China's Zhang Zhizhen says he is on track to play at Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Hong Kong
China's Zhang Zhizhen has said he expected to return to action in time for October's Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Hong Kong – but would first have to get to grips with the rules of the innovative event. From his career-high ranking of No 31 on the ATP list last July, Zhang, still nursing a shoulder injury, had seen his position slide to No 165 this week. But he said on Monday that he should be back in six weeks' time and confirmed he was on course to play in November's National Games. 'If everything goes well, I should be returning in the week of September 8, at the Challenger Tour event in Guangzhou,' he said. 'I am still recovering, [but] everything is getting better.' Zhang, whose last tournament was an ATP Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells in the United States in March, said he had been enjoying the time off with his daughter, who was born last August. Krygios, Zheng lead star-studded UTS Hong Kong showdown in October
Nick Kyrgios and Zhang Zhizhen will be among a host of stars at the UTS Hong Kong tennis tournament in October, organisers have announced. Advertisement The global tennis tournament is making its Asia leg debut in Hong Kong this year and will take place on October 14-15 at Kai Tak Arena. Born to a Malaysian mother, Australian player Kyrgios said he is excited to be part of the first event on the continent. 'I'm super excited about being part of UTS Hong Kong,' Kyrgios said. 'UTS is such a blast to play in. It's pretty wild for us and for the fans and I love it. 'I'm also really proud of my Malaysian heritage and I've always loved playing in Asia so to be able to play UTS in a great city like Hong Kong is going to be really, really special.' Advertisement But the 2022 Wimbledon finalist will not be the only big name on show in the city.

Hong Kong to host Ultimate Tennis Showdown, with Zhang, Rublev among stars confirmed
Hong Kong's Kai Tak Arena will host a tennis event with a difference in October, bringing eight of the world's best men's players to town, organisers confirmed on Saturday. Advertisement The city has been awarded hosting rights for a stage of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS), a shortened, fast-paced form of the sport with time limits and players encouraged to show their personality. China's top men's player Zhang Zhizhen has been confirmed for the event, along with the world's No 9 and 10, in Russia's Andrey Rublev and Alex de Minaur of Australia. There will be a total of US$1.1 million in prize money, with Rublev chasing further success in the city to add to his triumph in last year's Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open. Michael Cheng Ming-git, president of the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association (HKCTA), welcomed the announcement, made on Saturday at the second UTS event of the year, in Nimes, in the south of France.
