Man accused of shooting Marysville police officer indicted on nine charges
MARYSVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) — The man accused of shooting at a Marysville police officer before he drove away has been indicted on nine charges, including attempted aggravated murder. A Union County grand jury returned the indictment Friday against Dustin M. Ohm, 29, of Marysville. On May 30, police responded to a domestic dispute call on White Oak Court. According to details from police and Union County Prosecutor David Phillips, a sergeant tried to get Ohm, who was impaired, to exit his pickup truck. He refused and revved his engine. As the sergeant moved to deploy her taser, Ohm fired at nearly point-blank range. The sergeant was struck by shattered glass and two shots were found embedded in a house. Ohm then reportedly fired at three other officers, coming under return fire, and drove away. He crashed into multiple cars, including a police cruiser, exiting the neighborhood. The chase was joined by sheriff's deputies and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, ending on U.S. 33 in the median strip near Northwest Parkway. Ohm got out of the car armed and was shot several times by law enforcement. Phillips said that Ohm was also struck by a self-inflicted gunshot. The charges that Ohm faces are: Attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer Three counts of felonious assault on a peace officer Having weapons while under disability Two counts of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer Discharging a firearm at or into a habitation Vandalism The sergeant struck by Ohm was treated at a hospital, and Ohm remains in a hospital under guard, Phillips said. The shooting of the Marysville officer was one of several times that central Ohio law enforcement officers have come under fire in recent weeks. A Morrow County deputy was fatally shot on Memorial Day, and two Mifflin Township officers were shot by a man on probation, sparking a manhunt after he ran away. Ohm is due in court on June 25. Sherwood Fraternal Order of Police voice support for proposed gun range
Video: New Sherwood development raises concerns in Brushy Island community SHERWOOD, Ark. – A gun range project that has been met with controversy has received the support of the city's Fraternal Order of Police. The shooting range is part of a proposed 22-acre project in the Brushy Island district, which will support an administrative building, a maintenance and operations center, a wash bay, and the police shooting range. The city has broken ground on the project. New Sherwood development raises concerns in Brushy Island community The Sherwood Mathis-Lowe Lodge 15 stated in a Friday announcement that it supports the range. The statement went on to call the range 'imperative' for officer training. 'In previous years, officers have had to travel long distances or to locations with heavy restrictions [to train], preventing us from adequately training on specific techniques,' the announcement states. 'Our officers must be adequately trained in the best techniques to keep the public safe and violent crime out of our city.' The FOP also thanked Mayor Heye-Townsell and the Sherwood City Council for their support of the project. Some residents of the unincorporated Brushy Island have expressed concern about the project's impact and the safety considerations of the range. Fireworks & Foodtrucks celebration returns to Sherwood on July 3 Heye-Townsell, who said previously that the project has been in the works since 2023, and Sherwood Police Chief Jeff Hagar have said the range is designed with safety in mind. Man charged with murder, rape in 1989 Licking County cold case
NEWARK, Ohio (WCMH) – A 67-year-old man is facing murder and rape charges in connection with a 1989 Licking County homicide. On Thursday, Delbert Saunders Jr. was indicted by a grand jury on charges of aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and rape in relation to a homicide that occurred 'on or about' April 20, 1989, according to Licking County court records. Saunders would have been 31 years old at the time. While the indictment does not state who the victim was, on Thursday, Newark police announced that the department will be holding a news conference on Monday to share 'recent developments' in the homicide of 71-year-old Helen Stuart. A Facebook page dedicated to Stuart run by her family also made a post Friday stating an arrest has been made in her case. 'Helen was a beloved mother, grandmother, and woman of deep faith,' the post reads. 'She was taken from us in 1989, and for decades, her case remained unsolved. This page was created with hope—hope that someone, somewhere, knew something that could help us find the truth. And now, that day has come.' An Ohio Attorney General unsolved homicide database states on April 21, 1989, Stuart was found dead in the back of her silver 1981 Ford Fairmont on State Route 16 near State Route 668 in Licking County. An investigation revealed that the homicide possibly occurred at Stuart's residence before she was transported to where her remains were found. Stuart was sexually assaulted and strangled to death, according to the attorney general's office. Saunders is currently in prison at the Noble Correctional Institution, as he was found guilty of separate rape and kidnapping charges in 2003, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. His eligible parole date is currently listed as Oct. 1, 2026. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
