KPWKM Commended For Leading Advocacy Against Sexual Harassment
TAWAU, May 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) has been commended for its proactive efforts nationwide in raising awareness about sexual harassment. Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, said sexual harassment can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, race or religion, and is often perpetrated by someone close to the victim. 'Many victims remain silent due to social pressure or simply because they don't know where to seek help. They should take advantage of the Sexual Harassment Redress Tribunal (TAGS) introduced by KPWKM. It provides a fast and low-cost alternative for addressing sexual harassment complaints. 'We all share the responsibility of creating a safe environment and supporting victims in seeking justice,' he said at the closing ceremony of the KPWKM Kembara Kasih 2025 programme and the handing over of the anti-sexual harassment notice last night. Also present was KPWKM Deputy Secretary-General (Operations), Farah Adura Hamidi. Joachim expressed concern over the rising trend of such cases in Malaysia, with 788 cases reported last year compared to 522 in 2023. As of March this year, 214 cases have already been recorded, five of them in Sabah. He praised the impact of the KPWKM Kembara Kasih 2025 programme, which covered six districts across Sabah, starting in Tuaran on May 16, then moving through Papar, Penampang, Lahad Datu, Kunak and ending in Tawau. He said the initiative brought meaningful benefits to key target groups in Sabah, particularly women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, through 34 programmes. 'Programmes like Ziarah Kasih, which deliver direct aid to clients of the Social Welfare Department and the National Population and Family Development Board, received strong support from the local community.

YKM brings festive cheer to Covid-19 affected families in Sabah
Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia chairman Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob presenting gifts to Arvina Chris Nolvi, one of YKM's recipients, during his recent visit. KOTA KINABALU: When Arvina Chris Nolvi lost her husband to Covid-19 three years ago, she felt helpless as she had no fixed income and four school-going children to raise. For the full-time housewife from Kampung Kilirip, Kinarut in Papar, it was not just the loss of a loved one. Her husband, Henry Bisara, who passed away on February 15, 2022, had also been the family's sole breadwinner. Help arrived through Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia (YKM), which has been supporting Nolvi and her children since Bisara's passing, bringing much-needed relief and hope. The family had the opportunity to thank YKM chairman and former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob personally during his visit to their home on Friday (May 23). He said the visit was part of YKM's Ziarah Kasih initiative held in conjunction with the Kaamatan (Harvest) Festival. Ismail Sabri added that these visits have become a tradition for the foundation during major festive celebrations under the Keluarga Malaysia concept. "YKM beneficiaries are found across the country, including Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan. During each festive season, the foundation organises Ziarah Kasih visits and distributes aid to ensure that every recipient can celebrate joyfully with their family. "This visit also reaffirms YKM's commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that no family affected by Covid-19 is overlooked or left behind," he added. Also present was the political secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister I and Papar Umno division chief, Datuk Jamal Norubit @ Nerubi. Following the visit to Nolvi's home, the YKM team continued their outreach to another recipient, Husidah Ahali, in Kampung Pomotodon, Inanam. Husidah lost her husband to Covid-19 and now supports her four children with only RM400 a month from selling traditional snacks. The Ziarah Kasih programme concluded with a visit to Maslinah Abdul Manaf in Kampung Inanam Laut, who also lost her husband to Covid-19 on August 15, 2021. Maslinah, an online entrepreneur, now depends on digital platforms and YKM's assistance to make ends meet. In addition to these visits, YKM also extended festive aid to 14 Dayak recipients in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration. Ismail Sabri expressed hope that all parties, especially local communities in remote areas, would help spread the word about the assistance available for those impacted by Covid-19. The public is encouraged to contact YKM via email at admin@ or by calling 03-22027493.

Baby girl yearns for father killed in FRU crash
Pall of gloom: Norazian holding Amira Sofea, flanked by Amirul Asyraf (left) and Amirul Firdaus (right). GOPENG: The one-year-old daughter of the late Kpl Amiruddin Zabri, one of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) members killed in an accident near Teluk Intan earlier this week, is missing her father badly. His widow, Norazian Mohd Joned, 38, said Amira Sofea would cry in the middle of the night, looking for him. 'Our daughter is very attached to him, as he used to put her to sleep every night,' she said during the visit by National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) chief operating officer Mastura Mohd Khalid as part of their Ziarah Kasih programme held at her home here yesterday. 'Thank God, we recorded a lot of videos of my husband and I can play them for my children including my two boys, Amirul Firdaus, 12, and Amirul Asyraf, 11.' On May 13, a gravel-laden lorry had crashed into a FRU truck on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, which was on its way back to its base in Sungai Senam in Ipoh. Apart from those who lost their lives, there were also nine other FRU personnel who sustained injuries from the accident. Norazian, who works as an administrative assistant at the Kampar police station, also said that she does not bear any grudges against the lorry driver involved in the incident. 'I forgive the lorry driver, as the incident might be 'asbab' (fated),' said Norazian, with tears streaming down her cheeks. She also recalled that Kpl Amiruddin had once spoken about the honour of dying in service. 'He once spoke about a case involving firemen who drowned while trying to save others. 'He said the firemen died honourably and the entire country had prayed for them. 'Maybe he had a similar wish in his heart,' Norazian said, adding that her life still feels surreal with her husband no longer around. Norazian also expressed her gratitude for the aid provided by PTPTN, saying it would help ease her burden in securing her children's education. 'My husband wanted one of our children to become a religious teacher and I'll work towards fulfilling it,' she said.
