Severe weather causes widespread power outages across KZN
Following a bout of severe weather, which brought heavy rainfall, strong winds and snowfall to KZN, Eskom has reported multiple power outages across the province.
The power utility's KZN industry support and stakeholder management Zethu Sonjica said 'significant disruptions' have been caused to the electricity supply in several regions.

Affected areas include Empangeni, Melmoth, Mtubatuba, Ulundi, Hluhluwe, Jozini, Nongoma and eShowe in the Zululand region, as well as other areas across KZN.
Restoration efforts under way
'Eskom has deployed technical teams to attend to faults in accessible areas. However, the utility notes that many roads remain closed due to flooding and snow, making access to some affected zones impossible at this time. Technicians remain on standby and will attend to these areas as soon as they become reachable,' said Sonjica.

Sonjica added that they understand the inconvenience and frustration this situation causes, and appealed to customers for patience and understanding as they work to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.
'Eskom has issued a strong warning to the public to treat all electrical infrastructure as live. Residents are urged to stay clear of fallen cables, damaged poles or any exposed wiring, and to report such hazards immediately to local authorities or via Eskom's reporting channels,' said Sonjica.
