Man arrested after pedestrians shot in Toronto's west end: police

A 32-year-old man is facing multiple charges in connection with an incident in Toronto's west end last week where two people were shot by a man riding a motorcycle. In a news release issued Thursday, police said the man was arrested on Tuesday and has been charged with four counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault, on top of various weapons charges. The shooting happened at around 2:40 a.m. in the area of King Street W. and Sudbury Street, Toronto police previously said. A group of friends were walking in the area when a man, who was driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed, nearly struck the victims, police said in the news release. The man then came up to the group and "yelled obscenities at them," police said. When the victims tried to walk away, the accused waited for them at the end of a laneway, pulled out a firearm and fired several rounds at them before fleeing westbound on Sudbury Street, according to investigators. A man and a woman, both in their 30s, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital in critical condition.

Six years later, Alberta RCMP officer who shot person in face charged with aggravated assault

A retired Alberta RCMP officer is facing criminal charges for allegedly shooting a person during an investigation more than six years ago. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) on Tuesday announced it has charged former Mountie Geordie Erickson with aggravated assault. The charge stems from an April 6, 2019, stolen property investigation in Eckville, a town outside Red Deer. During the investigation, Erickson was accused of shooting the occupant of a vehicle in the cheek. ASIRT's investigation revealed 'reasonable grounds to believe that an offence had been committed,' and the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service determined the evidence met its standards for prosecution, ASIRT said in a news release. Erickson was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear Aug. 28 in Red Deer's Court of Justice. ASIRT is in charge of investigating cases where police officers kill or seriously injure members of the public, as well as allegations of criminal misconduct by law enforcement. jwakefield@ @ Related ASIRT investigating after man shot dead by police in Lac La Biche Law enforcement watchdog appointed to head up new Alberta Police Review Commission You can also support our journalism by becoming a digital subscriber. Two arrested after fight involving suspect's ex-husband in Baxter County

BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. — Deputies arrested two people who were allegedly involved in a fight involving a suspect's ex-husband and another woman staying at a residence in Baxter County early Monday morning. Hayley Davis, 29, of rural Mountain Home, is charged with felony residential burglary and aggravated assault, as well as misdemeanor third-degree battery. Andrew Harkreader, 36, of Salesville, is charged with misdemeanor third-degree battery. According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office (BCSO), they arrived at a residence on Norfork River Road after 3 a.m. and contacted a man and a woman. They told deputies the ex-wife of the man, identified as 29-year-old Hayley Davis of Rural Mountain Home, came to the residence upset that the woman was staying there. The victims said Davis got out of her vehicle with a tire iron and began swinging it at the male. The male victim fled back into the home, but Davis kicked down the front door. Davis then broke into a bathroom where the female was hiding, punching her in the head and pulling her hair. Harkreader also came into the home and restrained the male victim so he wouldn't be able to stop Davis, BCSO says. Arkansas State Police make multiple arrests, rescue multiple victims as part of national child exploitation investigation Both Davis and Harkreader then went outside, where the victims believed they heard a gunshot. However, no firearm was found, HCSO says. Deputies later arrived at the scene and searched the area for the two suspects. Harkreader was found in the area of the residence and was taken into custody at approximately 5:50 a.m. Davis was later located at a home on Winterberry Drive in Salesville after being picked up by a motorist and was taken into custody near Boggs Drive at approximately 8:46 a.m. Both suspects were booked into the Baxter County Detention Center. Davis is being held on a $25,000 bond and will appear in court on July 21, while Harkreader is held with a $500 bond and will appear in court on August 14. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Crown stays charges against man accused in 2021 parking garage attack on Elnaz Hajtamiri

A Delta, B.C. man charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence had his charged stayed by the Crown in a Newmarket courtroom Friday. The decision to halt the prosecution came a few weeks after Akash Rana, 27, testified as a Crown witness against Mohamad Lilo, who was convicted in the aggravated assault of his former girlfriend Elnaz Hajtamiri who is missing and presumed dead. Rana testified about his role as one of a handful of men hired in a plot to track down, harm and kidnap Hajtamiri, who was abducted three weeks later from a home where she had gone into hiding with loved ones in Wasaga Beach. Rana was one of at least seven men charged in connection with the parking garage assault and failed abduction attempt on Hajtamiri December 20, 2021, in Richmond Hill, Ont. that involved the use of a frying pan on her. Lilo was convicted of aggravated assault by a Barrie jury following a six-week trial. Hajtamiri's two attackers that day, Riyasat Singh, and Harshdeep Binner, took plea deals. Singh was deported in late 2022 and Binner was released from jail last month after two years in custody. Binner admitted to assaulting Hajtamiri with the frying pan while Singh recorded the attack on his phone before they were scared off by a passerby. The court heard Binner and Singh waited for Hajtamiri in her parking garage that day, attacked her and fled the scene in a black Mazda stolen for them by Rana who was arrested in March 2023 and later granted bail. (CTV News/Mike Arsalides) Another man accused in the attack, Sukhpreet Singh, was on the run for two years on a Canada-wide warrant until he was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in San Antonio, Texas last month. Hajtamiri's family says her vehicle was found to have tracking devices on it. Lilo, whom police say owned a shipping container business, remains in jail following his conviction awaiting sentencing in October and a separate trial for Hajtamiri's murder in May 2026. A staying of charges against Rana means the Crown has up to one year to resume its prosecution. Another man charged in the case, Harshpreet Sekhon, is scheduled to return to a Newmarket courtroom next week. The allegations against the accused have not been tested in court.
