KPWKM Commended For Leading Advocacy Against Sexual Harassment
TAWAU, May 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) has been commended for its proactive efforts nationwide in raising awareness about sexual harassment.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, said sexual harassment can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, race or religion, and is often perpetrated by someone close to the victim.
'Many victims remain silent due to social pressure or simply because they don't know where to seek help. They should take advantage of the Sexual Harassment Redress Tribunal (TAGS) introduced by KPWKM. It provides a fast and low-cost alternative for addressing sexual harassment complaints.
'We all share the responsibility of creating a safe environment and supporting victims in seeking justice,' he said at the closing ceremony of the KPWKM Kembara Kasih 2025 programme and the handing over of the anti-sexual harassment notice last night.
Also present was KPWKM Deputy Secretary-General (Operations), Farah Adura Hamidi.
Joachim expressed concern over the rising trend of such cases in Malaysia, with 788 cases reported last year compared to 522 in 2023. As of March this year, 214 cases have already been recorded, five of them in Sabah.
He praised the impact of the KPWKM Kembara Kasih 2025 programme, which covered six districts across Sabah, starting in Tuaran on May 16, then moving through Papar, Penampang, Lahad Datu, Kunak and ending in Tawau.
He said the initiative brought meaningful benefits to key target groups in Sabah, particularly women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, through 34 programmes.
'Programmes like Ziarah Kasih, which deliver direct aid to clients of the Social Welfare Department and the National Population and Family Development Board, received strong support from the local community.

Policeman killed in motorcycle accident on NSE near Kuala Kangsar
IPOH: A policeman has been killed while on his way home to Kedah after the motorcycle he was riding skidded at KM253.7 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) northbound near Kuala Kangsar. Engineer loses over RM1.5mil to online investment scam
BUKIT MERTAJAM: An engineer working in the Middle East lost over RM1.5mil to an online investment scam recently. Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the victim, 40, lodged a report with the Central Seberang Perai district police headquarters commercial crimes investigation division yesterday. "In November last year the man got to know a woman through the phone and had a relationship before the woman invited him to join an investment scheme called GoldenCrimson that offered handsome returns. "The man was interested to invest and was given a customer service number and a website link to register, and he invested RM90,510 and received returns of RM108,611," he said in a statement on Friday (June 6) night. The man grew confident in the scheme and made 103 transactions to 31 different accounts totalling RM1,532,563 from Dec 2 to March 8, and realised he was scammed when he failed to withdraw RM4,131,671 through the app but was asked instead to provide additional capital to be able to withdraw his profits. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. - Bernama

Cops bust Alstonia gang with arrest of nine, seizure of drugs worth RM5.1mil
SHAH ALAM: Police busted a drug trafficking syndicate known as the Alstonia Gang after arresting nine suspects, including a foreign woman, and seizing various types of drugs worth RM5.11 million in five separate raids around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor on Tuesday (June 3). Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said among those arrested were the gang leader, a local man working as an e-hailing driver and his foreign lover, who are believed to have been actively carrying out drug trafficking activities for the past eight months. He said that in the first raid on a house in Bukit Jalil at about 5.50 pm, they nabbed a man and a foreign woman and seized MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) powder and juices suspected of containing drugs, each weighing 4,656 grammes and 3,000 millilitres. "The second raid was conducted on a house in Semenyih and led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of powdery substances believed to be MDMA drugs weighing 230 grammes, followed by a third raid at 6.10 pm in Puchong where a male suspect was held and 966.10 grammes of ecstasy seized. "At 10.30pm, we conducted raid number four on a house in Kajang and arrested a man and seized 110 vape cartridges suspected of containing 2,880 grammes of drugs," he told a media conference here today. Hussein said the suspect then led police to a house in Kajang, where they seized MDMA powder weighing 21,452 grammes, ketamine (4,722 grammes), ecstasy pills (641 grammes) and erimin 5 pills weighing an estimated 1,960 grammes. He said that following interrogation, police then arrested three men and a woman around Selangor and Kuala Lumpur who are believed to be involved with the syndicate. "In addition to the syndicate leader and his lover, who has lived in the country for the past 10 years, seven other suspects, all aged between 24 and 38, worked as food traders, personal shoppers and barbers. "Six of them tested positive for drugs and three tested negative, while three of them also had previous records related to crime and drugs," he said. Hussein said the syndicate targeted entertainment centres around the Klang Valley to sell to individuals via face-to-face interaction and also online. He added that police also seized five vehicles - Proton Preve, Toyota Vios, Hyundai Sonata, BMW 320i and Honda Civic - jewellery, watches, LV-brand handbags and various cash denominations, with the total seizure amounting to RM341,449.16. "This success is a result of the intelligence we carried out for two months and all suspects have been remanded for seven days, with the case being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he said. – BERNAMA
