Police shoot 19-year-old knife-wielding man in Gahanna

GAHANNA, Ohio (WCMH) – A Gahanna police officer shot a knife-wielding 19-year-old on Thursday morning, according to the Fraternal Order of Police. The shooting happened at about 9:45 a.m. in the 300 block of Lincolnshire Road, just east of Interstate 270. According to a city of Gahanna spokesperson, all officers are safe and there is no threat to the community. The spokesperson said an officer was responding to a mental health situation and shot the individual, who was taken to a hospital. The man has been identified as Makhi McMillan, 19. The officer who shot McMillan began rendering aid immediately, according to police. The FOP said McMillan was threatening to hurt a family member and ignored the officer's commands to drop the knife. McMillan was hospitalized in serious condition, and he has been charged with felonious assault. The shooting is the fourth such incident to occur involving a law enforcement member over the past two weeks. On May 26 Morrow County Deputy Daniel Sherrer was killed during an encounter on a domestic disturbance call. Four days later a Marysville officer was struck during a similar call. Three dead after apparent double murder, suicide in east Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Three people are dead after what police said is an apparent double murder, suicide that occurred in the far southeast side of the city. According to Columbus police, one woman and two men were found dead at the Countryview East Apartment complex on Esquire Drive, off of Refugee Road in the Abby Trails neighborhood. Franklinton residents seek modernization, but fear gentrification Police said two people were found dead outside of the home and one inside after reports of a shooting were received at 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Multiple calls reported that a man had shot a woman and then shot himself before officers arrived and found three victims, all suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman and one man were found outside, and another man was found inside the residence. Witnesses told police it was a man who shot the woman outside before turning the gun on himself. CPD Homicide detectives are treating the scene as a double murder suicide, though have not uncovered the connection between all three victims. Esquire Drive is officially open, though the scene is still very active with a heavy police presence around the apartment and crime scene.
