who spent three formative years working alongside Chopra, adds, 'For any aspiring filmmakers out there, Zero Se Restart is a treat! It's a one-stop destination to learn from the hilarious and brilliant VVC himself. This wasn't a scripted or planned project—we just pulled out the most powerful 85 minutes from 18,850 minutes of footage. That's only 0.0045% of it!" Also featured in the documentary is actor Vikrant Massey, who played the lead in 12th Fail and reflects on the intensity of the experience: 'Zero Se Restart brought back the fear, the fire, and the faith. We shot in unpredictable locations, chasing moments with no safety net. Watching Mr. Chopra lead a young crew—armed with endless rewrites and no takers for the story at first—was truly inspiring. I'm grateful to Prime Video for taking this journey to audiences across the world." At its core, Zero Se Restart is not just about making a film. It's about perseverance, vulnerability, and starting from scratch with nothing but a dream and a vision. Whether you're a filmmaker, a cinephile, or someone seeking a dose of creative courage, this documentary delivers a potent reminder: that greatness often begins at zero.
