KPWKM Commended For Leading Advocacy Against Sexual Harassment
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, said sexual harassment can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, race or religion, and is often perpetrated by someone close to the victim.
'Many victims remain silent due to social pressure or simply because they don't know where to seek help. They should take advantage of the Sexual Harassment Redress Tribunal (TAGS) introduced by KPWKM. It provides a fast and low-cost alternative for addressing sexual harassment complaints.
'We all share the responsibility of creating a safe environment and supporting victims in seeking justice,' he said at the closing ceremony of the KPWKM Kembara Kasih 2025 programme and the handing over of the anti-sexual harassment notice last night.
Also present was KPWKM Deputy Secretary-General (Operations), Farah Adura Hamidi.
Joachim expressed concern over the rising trend of such cases in Malaysia, with 788 cases reported last year compared to 522 in 2023. As of March this year, 214 cases have already been recorded, five of them in Sabah.
He praised the impact of the KPWKM Kembara Kasih 2025 programme, which covered six districts across Sabah, starting in Tuaran on May 16, then moving through Papar, Penampang, Lahad Datu, Kunak and ending in Tawau.
He said the initiative brought meaningful benefits to key target groups in Sabah, particularly women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, through 34 programmes.
'Programmes like Ziarah Kasih, which deliver direct aid to clients of the Social Welfare Department and the National Population and Family Development Board, received strong support from the local community.

Bound body found near Hulu Selangor railway track
HULU SELANGOR: The body of a man with his hands and feet bound was found near a railway track in Sungai Serian, Kalumpang, earlier today. The discovery was made by a member of the public at approximately 10.30 am. Hulu Selangor Police chief Supt Ibrahim Husin stated that initial investigations suggest the body was likely dumped from the Kampung Sungai Serian bridge, which stands 11.15 metres high. 'Forensic findings show the victim's hands and feet were tied, and his head was wrapped in cloth secured with black and white adhesive tape,' he said in a statement. The forensic team estimated the man had been dead for over four days, as decomposition had already set in. No identification documents were recovered from the body. The remains have been sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem. Authorities are treating the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The yacht that the three men from Turkiye were travelling aboard. - Photo: Bernama KUALA TERENGGANU: The Turkish men aboard the yacht Daisy, which capsized during a storm in waters off Pulau Yu on Tuesday (July 29) were on a cross-continent voyage from Malaysia to Turkiye. Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor said that two men, Ahmed Volkan Ata, the yacht's captain, and crew member Eser Demirkol, were missing, while the third crew member, Ates Demiroren, had been rescued. Before the incident, Captain Ahmed Volkan Ata had sailed the Daisy from Port Jackson Bay, Sydney, Australia, docking at Kuantan Port, Pahang, which served as a meeting point. The other two crew members joined from Krabi, Thailand, and Singapore, departing Kuantan for their voyage. "On July 28, at 5pm, the Daisy started its voyage and was supposed to arrive at its first checkpoint at Pattani Port, Thailand," he stated. However, the yacht encountered a storm in the waters off Pulau Yu at 2.30pm on Tuesday and is believed to have capsized, with only Ates Demiroren managing to save himself. The rescued victim is currently reported to be weak and is receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital. The Marine Department, the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), and the Turkiye Embassy have been informed of the incident for further action. "All matters involving the Turkish nationals will be managed entirely by the Turkiye Embassy, and the rescued victim will be transported home once his condition improves," he added.
